Proposed Concepts for the Constitution of the New Republic of Texas (Reconsidering Secession)
Texas: A Whole Other Country ^ | July 22, 2009 | Off Grid Blogger

The United States federal government has usurped its power under its Constitution. It has become oppressive and unresponsive to the people of America. Under both major political parties, it has lost control of its fiscal responsibilities which will irreparably harm us and our posterity. It is time that Texans free ourselves from such oppression and peacefully secede. But before doing so, we should have direction for a new Republic. This document is an outline for concepts to be incorporated in the new Constitution for the independent Republic of Texas.

The result of the election is highly predictable. There will follow a catastrophic downward spiral of the economy resulting from these forces:

(1) businesses and investors of all stripes pulling back due to increased uncertainty and regulation,

(2) ObamaCare forcing layoffs especially in small business,

(3) the partisan bickering in Washington becoming magnified,

(4) the increased drag on the economy from those dependent on welfare,

(5) and the accelerating debt crisis soon pushing us off the cliff into the abyss.

As Texans our only reasonable alternative to accepting disaster is peaceful secession. Such a thing is no longer unthinkable. A free and independent Texas would witness an economic boom seldom seen in history. People would flood here for freedom. There come times in history when the longing for freedom becomes stronger than anything else.

How would it work? We Texans would assume our share of the national debt (and perhaps more as a bribe to the cash strapped U.S. government), paid in cash to the U.S. government. We would borrow the money for such a payment. The economic boom we would experience would enable us to pay off the debt.

Obama might even welcome the chance to see us go. Why? Our 34 electoral votes that always goes Republican.

The biggest objection is the potential for war. Unlike 1860, I doubt that the military would obey orders to attack their fellow soldiers, many of whom are from Texas. There is not the stomach to do such a thing as there was in the civil war.

Never going to happen. The Feds depend on Red states like Texas to suck them dry of their wealth to subsidize California, Michigan, New York and the rest of the Blue states.

Well, Obama likes to think of himself as Lincoln.

It’s a nice dream but there are no provisions to do so.

It would be armed insurrection and as independent as Texans are it isn’t feasible.

Non starter. Texas v. White 1869. No right to sucede from Union. That’s what happens when you loose a war. This idea pops up from time to time like Barborossa, Auther, El Cid, etc. Free Texas saving everyone.
Use the SNL Dana Carvey HW Bush voice. “Not gonna happin”.

You would have to. The only thing keeping Texas from falling into the Gulf is that Oklahoma sucks. ;)

Sure.. you guys in the Territory and Tennessee are welcome to join us.

Why not? Nobody to do it for us. The GOP is dead. Let D.C. eat cake.

I’m one Texan that will fight any secession movement with everything I’ve got. I’m sick of these people that have moved to Texas in the last 10-20 years and think they’re real Texans. It’s all your dream, buddy.

That’s what happens when you loose a war.

It's lose, btw, according to culinary school spelling standards..

Wars can't be fought again? Different diplomacy in different times can't work?

Talk about the 30 years war, and how stuff changed then, compared to today.

Papal edicts over borders from the 1630s don't seem to matter much today.

Never going to happen. The Feds depend on Red states like Texas to suck them dry of their wealth to subsidize California, Michigan, New York and the rest of the Blue states.

On average, blue states pay far more in federal taxes than they receive from the federal government, and red states receive more than they pay.

Texas has more people on Medicaid than Iowa, Arkansas, or Mississippi have people.

It is proportional to the number of Messycans they have, which is negligible.

Do you think Marines from Texas or Oklahoma or any Big 12/SEC state is going to fire on their own people? I know two that aren’t.

All you say is true. Texas has not retained the right to secede.

But, Bambi’s admin does not follow or respect the constitution. They can’t tell us what our “rights” are - We say what our “rights” are.

I think all majority red states should get together, get it done!

Then you’ll just have to fight us and lots of Native Texicans who are not willing to stand much more shite from an african style gubmit.

All of us have similar love for America, FRiend, but our beloved Land of the Free and Home of the Brave has just been carjacked and she won’t be recognizable if we ever get her back after the gang strips anything of value and burns the rest.
