Weekly Preppers' Thread to post progress, good buys, DIY projects, advice and ideas ...
Family Grain Mill - hand operated. Pleasant Hill Grain may have that one and they likely have others. I haven’t been on that website for some time.
“If they succeed in procuring the 30,000 drones which can be equipped with infrared to spy on us, what can we do about it?”
My county already has a drone. Was among the first counties to get one. What is the sheriff doing with it? I don’t know.
This evening, I paid the plumber $107 to fix a potty leak upstairs. Does that count for a prep for this week?
I thought I was the only one that did this.
I would like a meat grinder. I watched imstillworkin on youtube make sausage and pork meatballs and then can them. It is time to stock up on pork products. I recommend her videos on stocking up and cooking/canning.
The local Walmart has been out of .22LR for two months. I asked the clerk and he said that their deliveries are hit and miss. I’m buying there to avoid the shipping charges and get more rounds.
Started semi-prepping before bubba was elected. But a fishing accident took a lot of it...
The faith farm/goodwill stores USED to have tons of cast iron cookware. Bought all I need for dirt cheap back then. Good thing about gas is, it’s still there after the power goes out, for coffee, hot water.....
Freecycle is an online barter service. I first joined when W was pres. Things were flying back and forth, could barely keep up with deleting posts in my inbox. After Øbama was elected it halved in traffic. Now it’s DOA.
Tobacco and cigarettes for barter,
Chocolate, candy and chewing gum for barter,
Rubbing alcohol and peroxide - short shelf life items,
Manual sewing machine and manual washing machine,
Two-way radio,
to name just a few.
What else is on your list? Pumping the septic for those bugging in is the big thing on my list that I'm not sure all preppers would think of. If you're going to stay home but using less water than usual, it would be nice to have a clean septic tank.
Another way to use bits and pieces of soap is to put them in the toe of a knee-high hose and knot the open end. Use as you would a normal bar of soap. Lots less trouble, but Iron Munro’s method is probably better.
I’ve been doing some reading on edibles too.
FWIW, I learned in past couple of days that crabgrass is edible and actually highly nutritious! Also known as Polish Millet - has been cultivated for eons.

I shared that with a person at one of our local stores today, and while we laughed at how ridiculous it might be to have to eat crabgrass since our society is working so hard to get rid of it, I nevertheless saw the wheels turn. Maybe that is one neighbor who won’t starve now if things get dire.
I also told her that maple seeds are edible as well. That made sense to her, because of the ability to get maple sap and turn it into syrup.
and, my husband had an errand this evening so I had him buy a couple of those Morning moos....stuff looks good, 25 yrs shelf life, and it sounds like its something that really adds flavor to baking and cooking...
meat grinder...we have a really good one that we bought one year ago from cabelas although we haven't used it yet....
but what I really want is a commercial grade juicer...the type where you can throw whole tomatoes in, and it separates the seeds and skins off and leaves a nice juice...
question for anyone.....the “Old Brooklyn Lanterns” they are advertising now on tv....are they any good...9 leds in a lantern, supposed to last 100,000 hrs using 2 D batteries...
I am up to number 115 cans of the Augason Farms one gallon size, bought a restaurant sized heavy duty can opener from Amazon last week, its made for those big cans, got a good price on it, it had some bad reviews of having too short of a blade but I had no problem.
Stocking up on iodized sea salt right now, my local Walmart in Alaska is slowly running low on the Augason stock, all the good stuff is gone just leaving mostly the items most people would pass up like the dehydrated berries, buttermilk powder, tomato powder.
I also recently bought a dehydrator, my kids love my pear quarters soaked in a mix of pineapple, mango, lemon juice for a bout 5 minutes before they get dried, drying is almost 12 hours, bought the restaurant sized peaches cans this time, and another 6 large cans of pear halves which I slice in half into quarters, just the right size because a pear is mostly water, kids go nuts drinking all the leftover peach and pear juice, I may try to figure out a way to long term store it, freezing?
Bought the newest Nitecore Explorer programmable LED flashight, uses a single rechargeable li-ion battery or 2 3 volt lithiums, 5 levels up to 320 lumens, strobe, SOS, Amazon for about $65. The li-ion kit has two batteries and the charger at around $13.
I may get more of the Morning Moos if they are that good, I was just going to get some of the cheaper brands of powdered milk in the box. I am a voracious milk drinker.
Where do you get your canning jars? I am having trouble finding them at Wal-Mart in my area.
Yard sales. I bought 24 today for $0.12 each.
“what I really want is a commercial grade juicer”
I’ve owned 2 commercial, restaurant grade Vitamix juicers, one overseas and one in the U.S. I prefer my Jack Lalanne juicer hands down. It has a life time warranty. I had mine a few years and had a problem with a part. I called them and they sent out a new one immediately at no cost. The Vitamix was a pain from start to finish. They spewed stuff all over the counter. It always resulted in a huge mess. Cleaning up and cleaning them was a real chore. The Jack Lalanne is so easy in comparison, and was 1/3rd the cost if not more. Just my 2 cents from experience and I have no vested interest.
Thanks for rotting, Bleb. /The Red Green Show>
Cheers!
