In his first response to the comments by the head of MSNBC, that the "one FOX on-air personality they would like to have is Sheppard Smith," Roger Ailes, the head of FOX News said tonight that MSNBC was welcome to Smith, but they would also have to agree to take Juan Williams as part of the deal.
One FOX on-air personality said, not for attribution, that "Basically, Williams is dumb as a rock. He drags down the level of discussion on the panel, and Brit Hume has a perpetual pain in his neck from glaring in astonishment at all the insipid, inane things Williams says."
"Geez" said another. "We can get Alan Colmes to do the same crap for 1/20 the price. And at least this way we keep in in the family." ( For those who aren't aware, Colmes is married to Monica Crowley's sister.)
Ailes is known to have regretted signing Williams to the big deal, especially since NPR senior management gloats about it all the time at industry gatherings. He'd just love to be able to move Juan's contract, but as yet has found no takers.
Would Ailes be willing to pick up some of the cost of William's contract to make the deal? When asked, he smiled, and said, "it's open. Anything and everything is always on the table in negotiations. But they'd have to give me something back in return. Maybe S.E. Cupp. She shows a lot of potential. Could be a major leaguer in the near future."

Ideology aside, Colmes is a pretty good guy. He helped out John Derbyshire after the guy was booted from National Review. Ideology is one thing, but friends are people who'll help you out in times of trouble with more than just words.

I was a dedicated Fox watcher until 2001. Then they hired scumbag Geraldo. That day I turned off the TV and have literally never turned it back on since then. I don't miss it a bit.
Not so professional behavior on Ailes part. Rather unbelievable, actually. He knew who Juan Williams was, and he is paid to be exactly that— a liberal, of a Republican son in addition.
Juan is mild mannered and to be taken seriously Brit Hume has to show him some irritability. Combs is a Marxist. Juan is not.
How else does Ailles justify “fair and balanced”?

I like Juan, and do NOT take him seriously. He is a good little role player, means no real harm, and plays straight guy to the blonde starlets and the big FOX names so they can look like rolled brilliance.
He is indebted to his friends at FOX, has expressed his gratitude and he is privately very close to Sean and O’Reilly.
It is somewhat entertaining watching Juan getting bitch-slapped over and over again in roundtable discussions. I say toss in Geraldo and 3/5’s of The Five.

I thought with NPR he would have had his road to Damascus moment but, he didn’t. If nothing else his contract has given him free reign to act stupidly. He brings nothing to the table, really, nothing.
As much as I disagree with Beckel at least I know he has a very human side. He was one of the few on the left to publicly defend Rush Limbaugh during his drug addiction revelations. Beckel, a recovering alcoholic, said it is one human condition that does not discriminate by political leaning, education, background etc. and he was right. Because of that brave defense I cut the guy a lot of slack, more than he deserves often times.
I would love to see Shep off of Fox. I have always and I mean always thought he was nothing but a puff piece pretty boy anchor and couldn’t understand his appeal. I found him haughty, condescending and insufferably smug. That was an opinion I had of him from the first time I saw him when he may have been reporting on something as inane as a dog rescued from a storm sewer too.

Juan can stay. Beckel is a liberal racist who makes me turn the channel when he is on. His comments go beyond just stating the liberal viewpoint into real racism. Sometimes the others call him on it, sometimes they don’t catch it, but whatever, the guy needs to go.
I really miss S.E. Cupp on Red Eye. I wondered what had happened to her, she used to be something of a regular. I didn't realize she had gone over to the "dark side." I'd forgive her in a second.

Was he Santorum's personal friend? If Santorum used a miscarriage for political purposes, I can't blame Colmes for mocking the guy. I am a Santorum supporter, but there are just so many facets of the guy's personality that are simply contemptible, and I'd like to thank you for highlighting yet another one. I still think he was the least of all evils in the GOP field at the end, but Romney is personally a better man, ideology aside.

Besides being an out-of-control egomaniac who just likes the sound of his own voice (he asks insufferably long questions, gives his guests mere seconds to respond, then interrupts them almost immediately!), O’Reilly’s show is really about little else than Bill O’Reilly and what he thinks.
He tells people what he thinks then (Talking Points) then spends the rest of the hour asking people what they thought of what he said. It’s all about Bill 24/7/365 and I can’t stand his schtick.

while nothing would make me happier, that is a bit harsh on the feelings of Juan Williams....who I would not miss for a second, but even some liberals have feelings
