FEMA: let’s house Sandy’s Staten Island White Middle Class victims in an old prison

Just imagine for a moment what would happen if George Bush’s FEMA Director “Brownie” had suggested homeless African American victims of Katrina be relocated to an empty Louisiana prison.

I’ll wait while you try to stop laughing and compose yourself. Whether it would have been a good idea or a TERRIBLE INSULT would have made no difference; it would never have even been discussed.

Paternalistic liberals could not sleep at night knowing this was going on. They would much rather “their” Black people sleep in tents….. than sleep in a well-lit warm and safe former prison. “Oh the inhumanity of it all!”

Nevertheless, placing Staten Island’s White Middle Class Sandy victims in the Island’s now abandoned Arthur Kill Correctional Facility is “on the table” as a possibility for solving the temporary housing needs of thousands of homeless Staten Islanders living in New York’s hardest hit borough.

That this is a wonderfully creative idea and a refreshing surprise -from a usually inefficient federal government is self- evident.

Yet what makes this idea (which is way too good and practical to have a chance of actually being adopted) so fascinating is the “deafening” silence from the media about it being a TERRIBILIY INSULTING idea.

There are no Chuck Schumers running to the cameras to beat their pious breasts in mock protest of the “deliberate slight to hard working White Americans.”

Although we know the ……..ask: Why would there be a different response from the Left and the media from one scenario to the next?

The answer is simple: Whites would be expected – no make that REQUIRED- to just go along and “take it.” Whites would be assumed to be big enough people to understand that in an emergency it’s “Any port in a storm.”

The prison sounds a heck of a lot better than "Camp Freedom" in Mammoth, NJ:

Actually it does but I would be pretty wary of it unless they were in the process of tearing down fences and disabling locks.

Yes, exactly. My father lost his family home (which, especially by today’s standards, looks like a verrry modest home, but his parents were considered upper-middle class) when Stalin sent “temporary residents” to “take care” of their home. So, my dad and his family had the choice between Siberia or one of Hitler’s camps. (They were in Hitler’s camp for a bit, but got out and the Communists won the war soon after.)

I suggest that all the rich libs in the Hamptons, allow the displaced to move in with them. I’m sure the guy that hosted Barry’s expensive campaign party in Upper Long Island has lot’s of room on his estate, and lot’s of money to help. /sarc because i know these types won’t do squat

That “deafening silence” is the sound of all the night critters in the jungle suddenly going quiet. Something evil this way comes.

“The prison sounds a heck of a lot better than “Camp Freedom” in Mammoth, NJ:
Bitter cold inside a disaster shelter”

Minor correction, it Monmouth NJ, not Mammoth NJ.

What makes this even worse is the fact that about 2 miles away from Camp Freedom is Fort Monmouth.

Fort Monmouth was a US ARMY base, home to the Communications Electronics Command, West Point Prepratory School and Fort Monmouth garrision. Fort Monmouth closed in 2011 and now sits empty. The Fort is a secure fenced compound that has numerous officers houses, a hotel, apartments, West Point Prepratory barracks in addition to hundreds of townhouses on the property. All of them sit empty and unused while disaster victims are living in tents a five minute drive away.

And where did the house the folks in the “chocolate city”?

Some came to Texas. Some were given THE MOST valuable land around. Many acres and a church. They've built a whole neighborhood of houses on the church property for all their friends and families and aren't paying a dime in taxes.

FEMA purchased thousands - THOUSANDS - of mobile homes for New Orleans Katrina victims - fact.

But they want to put Staten Island residents in an old prison!!!

Yet, GWBush was “racist” and the current admin is not?????

It's a recently abandoned prison without any inmates so living there will be just like dorms. Heck, my first dorm was smaller than many prison cells and I had to share it.

Not ideal, but what are some people supposed to do if their homes are gone and every hotel is filled?

Hey Chris Christie - get out there and call this an outrage, because it is; maybe Staten Island will petition to leave New York and become New Jersey’s newest city. Staten Islanders have more in common culturally with suburban New Jersey than they do New York City and Staten Island is geographically just as close to New Jersey as it is New York.
