Petitions to Secede From US Explode, Now Exceed 675,000; Texas Approaches 100k
Pundit Press ^ | 11/14/12 | Aurelius

Every single state in the union has created a petition to secede from the United States in the aftermath of President Obama's reelection.

Already, in a mere week, seven states have exceeded 25,000 each, which triggers an automatic review from the White House (or so they've promised). Those states are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

At the time of writing, Texas has already garnered an incredible 97,083 signatures. In fact, over a thousand had signed the petition in the time it took to write this article.

Texas's petition reads:

The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.
Combined, across the nation the number of signatures has exceeded 675,000 and it rapidly growing.

The Lone Star state was once once an independent republic before. It could do it again. The Feds need them far more than they need the Feds.

Let the Bosniasation begin! Why is it that the people of NYC, Los Angeles and Chicago think the whole country should be run by them? There is more to America than a few major cities.

I just got a phone call from “Defeat Obama” with a 202 area code. I didn’t answer it — got tired of the dozens of political calls over the past few months, but it seems that someone somewhere isn’t giving up on this.

We Got a Winner.

If the State Legislatures and / or Governors were passing and signing LEGISLATION, as the elected representatives of the citizens of the several States, THAT would be significant.

That any number of individuals are ‘signing’ some Website posting is beyond insignificant. Remember the ‘Di-hydrogen Oxide Ban’ petitions ?

There is NO significance whatsoever in this ‘petitioning’ UNTIL or UNLESS the sovereign States themselves are the source of this.

Shouldn’t these petitions be going to the governors of the individual states?
If there’s enough states the governors can all get together and not sucede, but expel the commies.

That's what I was thinking. I definitely wouldn't want my name on a list like these petitions. You might as well paint a bulls-eye on your forehead. Like “asking” to secede is really going to work out. It would only work if done “Declaration of Independence” style, with the states wanting to secede declaring that they have no faith or trust in the current government, and are leaving the union, like it or not. Also, it doesn't even compare to the CW, for the very reason for secession is violating out right to redress our grievances, along with rights reserved by the individual states.

“Yup, its not gonna happen.

So you assume 49% of America is going to lie down and say OK, sir, your boot on my neck is quite comfortable.

I’d love to hear those who poopoo the idea of a peaceful secession tell us exactly what course of action is available to those who love the Constitution and the small, limited federal government outlined in it.

The moochers and those who lord over them now outnumber us as was proven a little over a week ago. In 2014 and surely in 2016, those 47MM food stamp recipients will number 60MM or more, disabilty recipients will be millions more in number and the statists will still have a propagandizing media at their beckon call.

So how, sir, is this situation reversible or escapable by conventional electoral means? I’m willing to listen to any ideas.

We have the right to freedom.

We have the right independence from this evil, disgusting communist Obama and its evil regime in Waschington DC. don't we( can anyone here claim we don't?). Scotland, all Scottish people, will have the vote for independence from England, why can't we? Georgia and other soviet republics voted for independence from the Soviet Union and are now free.

I live in the South in Louisiana. I don't know if we think differently than you all but I see it as we have 2 choices live on our knees waiting until some Obamacare death panel chooses to end our lives or some other gov agency like the EPA ends our livelihood or we can fight for what we believe in now. Patrick Henry “Give me liberty or give me death!”

Let’s get real. No one is seceding. These petitions are just a way for people to vent and fed gov to get lists of potential trouble makers. There is no way you will get 2/3rds of the people in 2/3rds of the people in 2/3rds of the States to agree to this.

This is just a post-election temper tantrum with people threatening to take their toys out of the sandbox. We won’t change a thing until we start dealing with the individual attitudes of dependency that got us in this mess in the first place.

As has been stated, if you won’t sign your name to a simple protest petition... We can’t count on you for ANYTHING else.

This is an attempt to re-fire the Soap box rather than having to open the Cartridge box.

Of course, if you are against a simple petition, I can only imagine the words you may have in store for those who might advocate taking their Country back by force of arms...

It just irritates me that these clowns get a stiffy over the idea of secession but didn’t even bother to vote in downticket races for things like college administrators where the creation of marxism in America begins.

Its not that liberals are good at what they do so much as conservatives are pathetic and can’t see past the brass ring.

Uh, no, they can’t. They tried it in 1861. After the war (in 1869), in a dispute over Texas’s prewar ownership of US Treasury bonds, the US Supreme Court held that Texas’s secession was null and void from the git-go (and thus the sale of the bonds by the Confederate government was illegal). The case was White v. Texas.

Don’t they teach that case in 4th Grade Texas History class?

Joining the Union voluntarily would predicate the idea that you were free to leave said Union as well.

More like marriage, without divorce. “For better or for worse, in sickness or in health.”

It’s an 1869 case. Good luck getting the current Court to overrule it.

You’re correct, there isn’t.

However, the question of the secession of Texas was put to the Supreme Court in 1869, and the Court already ruled.

The Court is not last because they’re right, they’re right because they’re last.

“It is emphatically the province and duty of the Judicial Department to say what the law is.” —Marbury v. Madison (1803).

Again, how many B1 bombers does Texas have? I understand your emotion, but secession is a fool’s errand.

Those dreaming of a glorious civil war aren’t thinking things through either.

The feds already have a lot of potential hostages overseas in uniform. They can shut down virtually all energy and communications putting the very young, very old and sick in dire danger inside of a few days. Goods will stop moving and only a tiny minority will have food to last more than a few months and certainly won’t have what it takes to march off for an indeterminate length of time to fight an invisible enemy who only needs to outlast them.

Wiser men are looking at the smart methods the marxists used to put themselves in power and learning to defeat them that way. Bill Ayers tried it the violent way and found failure. He went about it by peaceful means and found great success when no one was looking.
