In their post-election analysis, many of these same “experts” are giving poisonous advice to a party in serious trouble. They are recommending the party move in the direction of Democrats on issues such as illegal immigration, gay marriage, drug use, taxes, abortion to name a few. Following such advice would be the death knell of the Republican Party.

The people who get the most exposure are not so much experts as they are advocates for the beltway status quo.

Well, let's see. How about we just focus on the economy for once?

The republicans need to create a plan where they make it known their main focus are now fiscal issues. Leave social issues to the states themselves.

I will never know why the religious right can't get on board with a plan such as that.

I want the Tea Party to turn extreme right. But stay on course on the fiscal issues which is the most relevant message there.

Of course, the mexiclowns and the non-whites who voted for Buttcrack Odumbo will always vote Dumocrap.

Because there are various stubborn factions within the Conservative umbrella that are unwilling to compromise on their pet issues not taking front-center stage and sucking up all the attention. This sort of internecine obstinacy has been sinking Conservatives in elections. And I’m not just singling out the religious right when I say this, there are others.

Obama won by 406,000 votes. Three million McCain voters stayed home this year. All the policy change in the world cannot overcome lack of voting. Republicans decided it didn’t matter who won. The Republican Party is done. It can lose again in 2016 or some other party that can win will take its place. I could have bought a new wide-screen TV for all the money I’ve given Republicans over the years. That is over for me.

Totally agree. I'm a Libertarian, but I also believe in compromise. There is no such thing as a "pure" candidate.

The democrats have one basic ideology that they and their brainwashed constituents adhere too. That is exactly why republicans keep getting smashed in elections. There are too many factions waiting for their ideal candidate.

It boils down to what can reasonably be done in the political realm...I think too many place their faith in government to be the engine of changing morality and social mores.....those have to be done outside of the political realm. I believe that even amongst many who claim to be “pro-choice”, they still look down on people who have had abortions...I think using social sanctioning, can be effective without having to bring it into the political realm. What the government must guarantee is the rights for those efforts....because the Democrats would love to silence opposition to their social agenda....so now we turn it into more of a “Freedom of Speech” issue, which is a winning proposition for our side....it gets rid of the notion that Republicans want to run peoples’ lives.

I find myself agreeing with Herman Cain that we need a Conservative Party. Not like the GOP is going to win anything anyway.

We have past the tipping point. The looters will control future presidential elections. They will go for the one who will give them the most goodies. It will never again be the republican.

I agree. There are many issues which could at least be kicked back to state and local tiers of government, and/or dealt with outside of government altogether. I don’t believe that centralized statist control can induce a society to have desirable social mores acting from the top-down; social mores are better actuated from bottom-up, starting at individual and community levels.

The 'party' is your neighbors, not some people in Washington. The people who choose the nominees and set the policies the party pursues are the people who show up and vote in the primaries.

These 'advice' columns are inane because they are advising someone that doesn't exist. There is no centrally-control, hierarchical organization to make decisions; it is a fully-realized network of individuals who make their own choices in the voting booth based on who is around.

Right. And even if there were a “pure” candidate who held exactly the same principles as a given voter, it wouldn’t be practically feasible for that candidate to govern politically in strict categorical adherence to those principles. Compromise is necessary in attempting to adequately represent the diverse demands of many different people simultaneously—though compromise doesn’t necessarily imply becoming more like a Liberal Democrat as some mistakenly believe; those who fear that compromise = liberalism, aren’t thinking creatively enough about how to methodologically implement Conservative-minded solutions to address common problems.

These elections are NOT certified yet. The only way to get this investigated, much less recounted or overturned, is through the Secretary of State of each of the five key states: Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. EVEN IF YOU ARE IN ANOTHER STATE you can help. But it won’t do any good to dilute our effort to challenge California or Michigan or other states. Until a major group gets involved to do more, here is the plan: Contact the Secretary of State of the state in question. See contact information below...

They are recommending the party move in the direction of Democrats on issues such as [...] drug use

The issue is not "drug use" but drug policy - keeping the drug alcohol legal is not an endorsement of alcohol use. The only demonstrable effect of anti-drug laws is to hyperinflate drug profits and channel those profits into criminal hands ... like Prohibition before it.
