An Open Letter To David Petraeus From The American People
The Hayride ^ | Monday, November 12, 2012 | MacAoidh

Posted on 11/12/2012 8:52:31 PM PST by kristinn

We’re doing this in hopes that it might catch on and eventually generate results, so if you agree feel free to share it around via Facebook, Twitter, e-mail or any other method you think is appropriate.

Dear Gen. Petraeus:

The American people have followed your stellar career in the military and your tenure as Director of the CIA with great pride. After over 38 years of devoted military and public service, the abrupt and explicit nature of your letter of resignation presented to the American people by the CIA raises nothing but disquieting questions amid concerns raised by the Benghazi terrorist attack.

The timing alone is bursting with suggestive implications.

Wholly unrelated to marital misconduct, you are at the epicenter of a scandal that has more profound consequences to American self-governance than reports of your spousal infidelity. Your abrupt departure from the CIA has only fueled suspicion surrounding the scope and nature of the entirety of events surrounding the terrorist attack on our mission in Benghazi, Libya, that cost four American lives. The aftermath of the attack and the administration’s actions in its wake demand accountability.

Where you were once reported as anxious to testify before a Congressional oversight hearing, we urge you to put your personal difficulties aside and present the American people the facts as you know them. The unsettling information already in the public realm compels a full, public airing for scrutiny by the American people.

Among the crushing breadth of questions with Constitutional implications:

1. In your Benghazi briefing to Members of Congress in September, on what basis did you include information stating the attack was a response to an obscure YouTube video? Was the YouTube narrative provided to you from someone outside of the CIA? Where did it come from?

2. Without disclosing sources and methods, what was the CIA doing in Benghazi at the time of the September 11 attack on our diplomatic mission there? Why did we have a mission, and a CIA “annex” facility, in one of the most dangerous cities on Earth when every other nation had pulled out of Libya? Are the stories of gun-running to Syria accurate? And are we engaged in weapons-dealing with jihadists associated with Al-Qaeda?

3. If the CIA is engaged in weapons dealing out of Benghazi, was this a policy initiated or proposed by you or your agency? If not, who proposed and initiated the program?

4. Did you actually have an affair with Paula Broadwell? If so, were you ever coerced, threatened or even approached by a person or persons with knowledge of this indiscretion in any way suggestive of blackmail?

5. Did you author or approve the language in your resignation letter? Did you, in fact, agree to resign or were you fired?

6. What did the President know and when did he know it–before, during and after the actual terrorist attack in Benghazi? What was he doing while four Americans lost their lives amid repeated distress calls for help? What were you doing?

As you no doubt are aware, America is a deeply divided country and our citizens have less faith in our government than perhaps ever before. You were one of the few men in Washington the public saw as an honest, capable and admirable public servant. In the wake of your resignation as presented, you still possess a measure of trust from the American people, borne of your lifetime of service that few among our highly-placed officials can claim.

Recent events have only exacerbated that lack of faith in the U.S. government.

It should be no surprise to you that very little of this makes any sense to average Americans–the same Americans who looked to you as an example of character, integrity and honor in military and public service. Your full accounting of these events could begin the long road to a restoration of faith in our own government that only the disinfectant light of truth can make possible.

No closed-door Congressional whisperings. You are no longer bound by that obligation.

As you become enveloped by the full measure of dark machinations our politicos manufacture in their quest to cling to power, your silence will only give confidence to those endeavors.

We urge you without delay to give a full accounting directly to the American people in any public venue of your choosing.

Your adult life has been spent defending us; in these troubling times what the very notion of a free and self-governing America requires is not your military skill but your honesty.

America is waiting, Sir. Our survival in freedom is at stake.

The lives of men and women at over 285 embassies and consulates around the world await on you to do the honorable thing. Your can fix your marriage on your own time.

Does Obama have the power to tell Petraeus that he can’t testify (”executive privilege”)?

Praying and confident that the General will do the RIGHT THING. This is war General, and you are by no means afraid of battle. This may be your last battle for the preservation of America and her people. Please don't let them win.

The enemy is in the house, take him out.

Thank you for your service and God Bless you and your family, watch your back.

All this stupid president knows is he can't break 100 without cheating.

When we first heard of this I found it impossible that a 4 star would risk everything for poontang but I guess I lacked imagination. I guess if an E-5 will anyone will. Amazing. “Look not to your stars, look to yourselves...”

I guess you haven’t noticed the “civic contract” is gone. Integrity is out the window. “Doing the right thing” isn’t worth the effort. This is what Adams meant when he said the Constitution is for “governing a Christian Nation only.” The “tipping point” we have reached is not the 47% in the wagon it is the 80% that lack integrity.

Excellent letter. If General Petraeus has any integrity left, he will spill the beans, for his country’s sake.

Please help to make this "Open Letter to David Petreaus" go viral, so that it has to show up on his screen a thousand times.

We need a man of his stature to think of the Republic first, and put Duty, Honor, Country ahead of his own personal problems.

While I love open letters like this IMHO General Betrayus (how ironic that name seems now...) won't ever respond to any of these questions for the simple reason that he wants to keep his head on his shoulders a few years more.

We are in a time (and have been for a while now) of real darkness, this is the end game the looters are dividing the spoils of this once great nation and the vultures are lining themselves up to pick over the carcass and within a few years, by 2016 I should guess, a day of reckoning will befall this country and it's people. Hillery may well win in 2016 but she will be the Queen of a wrecked and decimated country, Obama will see to that.

Being a mere citizen now, it may be outright illegal for him to say what needs saying. Laws get tricky at such fringes.

Watergate-style stonewalling worked for the Obama administration before, in the investigation into Fast and Furious. In Watergate, the press was eager to have as much dirt come out on Nixon as possible. With Obama, they are out to hide as much as possible. The only exception is Fox, and they can be demonized and treated as partisan.

If Petraeus has lost his security clearance, the administration maybe can control what he would be allowed to talk about to a Congressional committee. If he does testify, will it even make the front pages of newspapers?

“think of the Republic first”

He won’t, never has.

Obama won’t, never will.

Republicans and Demorats that can prosecute such a thing, no way.

People in Washington think and act differently from us. They think that they are above the law - all law. There is no honor left in a man who would so easily betray his wife and his marriage oath.

Just as he has lied in September, so will he lie under oath.

From Beverly Perlson and I agree totally:

Playing in my mind over and over again are our American Heroes begging for help for 7 hours while those in charge watched their brutal battle and did NOTHING TO HELP THEM!

Playing in my mind over and over again is the pathetic response to their cries for help, to their honorable Brothers who made ready to come to their defense, the order of ultimate betrayal of STAND DOWN!

Playing in my mind is their former General, David Petraeus, wimpily and pathetically blaming this horrendous planned attack on our brave Warriors on a video, carrying water for the failed leadership of this administration that our Troops have suffered so tremendously under! No honor here!

There hasn't been honor in his command for a long long time! What General of honor orders his troops out of armored vehicles onto foot patrol on roads laden with IEDs to further the failed policies of his cowardly boss?!! What General of honor continues to promote failed rules of engagement that affords the enemy every advantage on the battlefield and causes more loss of life and limbs in 4 years than the whole war from the beginning?! What kind of General of honor oversees deal making to release terrorists back onto the battlefield, one of which led this attack on our brave Navy Seals who fought the brute to their deaths?!! No honor here!!

Don't talk to me about the honor of General Petraeus! I hope the last thing that plays in my mind is the sound of his cowardly voice testifying to Congress that he has failed his men and he failed his country because somewhere along the way he lost his honor and his career and ego became more important to him than the safety of his men!

I do wonder about the honor of our very highest military officers. They **KNOW** that Obama posted forgeries, fails e-verify, and is using another man's social security. So?....What have they legally and peaceful done about it, except persecute lower level officer who dare to question Obama's right to live in the White house.?

Why would any of our most senior officers dare to accept orders ( especially insane rules of engagement) from a likely usurper without first ( legally and peacefully) getting certifiable evidence from congress and the courts that he was legitimate?
