AMF Bowling Worldwide Inc., the world's largest bowling operator, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to restructure its mounting debt.
The Hanover County-based company said this morning that it filed a pre-arranged petition with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Richmond.
AMF said it expects completing the restructuring process and exiting Chapter 11 within five months.
AMF operates a location in Lynchburg near the intersection of U.S. 29 and Candlers Mountain Road, near James T. Davis Paint Center.
The company said it will continue its normal business operations during the Chapter 11 process, and its bowling centers will maintain normal operating schedules...

Here’s an idea for a new TV game show-
“Bowling For Food Stamps”...on The Learning Channel!
Another: “Pimp My Section 8 Crib”
Who could afford to bowl in this economy? Last time the four of us went bowling it was nearly $100 for a couple of games and some Cokes.
I’m old enough to remember when they owned Harley-Davidson.
Maybe they should take food stamps for the food and beverage service . . .
GOOD, they DESERVE it after what they did to My Beloved “HARLEY-DAVIDSON”!
That show could run for a long time since some voters never learn!
Or a show based on the song, “Take the Skinheads Bowling.”
Bowling. Another white guy thing whose time has come and gone.
You know, like freedom, democracy, capitalism, self-reliance, etc.
Which now stands for "Adios, MoFo!"
No business major here, so a question.....
Do any businesses at all run without a seeming day to day reliance on credit?
Purple Angle, Black Angle were the balls of choice in the 90s Urethane cover, lots of snap on the back end, and carried like rolling a barbell down the lane.
Adios my friends,
Same here - I literally shuddered remembering that fiasco
I think it’s time for a sit com of a family like the typical “O” supporters.
Everyone on the dole and LOVING it.
All the low IQ gaffs, all the avoidable and stupid loser problems that these people create for themselves, all the fathers’ day confusion, the monthly mad scramble to the welfare office to get the latest and most outrageous hand out, etc.
I’d watch because it would be TOO funny!
Here's the first responder to the casting call:
Whatever happened to that Conservative TV channel Kelsey Grammar was trying to start? Your show sounds like it would be a natural there.
When I was a kid in the seventies, we used to bowl for 12 cents a game.
I realize that everything gets more expensive, but the last time I took my three kids bowling, it was over a hundred bucks for about 75 minutes of playing time.
Bye bye bowling. You weren't all that interesting in the first place.
Our local “Main Event” is still packed every weekend.
They still do well with leagues, but as an unaffiliated recreational past-time, they are dead in the water.
The league bowlers will get old and die and there will be a dearth of new bowlers coming in because not enough people are willing to pay their golf course prices.
AMF should ask Obama that the bowling alley will create GREEN ENERGY, so he can give them TAXPAYERS MONEY!!
How can the Obama administration allow “big bowling” to fail?
Won’t happen - nobody will like the idea of actually having to DO SOMETHING to get food stamps...
A score of 37! That's twenty less than the number of states.
The alleys around here have $1 games at least once a week.
Awww, this makes me sad. So much fun, many years ago.
We bowled at Paramus Lanes, Home of Champs.
Take a read about the Home of Champions:
“the bowling alley will create GREEN ENERGY”
Harness the static electricity generated by the ball rolling down the lane and through the ball return. Our green energy problems are solved. How cool is that? /s
I got mixed reactions whenever I said “It’s leaking like an AMF Harley.” People had to think for a second that it wasn’t an insult to HD but to AMF.
Now that there is the most sophisticated political discernment you will ever see!
I wonder, what’s the difference between handing out money or booze at the polling places or bribing people for votes all the way up to the election day?
