Actually deer do loiter. Some years ago while going to work early in the morning, I came across a herd of about twenty deer standing in the middle of the highway staring at the face of hill. Apparently the deer couldn't figure out how to leap over a one hundred foot high rock face. I tried to wend my way carefully through the herd, but one managed to run into my car anyway. At one time I managed to hit or be hit by four deer in the space of five years. That's life when you live in deer country.
