Yesterday’s sandwich board campaign update: Democrats are getting very nervous

Yesterday I continued my sandwich board campaign at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in my hometown. I have been there, mostly with another retired cop and fellow Marine, on Mondays and Fridays, for the past 6 weeks, wearing a sandwich board with various messages.

Over the weeks I have been surprised to draw thumbs up smiles and “thank you” from Black females. Black females have often stopped and patiently read every word on our boards.

They read statistics on unemployment, the January 2009 price of gas compared to today’s and the “Are you better off now” question among many other messages.

Until now I have seen White liberals grimace and Blacks and Hispanics (men and women) as well as White women sometime shake their heads and drop their eyes. But I have had a Black lady come up to me, read my messages and say, “I prayed for guidance and you are my answer.”

After the first presidential debate and again after the Vice Presidential debate the pursed lips and grunts of “Obama” from worried Democrats increased. Friday those grunts got louder and more frequent.

A Black man with a West Indian accent stood in front of me screaming, “Romney is a liar!” over and over again. All he accomplished was to help us draw a bigger crowd. Yesterday the anger and desperation on the Left was full blown.

My sign said “Obama’s response to Libya has been sloppy sluggish and incoherent.” David Gregory NBC News October 19, 2012. This sent the White male liberals over the edge……

“….they were yelling a Black female moved two feet from my face and started chanting “Obama” “Obama 2012” and a crowd gathered around. … since ..our first day we have displayed our messages to about 20,000 people....

“Democrats are getting very nervous”

And, that’s when they revert to type. Loud and ugly!

There is that and also Romney is going to IA. IA! Coupled with his obvious momentum I take this as a sign of the campaigns strength, not desperation. Obama should have IA so far in the bag to make it unapproachable.

Yesterday I saw an elderly woman standing with quiet dignity on a busy street corner, displaying a Romney sign to all who drove by.

This time of year, it’s common to see people standing on corners holding political signs, but it’s almost always people campaigning for local candidates, and they are usually family or friends of the candidate. Less commonly, there will be a group organized by a political party holding signs for many of the party’s candidates (and usually the party itself). These folks will be decked out in party colors and swag - matching shirts, hats, buttons, etc.

But what I saw yesterday looked to be a spontaneous demonstration by one older woman. That’s very unusual for around here.

You are a brave American to withstand all that liberal abuse. The sandwich board campaign is a great idea!

Northwest Florida.

This is a strongly conservative area, so it’s no surprise to see a Romney supporter. What IS surprising is that it was a lone elderly woman. It’s rare to see an older woman making a SOLO political demonstration around here.

Our cities are filled with low-information voters.

Shrill, conformist morons.

In other words, pretty much as Thomas Jefferson predicted.

Please educate me: I’m not too familiar with Iowa people.

My stereotype of them is that their fundamental mental framework derives from farming, small town and church-going values. This makes it seem to me that they should have conservative values and a great deal of common sense.

This is at odds with voting for Obama.

My stereotype and related assumptions must be completely wrong. Can anyone set me straight, please. TIA.

Friday those grunts of Obama got louder and more frequent.

They need more fiber.

When the Left gets nervous they become totally unhinged.

This makes them both entertaining and dangerous. Be safe out there!

Like any state there is a range, but I would say it is fairly centrist outside of Ames which to the left, being a college town. For a midwest state they are to the right of WI, IL, and MN, but centrist compared to southern states. They went Obama last time and polls had it as solid Obama & wasn’t considered a swing state until recently. So Romney feeling it’s worth the effort to go there is big news in a good way.
