The Death of Principle: Let’s Hear No More from the Anti-War Left

Over at the always interesting Bleeding Heart Libertarians blog, Jason Brennan has a contemplative post about the Bush-era anti-terror policies that Obama’s supporters voted to continue. These are the same voters — and candidate, mind you — who once decried Dubya’s anti-terror policies of Gitmo, drones, supposed “torture,” and all the rest as crimes against humanity worthy of charges at the International Criminal Court.

Yet, in four years, Obama has implemented Bush’s anti-terror policies harder and more bluntly. And Obamaphiles and others who once took to the streets and the blogopshere to protest Bush’s “crimes” happily voted for the current commander-in-chief. The hypocrisy can be seen from space.

… Over the past four years, polls have shown that most Americans have simply become comfortable with warrantless wire-tapping, torture, bullying, and assassination. 2012 Obama supporters have a different moral outlook from 2008 Obama supporters. Most Obama supporters just don’t care that Obama does this kind of stuff, even though when Bush did it (and did less of it), it made them furious. Why?

Perhaps they think, “Well, Obama’s such a great guy. If he does this stuff it too, then he must have good reason. After all, he gets daily CIA briefings and we don’t. He knows more than we do.” If you genuinely think this way, then I submit you must now apologize to George W. Bush for your previous protests. To be consistent, you must say, “Bush was right and I was wrong. He knew what he was doing and I didn’t know better. The fact that Obama does the same and more shows Bush was right.”

Read the whole thing.

I think Bush was right. But at least he endeavored (when possible) to capture terrorists, send them to Gitmo, and have them interrogated so we could get intelligence to stop future attacks on America. If death is the worst, isn’t a little enhanced interrogation, the saving of American lives, and a terrorist who is still alive to muck up our judicial system better than the alternative?

Obama’s method is to send in a drone to take out the suspected terrorist — and kill or injure anyone within several hundred feet of him, including women and children. As a not so great bonus, such a strategy also destroys any chance to gain intelligence to stop a future attack. That sure is a lot cleaner than sending them to the “gulag” of Gitmo that Obama promised to close in January 2009 and never did. (BTW: When is someone on the left, or the MSM, going to follow up on that one. It’s been almost four years. Obama has been re-elected now. He’s safe. Let’s get on that, eh?)

A favorite writer of mine, Victor Davis Hanson, has written a lot about this hypocrisy. It’s funny how the left took to the streets to protest the Bush anti-terror foreign policy, but has been utterly silent when the same policies have been implemented by The One.

All credit to doctrinaire libertarians like Jason Brennan for consistency. I can respect his opinion, even if I don’t agree with it. But let’s hear no more from the anti-war left, OK?

Ha! As the Clinton administration came to an end I said to myself “At least they can never again criticize a Republican president for lying. Not after all the lies slick Willy told.”

So what did we get under Bush? “Bush lied, people died.”

The left has no shame.

Have y’all ever played softball or baseball? As you know the other team yells rude, distracting words at the batter. A successful batter tunes them out and stays “focused” on the incoming pitch. Republicans are continually letting the Left’s “distracting crap” lead them....it’s time that the Right learns how to play “hardball” and stay focused on our agenda and quit allowing them to push us into failure.

The left was opposed to war against Nazi Germany, Ut ntil Nazi Germany attacked the USSR. Then they were all for it, and indeed demanded a ‘second front’ from the US even while GB fought in Burma and Egypt, the US fought in Africa and Guadalcanal and China.

They were all for peace, so long as the US permitted North Korea to invade and occupy South Korea...

They were all for peace so long as N.Vietnam was allowed to occupy Laos, Cambodia and S.Vietnam.

They talk a lot about voter disenfranchisement, and arranged for the plan with military ballots to crash in Afghanistan.

They have no shame, and no credibility to people who pay attention.

Who here thinks Bush used the US military to make money for himself?

Now, who thinks Obama uses the US military to make money for himself? That’s right, my hand is up.

Interesting take, it seems to me that our side has been silent for so long and keeping our eye on the ball, while the nitwits get to create the message. blood for oil and all that nonsense.

If we are to keep ahead of their games, perhaps we should learn to use their ‘low info voter’ tricks against them.

But hey, that’s just me.

I say stay focused on our mission, flip them the bird from time to time and tell them to shove it up their arses...yep, that would totally shock them.If enough on our side had this mindset we could “move forward” ha, instead of wasting our time on defense.

The left is only pacifistic when their guy is not running the war or when they secretly support the other side.

Conservatives must understand the “anti-war” movement has never been an anti-war movement

it is, and always has been, at its core a Marxist led and run movement, and it is used when we - our nation - is fighting Marxists, and when a non-Liberal is President and we are involved in any fighting or that President is simply buttressing our national defenses (as when the “anti-war” mmoved mobilized itself as the “anti-nuke-weapon” movement against Reagan

it is, and always has been at its core a Marxist movement against America and its core values

“wars” are just situations where the movement does not want to let a crisis go to waste

the movement has been silent during Obama’s term,

even though he did not pull our troops out of Iraq sooner than had already been agreed to by Bush, and has not pulled our troops out of Afghanistan yet, and in spite of the fact that the “Patriot Act” style measures have run even deeper (many, many more warrantless domestic searches) than under Bush, and Obama claims the right to condem American citizens to death by Executive fiat and carry it out by armed drones; etc., etc., etc

because Obama is a Marxist and one of them and it never was an “anti-war” movement; it was a Marxist political movement and “a war” being executed by any non-Marxist is a political crisis that should not be allowed to go to waste

yea, I know, tons of useful idiot Liberals join the “anti-war” movement all the time; but they are always the drones and those who merely applaud it; they do not set it up, organize it and run it

The left has no shame.

And that is exactly why one cannot argue or negotiate with them. If they are to be defeated, it will have to be via the very methods they have slowly been making "unacceptable". Just as the Left is the entity that riots and commits violence with what amounts to as impunity, so will it take that sort of tactic to quell them.
