More Going Galt
11/7/2012 | Texianne1

I am not going to put any money into the economy other than the bare essentials. I won't see any movies or other forms of entertainment. I won't buy any newpapers or magazines. I won't get on the tollway, but ride the service roads. I am not going to eat out.

What more can I do, here in Texas, to help strangle the money pipeline to the Feds?

Hawaii is an addiction. If I won the lottery I’d move there. I won’t go back for a few years but I do love going there.

Amen to number 12. Nobody who takes government money will get a penny of charitable giving from me. I think I will stick to the Salvation Army. Big government seems to hate them the most.

I told my husband this morning that God help anyone calling me for a donation to any charity. My response will be” go ask Obama’.

Oh well. You could always say to hell with it, quit your job and go on unemployment, eat as much government cheese as you can before the welfare state collapses under its own weight, then sit back and watch the fun. Interesting times ahead.

“We patriotic Texans have to also recognize that 40+% in Texas voted against America yesterday, most of them are just liking the candy handouts, but some will work against any patroitic stand Texas takes”
________________________________________________________________________________

This is a very very important point that I tried to also make
in a post last night. Even without an amnesty in Obama’s 2nd
term, the current resident illegals in Texas will prolly be
made voters somehow in the next 20 years. By then Texas, as
a reliably red state will be lost. The demographics will
have overwhelmed Texas like fire ants on a toad. We will
never again be able to elect a Caucasian to Governor or
other high state office. The ONLY elected offices we will
still have is in “pockets” of wealthy suburbs. Its a slow
“death by inches” descent into a California style hell for
us now.

Only an independent and sovereign Texas, that could enact
its own immigration laws, could stop this demographic
defeat. And even then it might only be a delaying tactic.
The current resident illegals would HAVE to be removed BY
FORCE and it would HAVE to start very soon. Rick Perry is NOT the man to do any of this. He is in the pocket of very
wealthy interests who profit greatly from cheap illegal
labor.

On its current path I see NO hope for Texas.

Lots and lots of great tips already in this thread, most of which I’ve implemented by dint of necessity rather than choice.

I’ll echo the suggestions of stocking up on ammo now - what you have at this moment may, like it ot not, become by default your lifetime supply.

Because of the additional burning of gas and wear & tear on the vehicle, I have misgivings about your giving up the toll road. Buy you know best how that balances out. Consider carpooling a couple times a week w/ coworkers on a similar schedule?

Donations to Salvation Army, and don’t forget to request a receipt to document the tax deduction. Search the dusty recesses & donate everything you haven’t handled or seen in over a year. Someone has mentioned Craigslist, local ads & secondhand stores. Is Freecycle still going? Put out feelers in the local community for barter & trade possibilities. Books & even movies on loan from the library.

I had to cut monthly services myself. I was stunned how much I spent for the additionally billed security light out back. And as for garbage pickup services, I now carry trash to dispose of at work probably twice a week. No cable/TV bill, no monthly cellphone bill - my cell is a disposable on a 1-year/$100 card.

If you and your family can restrain yourselves from gift buying & giving I assure you that your holidays will be so much better. (Well, maybe fudge on that a bit when it comes to small kids.) Potluck or all gather at the cook’s home, however you prefer, and truly enjoy each others’ company. Understand that no mere bauble (or the stress of trying to attain it) is more valuable than time relaxing with loved ones. Time is fleeting. *Life* is fleeting.

These days for sure, I value my time more highly than my employer does ;o) so I’m a real miser with timewasters, too. Errands only to and from work. If a store isn’t open at my convenience, it doesn’t get my money. A few moments online at work to eyeball the weekly grocery specials - saving money while making money - coolness!

"There’s probably a dozen more ways to disconnect from the beast, but those are the first that come to mind."

One of the best ways I've found to "starve the Beast" is to "legally" lower the amount the Gub'ment withholds from your paycheck. Just take the maximum allowable deductions. Yes, it may mean you have to "pay" come tax time BUT if just 10% of the people who receive paychecks would do this it would put a severe crimp on the Washington "looter's" cash flow! Just stash the extra cash somewhere and come tax time if you need it to pay Uncle Obama well then you have it.

Once you’ve been to Kauai, nothing else satisfies.
