Election 2012: Indifference of the administration and the Defense Department will cause a record low military vote this year, particularly in swing states. Those who protect our right to vote deserve better.
A new report by the Military Voter Protection Project found that absentee ballot requests by the military have dropped significantly since 2008 and are on track to make 2012 a record low for the military vote. As of Sept. 22, requests were down 46% in Florida, 70% in Virginia and 70% in Ohio.
"These are (the) lowest numbers we've seen in the last decade," Eric Eversole, founder and executive director of the project, told U.S. News & World Report's Washington Whispers. "There are a number of factors that go into this, but if the Pentagon was doing what it was supposed to be, this would be a nonissue."
The Pentagon is not doing its job, and the Obama administration doesn't seem to care.
Under the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (MOVE), which was signed into law in 2009 by President Obama, the Federal Voter Assistance Program (FVAP) is supposed to assist service members with voting on military installations.
A Defense Department Inspector General report released in August found that FVAP hadn't set up those voter assistance offices, using budget cuts as an excuse.
May we not-so-cynically suggest that the Obama administration is in no hurry to deal with the issue. While often using our troops as backdrops for photo ops, making sure their vote, unlike that of other groups, isn't suppressed is not a top priority.

I would be very depressed to learn that Conservative soldiers were not voting because the Federal Voter Assistance Program is not “helping” them sign up.
The whole point of being a Conservative is self-reliance, even (especially) in the face of challenging circumstances.
Actually skip the lith. and get your champagne chilled for Election Evening, nobama is done.
