I worked in the White House staffer during the first Bush administration. I remember that the president was so mindful of being above reproach when it came to interactions with female staff, he often wouldnt even make direct eye contact with them.
He was an upright man, who took seriously his wedding vows to honor his wife and forsake all others. He took to heart the words of the Apostle Paul, who warned those of us who endeavor to lead righteous lives to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
David Petraeus obviously did not heed the Apostles counsel. Otherwise, he would not have resigned this past Friday as President Obamas CIA Director, following the revelation of his adulterous affair with Paula Broadwell, the home-wrecker who co-authored his biography, All In: The Education of Gen. David Petraeus.
The retired four-star Army general, who met Broadwell when she was an Army Reserve officer, has disgraced himself like no high-ranking federal official since former President Bill Clinton (who not only made direct eye contact with female White House staffers, but also even more promiscuous contact with a certain White House intern).
Now I know that roughly one in five men have committed adultery at least once in their married lives, according to surveys.
I also imagine that at least half of married men have, at some point, been some place, like a gentlemens club, or done some thing, like have an erotic massage, that may not rise to the level of adultery, but certainly dishonors their wives.
Because its fairly common for men to be unfaithful to their wives, because its even more common for men to dishonor their wives, doesnt mean it should be accepted as a fact of life. It doesnt mean we shouldnt expect more of Gen. Petraeus (or any of the rest of us married men, for that matter).
Its all about whether were going to follow Christ, who admonished that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Or whether were going to fall into the snares set for us by our enemy, the devil.
It all gets back to the Apostle Pauls counsel that we take captive every thought. For every sin, every stronghold in our lives wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, gluttony began as an unGodly thought.
Indeed, Petraeus didnt immediately plunge into his adulterous affair with Broadwell.
First he entertained lustful thoughts about her. Then he imagined himself trysting with the scarlet woman. Then he put his thoughts into action, setting into motion the events that led to his current ignominy.
For those among us who, like Petraeus, have secret sin in our lives, let the ruin of his heretofore distinguished career, the probable destruction of his marriage, be a cautionary tale.
He enjoyed the pleasures of sin for a season. But now he has hell to pay.
Maybe MoveOn.org was right for once.....Gen. Betrayus.
Not necessarily. This is a career enhancer in certain circles, particularly if he chooses to run for office as a dim.
We live in a nation that allows homosexuals to “marry” one another. What makes the author think Petraeus even cares about his vows. A majority of the country doesn’t.
Petraeus had an affair, that was wrong and morally reprehensible. Has he lied about it while under oath? If not, he’s not as bad as Clinton.
Give me a break... Studies show that half the women and sixty percent of the men in this country have an affair in their married life.
You’re probably right. We needn’t look any further than Bill Clinton, who received a rousing reception at the Democrat National Convention this past summer.
If true, that makes me feel kinda special.
Petraeus is a schmuck !He was taken down by a KGB "swallow"
His aide de camp had warned him !
A four star general & D/CIA
taken down by a KGB swallow !DA/DT
Petraeus has shown much better taste than Clinton.
Bill Clinton lied and refused to resign. He has no honor.
Petraeus has shown shame & remorse and resigned.
Big difference.
“Worst disgrace” seems like a major overstatement.
Worse than Blagojevich? Eric Holder’s Gun Walker? Obama and Clinton on the Benghazi coverup? Jack Abramoff bribery? Charlie Rangel? Jesse Jackson Jr.? William Jefferson? Trafficant?
Or, if you’re stuck on sex scandals ... John Edwards? Larry Craig? Elliot Spitzer? Anthony Weiner? Jim McGreevey? Mark Sanford? The Secret Service? Jack Ryan?
Petraeus is hardly the biggest desgrace. He had an affair. With a woman. That he didn’t pay. And, he wasn’t doing so behind his dying wife’s back. No bribery, embezzlement, or deaths of federal agents. An affair.
There are a lot bigger disgraces than Petraeus.
SnakeDoc
This is all about Benghazi testimony and who will spill the beans.
Billy Graham’s policy was never be alone in a room with a woman (except his wife).
Smart policy for a powerful man.
IMHO...its all about trying not to discuss election fraud and voter disenfranchisement.
Don’t let Ms Broadwell, or whatever her name is, off the hook so easily. She is a military officer too. She knows the rules and deliberately flaunted them. nd then she went further and threatened a third party. I wonder what she threated Ms. Kelley with that sent her runnng to the FBI?
I’m not excusing Petraeous, but it seems to me that Ms. Broadwell should suffer the same consequences — loss of rank, etc.
“If true, that makes me feel kinda special.”
Here’s a link, but you can find others... It should come as no surprise since the divorce rate is over 50%.

The saddest part is, just like Clinton, his personal failures will overshadow what might otherwise have been a stellar legacy. Many have stated that Petraeus was the greatest military commander since Eisenhower, but now he will be remembered for just being another guy who cheated on his wife and got caught.
he is Obama’s man ...better include him
“Worst disgrace since bill clinton”?
Obama, Kerry, Gore?. I can think of lots of disgraces.
Ahh, the “Everybody Does It” defense.
Did Kerry ever cheat on the current wife of his, or been known to?
I get your point, SnakeDoc. All of the pols you mention were reprehensible. But Petraeus was the sitting CIA Director, the nation’s spy chief. I submit he was capable of doing more damage in his role than any of the others, save for maybe Holder.
Maybe he thought at the time that he was sleeping with an enemy agent as part of his job and for the love of country.
I would say that an even worse case is if the blackmailer is internal, and the blackmail is used to coerce someone like Petraeus to go along with a cover-up for higher officials.
Is there such a thing as friendly fire blackmail?

Studies show that 82.013% of statistics are made up on the spot.
I wasn’t necessarily doubting the stat, I was more making a statement about how special I feel to not be a part of it. With liberalism corroding the family fabric and the ever-deteriorating moral compass of the average American, things like vows and commitment become meaningless. Sad.
Diversionary tactic most fall for immediatley, notice no one talks about fast and furious, ben gahzi or voter fraud in the presidential race. Yea but this sex scandle is something else. They deserve everything they get. At least we knwo whats coming and we can or are prepared these nimrods have no clue
His career will never be what it would have been, but God can do miracles with a wrecked career and a damaged life. He is a master at rebuilding people.
Smart policy for ANY man, powerful or not.
...that we know about.
Keep in mind, we didn't know about Petraeus until after the election.
I keep reminding those around me to (1) consider that we probably don't know everything about this case or others like it, and (2) realize that we'll never receive any information about anything [from the MSM] unless its release furthers the kenyan's agenda.
Something I do not want is a CIC that will not look someone in the eye, regardless of gender. I hope this isn't true as it's odd at best. It's one thing to be mindful of not being seen as harassing but an entire other if you are so worried about it that this is what you do.
Yes. I know another well-known “televangelist” who would never take an out-of-town speaking engagement without his wife coming along. Common sense.
The proper policy is never be alone in a room with a woman... when two are available!
So who is free from sin that they can make this judgment against the General? I know I'm not...
So what makes you so special?
Petraeus is the Oligarchy’s chosen distraction from election fraud...no more..no less
How so? Please explain why.........
Bill Clinton and the General both had their Paulas.
CC
“things like vows and commitment become meaningless”
I don’t know of a woman alive who keeps the vow “love honer and obey”. My wife of 43 years included... And I bet the General’s wife didn’t either.
Our First Muslim President would never order his Muslim Brothers to be attacked and killed by infidels. Obama went to bed while Americans died.
The phrase "hell to pay" is a longstanding code meaning you're looking at a Hillary Op.
This writer, and this article, are perfect examples of that op.
Step back, look a the overall story being promoted - an affair with a four-star general and head of the CIA that is outed by a bitch fight with another woman having an affair with the same guy that gets outed by an investigation by the FBI over threats between the cats?
WTH? This is made in Hollywood for daytime TV soap operas.
Now think - what type of person watches daytime soap operas AND thinks about things with the emotional sophistication of a thirteen year old girl?
Hillary's "Army," that's who.
So why target them in particular?
Because Petraeus has the goods on Hillary over Benghazi, and Hillary is afraid she can't stop him from talking. So if she can't shut him up, she's got to discredit him. But she only has to concern herself with her brain-dead zombies, so she needs to give them a hate scenario. Now let's see, what kind of hate scenario works with females with the emotional maturity of sleezy, foul-mouthed, thirteen year old girls?
How about a cat fight between two women screwing the same guy behind his wife's back?
In HillaryWorld, this automatically makes the guy a sleazebag who they could never trust, who lies when he breathes, who receives ten minutes of hate a day just for existing and who - especially - will be immediately spit upon by thirty million Hillary zombies the moment he DARES try to shift the blame for his sordid, ugly, rotten, male life onto their queen.
I'm telling ya, this is how it works. Hillary's GOT to hold on to these females, and if - and when - they find out she's been murdering ambassadors and committing treason, it's going to give them pause. Probably not a long pause, lasting only between sips of latte, but still, it's a crack in the armor of their loyalty stupidity that Hillary can't risk.
Thus, the cover story. And it even has the perfect title for the soap opera, which was on Drudge, that said: "Stay Away From My Guy."
And now this article is LITERALLY saying to Hillary's followers: "give him hell."
Hillary's Fingerprints are ALL over this.
