Last Thursday evening it was not surprising to hear Jeff Kuhner of the Washington Times filling for Dr. Michael Savage on his popular, nationally syndicated radio show, The Savage Nation, because Jeff regularly fills in for Dr. Savage, and he does an excellent job. But, I noticed something odd; Jeff did not mention Dr. Savage (which has never happened), and there was different bumper music playing than is normally heard on the program. It was not until the next day that I learned Dr. Savage had won the almost-two-year legal battle with his syndicator, Talk Radio Network (TRN), and had taken complete ownership of his show.
This is a bittersweet, good-news-bad-news deal. It is sweet for Dr. Savage, who was miserable with the terms of his syndication and wanted free of his tethers to TRN, but it is bitter for the millions of devoted listeners in the Savage Nation who woke up to the sudden loss of our favorite voice of political reason and sanity on terrestrial radio.
Although I am happy for Dr. Savage, this came at an awful time for the country, just before the upcoming, critical election. His voice on the radio was a powerful antidote to the constant stream of lies the weaselly, leftist media and the commie Obama administration spit out every day, and his absence from the radio airwaves will be sorely missed by millions of us.
Dr. Savage has been repeating, and building on, his warnings about this criminal administration since before Barack Obama (or whatever his name is) was installed in the United Statespresidency. Since then, he has written two books about this lawless administration, one of which I reviewed in my column, “Savage’s Trickle Up Poverty is Essential Reading.”
His second book, released earlier this year, Trickle Down Tyranny: Crushing Obama's Dream of the Socialist States of America, is perhaps an even more essential read, because of the extent of damage done to the United States by the Obama administration and the deadly danger for the U.S. should he be reinstalled for a second, terrible term.
Due to an unusually busy work summer, I have not made the time to review it here in my column, but I highly recommend that you get a copy and study it carefully. It is a well-written, heavily-researched, sourced and footnoted book on the criminal actions of this administration, and is packed with Dr. Savage’s keen insight. Chapter by chapter, Dr. Savage lays out the tyrannical actions of this anti-American administration.

We still begin this new week and new month of October without our daily Savage “fix.” He is not on the radio, and there is no word on when he might be back. WorldNetDaily (WND) reported that right after the legal case was won, Dr. Savage began talks with top names in the radio syndication business. Dr. Savage said he will not be heard on the radio “for some time,” but that he will continue to update his website and publish his daily e-mail newsletter, which is free; just sign up for it on his site.
WND also reported that Dr. Savage will be doing occasional online broadcasts via UStream, which he began on Sunday. You can follow the UStream website for The Savage Nation (linked above) and watch Dr. Savage’s site to know when he will be streaming his broadcasts.
In the same column, WND reported that according to TalkStreamLive.com, shortly after Dr. Savage’s court victory, his radio show received the number-one ranking, in the third quarter, of talk shows streamed on the Internet, beating out Rush Limbaugh for the first time.
It may be that we will ultimately end up having to listen to Dr. Savage online instead of on the radio, because if, or when, Dr. Savage signs with another syndicator, he may not be on in all the markets that previously carried him. Now that he is off the radio, his 300-plus affiliates will be turning to other programming to fill Dr. Savage’s time slot, and it may be that not all of them will bring him back, even if he signs with another syndicator. That’s too bad, because no one can ever replace Dr. Savage.
Now we wait and hope that he is back on our radios soon. Until then—although I will certainly catch his online broadcasts when I can—I will miss Blue Mondays and Rock and Roll Fridays. I will miss Dr. Savage, Lifestyle Coach, and Teddy occasionally barking in the background. I will miss his “sheeple” imitation. I will miss his hilarious, off-the-cuff remarks that make me bust out laughing. He is such a clever, funny guy—a true “natural.” Of course, I will also miss his scathing, sometimes roaring, words against the worms in our government and society.
I will miss getting off work from my job at the radio station just as his show begins, turning up my car radio and hearing his signature sign-on song, Metallica’s “Master of Puppets,” and the announcer saying, “Warning: The Michael Savage Show contains adult language, adult content, psychological nudity. Listener discretion is advised,” followed by the guns and bombs sound effects, and finally, Dr. Savage himself, “It IS the Savage Nation…”
I know I am not the only one who is sad in the Savage Nation today. Millions of us hope he is back on our lonely radios very soon.

No problem, our local station replaced him with the Great One. Unfortunately, they replaced Beck with Geraldo.
I stumbled across Savage shortly after 9/11 and was very happy to have found him. I was dedicated to listening for a couple of years but eventually moved on. He could be great, but he could also get derailed into some pretty esoteric subjects.

I am well aware of Savage’s hostility toward fellow talkers. It makes me cringe.
We all have weaknesses, and we all behave badly at times. I wish he were not so mean in that way, but his meanness does not excuse others who want to broadcast their hatred for him.
This is a column directed at the listeners who like him despite his flaws, and when I wrote it, I knew it would bring out those who despise him, who can’t resist inserting their hatred in the comments, which does no one any good, and that’s too bad, as always.
Savage is the one who can not resist inserting his bizarre fixation on other radio hosts into his show. His “meanness” does excuse others from expressing their dislike. You seem to want to excuse his bad behavior while bashing others for what you perceive to be the same behavior.

And ours replaced Gallagher with Whore Aldo. I have no idea what Gallagher’s local ratings were, but I can’t believe that Whore Aldo will have more than 5 or 6 listeners.
I found Gallagher to be tiresome and pretty much a waste. With that outrage / whiney thing going on and just the timbre of his voice, it was nails on a chalkboard.

This column is for Savage listeners who are wondering where he is and are feeling bummed out like I am. That’s why I wrote it.

If you really want to keep out dissenting opinions, perhaps you should consider restricting yourself to your blog where you have full control over reader comments, rather than posting here on an open forum.
None of what I said is “bashing.” Telling the truth is not “bashing.” If I wanted to “bash,” there are some truly rude, insulting things I could say.
It DOES seem that Savage haters (an apt, truthful description) can’t resist posting their hatred of him on columns that have nothing to do with their hatred, and where their hateful input adds nothing useful to the conversation. There is nothing but truth in that statement.

I beg to differ. Implying that my “hatred” is so intense that it controls my rational thought processes IS bashing, in my opinion. If you were right about that, you would find my hateful comments on EVERY Savage thread. You’re welcome to go looking, but I doubt you will find very much.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree on that point.
I am sorry though, I must have missed the paragraph in the Free Republic Terms of Service where it says that one must add something useful to a conversation as defined by the person who initiated the thread. I wasn’t aware that was the case.

IIRC that was contributed to Savage by Jack Swanson, Melanie Morgan's husband and a former executive at KSFO, Savage's home station for years early in his career.
Personally I don't hate savage and in fact enjoyed listening to him until his ego and envy got the better of him and he started bashing the other conservative talk show hosts in order to get a response out of them and get his name mentioned on their programs.
To their credit, they just ignored him and I suspect that deepend Savage's hatred of them.
He became nothing but a loud mouth, self obsorbed hack who made the mistake of thinking that the more outrageous he became, the more popular he might become..........EPIC FAIL!
In fact, he has done a disservice to the conservative movement and became a posterboy for the liberals who point to him as being the norm when they criticize talk radio........
To be fair to Joe Pyne there was a lot of that good ol' overwhelming nastiness in Pyne -- "Go gargle with razor blades!".. but I have never heard Savage or Levin speak of Pyne.
After the environment of the 1960s, 70s and 80s conservative needed to start fighting back.. and Savage said that that is exactly what he was doing. Now others have caught on. Excellent!

This guy was briefly on the air in the Philadelphia area a few years back. I do remember stumbling across his show a few times and was not impressed. Anyway, if what I read here about him trashing Sara Palin is accurate, then good bye to the scumbag. Irrational hatred for Palin is always a clear tipoff that somebody is, deep down, a scumbag Democrat.

It started -- and ended -- the day she was announced as the VP candidate. He started down the alley of trailer park jokes issuing some pretty nasty comments about her and her family.
It ended immediately -- or perhaps by the next day -- as a great clamor arose over the Nation. We listeners let be known that we have zero tolerance for that nonsense.
He criticizes her but without the defamation -- and like Imus who absolutely hates her -- always interjects "she's a good woman but she's just not qualified." Imus is a bit more blunt: "she's a good woman but she's dumb and she's a dope." Imus has conservative women friends in the media but he seems to hate conservative women in politics.. he despises Michele Bachmann. (Yes I know that's his shtick but when he's serious he lets the listeners know.)
At the risk of using language that borders on hypocrisy, I’ll try to use a little culture.
I must admit I too have found Savage’s bashing of colleagues distasteful at times. Since he is so smart in other areas, I wish he’d find alternate ways to say the same thing. It used to bother me a lot, then I thought about something he frequents — buffets! (He likes Indian, I prefer Chinese and salad bars.)
Rather than letting it bother me, I decided to treat Savage’s show as a smorgasbord. He does present many ideas worth considering. When he does get into those tirades, that’s like a dish that’s offered that I’ll just ignore.
I do credit Savage with teaching me how to fish, or better stated how to cook fish. For years I always burned fish fillets and couldn’t get them to taste good. Savage had a segment where he said he had the same problem until he learned to cook it on one side, flip it, and THEN add the spices on top.
So that’s what I kept tuning in. I many times didn’t know what to expect since it wasn’t all politics all the time. It was really welcome at his particular time slot, as the day drew to a close and I wondered if I could make anything of the remaining evening, or just opt for sleep as he said he often does. Or make meatballs.
I think he’s going to miss terrestrial radio. We do have all these devices that you can connect with, yet AM and FM radios are many times easier to simply turn on. I don’t think it’s the same level of intimacy like when you’re working in the garage or out running errands and have the radio running in the background. Moreover, streams generally don’t play local ads; I do like knowing which advertisers support the programs I like.
I many times felt I was all alone in my thoughts of what’s happening lately, esp. in this country until Savage echoed or further refined in his unique style what I was thinking. I’m still somewhat lost, it’s strange not hearing his voice at 3:06PM Pacific.
Oh, well, like Savage says, “That’s all.”
