As a Catholic who works in the trade association profession in the auto industry it was unsettling to hear President Obama claim that he saved the auto industry. President Obama closed over 2,200 auto dealerships, which caused the losses of decades old family-owned businesses and over 120,000 jobs they provided. The closures were allowed to happen under the false notion that auto dealerships were an expense on their auto maker. The President ignored the fact that auto dealers are not an expense to automakers. Auto makers own none of what you see at auto dealerships. Auto dealers own all their property; the cars and trucks, parts, buildings, land, signs, everything. The dealerships pay their employee’s salaries and millions of dollars in taxes to state and local governments. The manufacturer has nothing to do with any of these things.
The President’s actions against auto dealers violated the Catholic social teaching principles of social justice and the common good by removing owners rights to their property and defrauding workers of their wages. His actions (he calls it “shared sacrifice”) were an example of collectivism, centralized planning and socialism. All of these ideas are rejected by America and all are rejected by Catholic teaching in regard to the commandment, “thou shall not steal.”
Many people have forgotten what damage President Obama did to the auto industry and the auto dealer and their employees. Please remind them.
And yet 75% of Catholics are still going to vote for Obama. And 75% of Jewish voters.
The chair will not get the majority vote of Catholics as he did in ‘08. As for the Jewish vote, he will likely get around 65% of the vote, down by 10% of the ‘08 levels.
Yeah, but since the vast majority of those dealerships were owned by Republicans, no one cares.
he saved the UAW.
Funny how Ford, Honda, Toyota etc. never needed the kenyans help. Doubling Down on shitty management is no way to go through life boy.
New poll: Obama opens up lead over Romney among Catholics
Oct. 1, 2012
Obama leads opponent Mitt Romney among Catholic voters by 54% to 39%, according to the survey, conducted from September 12 to 16 by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.
Obama’s lead in the Pew survey comes despite outspoken recent criticism of the Obama administration from America’s Catholic bishops and despite Mitt Romney’s selection of a Catholic running mate, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.
In 2008, Obama beat John McCain among Catholics by 54% to 45%. In 2004, John Kerry — the first Catholic nominee for president since John F. Kennedy — lost the Catholic vote to George W. Bush, provoking Democrats to take Catholic outreach more seriously.
Didn't I also read he owns a big chunk of GMC financial?
Fixed it. The dealerships may also have been family owned, but (almost without exception) they were dealerships that had supported Republican candidates. Dealerships that had supported Democrats were allowed to remain in business.
Furthermore, he negated all debt owed by the auto manufacturers to their suppliers, thus causing major unemployment, bankruptcy, and loss of market share.
Who gave him an ultmatum : Now close the non-union Saturn plant in Smyrna TN. (simply saving the UAW was not enough)
Spring Hill.......Nissan owns Smyrna and proudly so.
Strong dollar, NASA space program, health care, auto, Christian values, free speech ,gun rights, state rights, individualism...
Where is the HECK are the class-action suits against this empty suit?
But, weren't several of the dealerships that were closed by the Emperor guilty of the heinous crime of being run by Republicans which had contributed significant funds to the Mccain-Palin 2008 Presidential campaign?
Another factoid Mitt has to be armed with when Obama says, “I saved the auto industry”.
Don’t forget to add in the value of the thousands of perfectly good cars deliberaterly destroyed. Why, they could have gone to maybe 20% of the 47%.....:-)
Geithner took away pensions of 20,000 Delco workers
They were not UAW thugs.
