I would give the kid and his folks some advice. Farmers have machinery to do just about every kind of work that used to be manual. On top of that....there are these illegal guys from Mexico and south of the border who will readily pick apples, oranges and never utter a complaint. The best you might say is that you end up working at McDonalds like the other 400k low-income guys who never advanced much in life. If the Republicans can’t dismantle the healthcare law, then every single worker at McDonalds can expect their full-time job to turn into a part-time job (28 hours). People might want to start putting their lives into some state of reality.

Nobody picks them. Huge machines plant and harvest all the corn, soy, etc. They also block the roads at times, I can live with that.

I did too and I don’t have fond memories of it! 105 degrees, 85% humidity, picking green beans for a penny a pound. Made $5.00 one day!
Three weeks later it was dry, the beans were light and we got a penny a pound. Picked the same amount of beans and got $2.80 a day.
No sir! No fond memories! My brother passed out in the field one day it was so hot!
Me too. I did all of the farm chores and while not loving all of it, I am so aware of how it helped me to become a productive adult.
I am not even going to try and guess the ethnicity of this kid they quote. But if he meant he'd be going back to work, somebody must have put the fear of God in him. Crop Fields have these things called MACHINES. Kid has probably never even been near a field. Or work.
My mother picked and sorted peaches in California’s Central Valley before someone determined that those were “jobs that Americans just won’t do” and decided to import tens of millions of illegals from Mexico and Central America.
Mother needed the money to put herself through college, there was no aid in those days for DIRT poor kids. She said the temperatures often reached 105 and higher.
Dad worked in truck gardens in the mid-west, but he came off of a farm so he was used to picking and sorting crops.
