China's First Carrier Pointed At Japan Over Senkakus
True Conservatives On Twitter | September 30, 2012

Far East: Wars have started over less weighty issues than the sovereignty of islands in the East China Sea called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.

They are barely rocks above water, but they sit atop valuable resources and are rapidly becoming a flash point as a rising power confronts one whose sun has set.

These islands have become involved in a three-way tug of war between China, Taiwan and Japan with each sending fishing boats, even armed vessels, to the area. Private boats from Japan recently journeyed to the Senkakus to plant the Japanese flag one more time.

The Senkaku Islands are not only rich fishing areas. They also have significant oil deposits vital to a China scouring the world for energy for its growing economy.

Possession of these uninhabited rocks would be the basis for declaring an exclusive economic zone around the islands.

Alexander Haig:Let's face it. The Falkland islands are thousands of miles away, not many of your people there, of no social or economic importance...
Margaret Thatcher: Like Hawaii, you mean?

Yup. Wars are started over such things.

The invisible American attack sub under her hull can sink the Chicom tub anytime and make it look like an accident.

This ia an attempt at naked aggression on China's part. The Senkaku Islands have never been claimed or recognized as being under China's sovereignty until now, when the potential for seabed oil and natural gas emerged. The Chinese are simply threatening to steal the islands and the resources, plain and simple. No surprise there.

It will be several years before this ex-Russian tub is fit for service. More years, too, before the Chinese can learn to land a jet airplane on a floating deck at sea.

Wrong.

China now has the world’s premier industry.

Our is more biased towards the military at the moment, but China’s is growing and there are aspects of their weaponology which are hidden from us.

China is a very formidable competitor. Even now.

Do not discount China.

How long have they been “refurbishing” this ancient Russian hulk ?

China doesn’t have air cover which means they are “F”ed in any combat situation. They may have a floating Russian tub that resembles a carrier but it won’t be functional for air support for years, at best!

All this huff and puff BS is just that! They are trying to deflect the problems at home. China better watch their ass or it will be handed to them.

I agree with you. Perhaps it is terribly trite, but I am reminded of the "Star Wars" movie series. Time after time, people speak of Darth Vader. He's the evil one. Everyone is afraid of Darth Vader. And then Obi-Wan Kenobi says:

"Luke, do not underestimate the Emperor."

The wizened old guy sitting in the chair over there? Yup. He's the dangerous one. Watch your back.

The hour might be later than everyone thinks. Looks like the Chinese are giving flight ops at sea a shot.

We're obligated by treaty to come to Japan's defense in the face of a foreign attack.

Will Obama honor that treaty? The Chinese appear to be betting not.

Will be interesting to see if the Japanese have any Kamikaze left in them.... Hope the Chicoms have an effective Phalanx system.

Well Japan isn't Islamic so I suspect not.

I suspect the Chinese jets may be able to launch off the carrier but not be able to retrieve their aircraft. That would give the jets a very short operational cycle over any target as they would have to scamper back to the mainland to land. The jets would become vulnerable on the run home as they would be low on fuel and it would leaving the carrier open for attack from above AND BELOW!

Military power is based on economic power. Most economists think that China’s economy will pass the USA in the next 10 to 20 years.
.
Its going to be a very different world for our kids.

China’s economy was largely built by the USA.

Amazing how many Americans are still in denial or ignorance.

You can discount China.

What you can’t discount is the willingness of the left to subvert and destroy this country. That’s the real threat.

If those are touch and go marks, the Chicoms are a lot closer to operations than everybody is assuming

Probably associated with aircraft/ship compatibilty at this stage - and they are in the right position for a bolter, just ahead of #4 wire.

But still, if they have released a J-15 prototype for this, this is being treated as super priority.

I don't think that they were simply refurbishing the ex-Varyag so much as blue-printing it. I expect the first indigenous Chinese CV to look much the same. Perhaps it will be scaled-up a bit.

China probably has thousands of mobiles that can launch missiles to accurately hit any part of our country. The warnings about that were out from a congressman over ten years ago (only followed the bits and pieces of knowledge for a year or so, warning that 300 or so of those were scheduled to be built long ago).

We’ve had a do-nothing defense maintained by both political parties for decades.
