Could Next Week’s Election Be Delayed By Sandy?

Posted on October 30, 2012 at 9:58am by Mike Opelka

--- According to FEMA’s chief Craig Fugate, the delay in restoring power might play a role in the upcoming election. From his comments to the press last night:

“We are anticipating that, based on the storm, there could be impacts that would linger into next week and have impacts on the federal election.”

NC governor recommends suspending democracy to focus on jobs

As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, N.C., according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

If the government can’t come up with enough generators to run an election then we definitely need new government.

Sounds like a recipe for vote fraud.

A few years back an urban group spontaneously asked a St Louis judge to keep the polls open in da Hood until 10 because it was allegedly very busy. Miraculously that district delivered big for the D candidate.

This election should not be delayed for anything.

Absolutely not. There is no Constitutional reason for delaying the election, and Obummer better not trying doing it by an executive decree.

As Mark Steyn has said - a future dictator of the United States will never need to declare martial law. He will only need to declare a weather emergency to keep everyone indoors, and Americans wouldn’t venture out until they are told its all clear.

I am in Upstate NY - and for a week, all we heard about was how bad the storm would be for us, even though we aren’t close to the ocean.

All we had was a some moderately heavy rain for a few hours, that’s all - and yet the hype convinced everyone to close the schools, cancel all events, and scare everyone into buying up supplies.

You know this is coming.

I can see it now:

Voters denied their right to vote due to flooded streets and polling places. Polls will remain open for one week to ensure a “fair” election.

Obama won’t delay the election but you can be certain that
the Democrats will just delay the count in those hurricane affected areas.

And any guess on what the final counts for Democrats will be?

This is over-hyped the the max. I’ve seen worse disasters at LegoLand. Do we really need Christie running around singing Obama’s praises, or the Shepster covering this until its dead? It was a bad thunderstorm, people need to get over it, because the MSM is just using this fake disaster to cover up Benghazi.

No, no, no, and no. It won't happen. They didn't end when the "Germans" bombed Pearl Harbor.

We had elections in:

1812 - during the war.
1856-1868 - Bleeding Kansas, the Civil War/War Between The States/War of Northern Aggression, reconstruction.
1932-1936 - Depression
1944 - World War II
1968 - 60's unrest, RFK, Nam
1972 - Nam
1980 - Iran
2004 - Iraq
2008 - Financial disaster

What's a natural disaster compared to these where a change in power dramatically affects matters.

That was the 2006 election that gave Missouri Claire McCaskill instead of the rightful winner, Jim Talent. I remember the press conference Kit Bond had, he was absolutely furious, but like every other case of voter fraud, nothing happened and we’ve been stuck with that witch for 6 years.

Democrat Governor Bev Perdue of NC Wasn't Joking: She Wants to Cancel the 2012 Congressional Elections September 28, 2011 Listen to it Button

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: So the governor of North Carolina is just joking about canceling the 2012 congressional elections. She was just joking, she was just having some fun out there. That's the spin of the local media in Raleigh, North Carolina. It's also the spin of the Drive-Bys, State-Controlled Media, but it's not true. We have the audio of Bev Perdue suggesting the elections be canceled and she's not joking, as you will hear, and it's quite interesting.

And this is what Sandy will do to the elections this year. There will be endless requests to keep the polls open in inner city precincts—especially in PA. The election will take place next Tuesday.

MSNBC Entertains Possibility Of Delaying Elections Due To Hurricane Destruction

ANDREA MITCHELL: We’ve seen in the past situations where power is not restored, in our own region here, for days, for more than a week — for ten days. What happens if we get to election day and they don’t have power? Which you need for many of these election booths, for the voting booths, which you need for people to get to the polls. Is there any precedent for doing something such as postponing a national election?

CHUCK TODD: Well, look, elections are run by state and local officials. The federal government does not run the elections as it is. Look, there is some precedence to this. During 9/11, on 9/11, was the New York City mayoral race and they delayed everything. You know, it would have to be up to a local authority to do that but that local authority — I think, look, you’re going to be getting into provisional ballot issues.

I think — I think that that’s the more likely scenario. You don’t postpone the day itself, but maybe you expand the types of ballots, maybe you’re more lenient on checking people in, but forcing provisional votes so it’s going to take longer to verify the voters and all of those things. I think that that’s the most likely scenario that you would have some localities that would have to move, change positions, maybe even delay, but that would seem the least likely option. But to come up with some way to deal with what you just said now, if you have an election voting machine and no power, do you deal with that?

The high waters have prevented some democratic voters from getting from the graveyards to the polling stations. An additional week will enable poll workers (aka black panthers) to escort the dead to the appropriate voting location.

Clearly there is, because people are biting their nails expecting Obama to postpone the election. It’s not going to happen. It’s just another Eeyore delusion. The election will go ahead a week from now, and no hurricane, tornado, cyclone, or alien invasion is going to save Barry from defeat.

A particular state might be able to delay its election by a few days, but they still must report their Electors to Congress on the same day in December.

It's unlikely that any states that might swing the election will defer their elections due to the emergency.
