It is about time *we* learn to hate. Housecleaning is long overdue, or you’re looking down the barrel of the next holocaust. It’s not just the muslims, but all their friends as well.

That’s how the press works in totalitariian regimes. Obama started using police against unfriendly broadcasters already befor he was elected.

If you punch back, you better be prepared for the real war. The bloody one. Of course, the longer it’s postponed, the worse it’ll be.

In all fairness, most of the awareness of what happened in Europe only coalesced after the war. America was in the throes of the Great Depression, and European news was minimal, mostly from Britain, and limited to newspapers.

For their part, the Germans had tried in several ways to kick out the Jews, but other countries were not interested. Even at first, “concentration camps” was such a neutral term that the US used them during the Philippine Insurrection.

For their part, the Germans can claim early credit for “extermination camps”. The Germans used concentration camps in German South-West Africa during the Herero and Namaqua Genocide between 1904 and 1907. The camp at Shark Island, Namibia was of the nature of an extermination camp.

However, some of the WWII German camps were slave labor, not extermination camps. Still reprehensible, but many of those activities were not widely known in the US to long after the war.

Thank you so much for posting this. Joan Swirsky does not write often but when she does it is great, and this article is great. She has put a lot of work into writing this and we are grateful for her work. I beieve she is a psychotherapist, not a writer, but she writes like a pro. She often writes important points that need to be said that no one else writes or that no one else understands. So thank you again.

Am yisrael chai!

I remember eating breakfast with my twin brother Jonathan and my baby brother Zachary in his highchair in the mid-1940s in New Haven, while my father and mother — whose desperate-but-failed efforts to save European Jewry from Hitler's annihilation — read daily headlines to us that in retrospect were clearly intended not only to assuage the grief they would feel until their deaths at very old ages, but also to keep the vibrancy, exceptionalism, and the God-ordained survival of Jews and Judaism and Israel alive through their children.

How much of that could be laid at the feet of the Left, many of them Jewish, who, in support of the Hitler-Stalin Pact, from 1939 thru to when Hitler invaded Russia in 1941, tried their best to keep the US out of the war, and to stifle any anti-Hitler sentiment?

In all fairness, most of the awareness of what happened in Europe only coalesced after the war. America was in the throes of the Great Depression, and European news was minimal, mostly from Britain, and limited to newspapers.

Despite what the general American public might have known, Franklin D. Roosevelt and his administration, especially his State Department, knew early enough about the severity of Nazi war atrocities to potentially save the lives of many European Jews. But their record in this area was abysmal. There were numerous missed opportunities, some deliberate.

So the author of the posted piece is correct in naming Roosevelt as a malfeasor in what we now refer to as the Holocaust.

This sad history is recounted in a book titled "While 6 Million Died," written by Arthur D. Morse in the 1960s.

Yet these later revelations about Roosevelt et al did little to relieve too many American Jews from their addiction of voting for Democrats.

The more affluent American Jews were worried that all those Eastern Europeans coming over would be an embarrassment, and increase anti-Semitism. Indeed, there was a severe rash of incidents in 1938, even without any increase in immigration quotas.

Tragically, this same syndrome seems to afflict Roman Catholic Voters. My Mom grew up during the Depression, a Boston Irish Catholic. To this day she thinks FDR could do no wrong. When she says “FDR got us out of the Depression” I kindly remind her that it was WW2 that did it.

My Mom says that during the Depression, “Catholics voted Democrat and Protestants voted Republican”.

As if one’s religious affiliation dictated one’s politics.

You can mention that drafting about 10 million young men into the military is an effective way of reducing the unemployment rate. (Admittedly a bit cynical, but nonetheless the truth.)

Irish Catholics were the strongest ethnic group in the Democratic Party outside the South from long before the time of Franklin D. Roosevelt, especially in the big cities, most typically in Boston. They were prominent as local Democrat machine bosses. When Roosevelt came to power and greatly expanded the size of the federal government, these local bosses were thrilled to have more government goodies to hand out to increase their clout.
