Credit Card Changed and I'm a Monthly Donor - How to fix? [Vanity]
10/01/2012 | Self

Mystery charges on my Credit Card caused me to issue a fraud notice and I now have a new account number. FR has my old number for my monthly charges. I want to continue my donations, so what to do?

TOPICS: Business/Economy
KEYWORDS: donor; fr; freerepublic; monthly; monthlydonor
I'm sure I am not the only one this has happened to, after all if we all were honest, LifeLock wouldn't be in business! So this is not just for myself but for others in the future.

And before you wisenheimers ask, no I won't! So just don't!

Cancel your donation from your defunct card and start from scratch. Freepmail Jim if you need instructions.

I got an email from irs@yahoo.com asking for my ssn and all financial account numbers and passwords immediately or all of my assets would be seized. I was amused, but I did forward it to the IRS at their other email address - the .gov one, not their yahoo address.

It might be easiest to cancel and set the new one up on PayPal. As long as you strictly control where you use it, PayPal has been pretty secure.

I thought I remembered someone else posting that comment... You posted that same comment one year ago.... Wed Oct 05 2011 10:14:25 GMT.... IRS fishing has been a long standing problem.

At a meeting with senior managers of a district IRS office last year, one manager mentioned that he welcomed our help, “as occasionally one of our agents wanders off the farm and we need your help to round them up!” Had to laugh at his description!

You have to set up a new monthy contribution with the new number. It’s kind to mention in the comment field that they should replace the previous charge, or freepmail JimRob to say it.

I remembered the event bu not that I had posted it. I don’t mind repeating myself, not when someone (probably DU/Kos types) must fall for it or they would not keep trying that scam.

My bank has free "bill pay" which has been 100% secure for me. The payment is deducted from you savings/checking account, the bank prints the check and mails it for you w/ no additional charge. You can also set up ACL direct transfers for things like cable bills and mortgage payments that repeat a fixed amount at regular intervals. If you have direct deposit your life just keeps on rolling even if you drop dead.

LOL... I do it all the time! One of the greatest things about getting older is that now I can watch movies twice. For most of my life I couldn’t watch a movie twice as it would be so boring.
