There have been rumors that Fareed Zakaria is in the running to be Secretary of State in President Obama's second term. While the now leading candidate may be worse, this op-ed by Zakaria in the Washington Post makes you wonder why he was ever considered.
Zakaria gives us a rundown of the region and reaches the following conclusions..
This is why Egypt, despite being under a new Islamist government, is not going to risk war with Israel. Nor are the other Arab states. They will make fiery speeches and offer humanitarian assistance. But they will not fight alongside the Palestinians in Gaza or do anything that could trigger a wider war.
Turkey, another powerful regional player, has a government that has weakened its ties with Israel and clashed with it repeatedly over its treatment of the Palestinians. But these are verbal clashes, unlikely to amount to much more. In fact, Turkey is now facing a situation in which its efforts to become a regional power have backfired. It gambled that it would be able to dislodge the regime in Syria, which has not yet happened. Its relations with Iraq have deteriorated as it shields the Sunni vice president from Baghdads Shiite-led government, which wants to arrest him. And since Turkey has frosty relations with Israel, it can only watch from afar as Egypt becomes the bridge between Israel and Hamas. The only real outside broker in the region is, of course, the United States, Israels closest ally.

No. Seriously?? Wow.
Nothing obama does surprises me anymore. He’ll spend the next four years sticking his finger in our eye.
“idiots” of America, unite!
Enjoy your death, you suicidal freaks. Just don’t do it on my time!
“thank” you Bin Ghazi Obama!
Another foreigner as Secretary of State? First Kissinger, then Albright, and now this? Add up the years and its a large percentage of that time.
No other country on earth would consistently use foreigners to represent them.
And he’s the author of the book “the Post American World”.
Disgusting. Is it time yet?
At least Henry Kissinger served in the military. Did the other two?
He’s worse than Rice! Rice is an idiot far out of her leagues of intelligence. (and dishonest)
Fareed is a smart SOB, who believes in diminishing Americas place in the world. More dangerous by far.
True,, but if you didn’t grow up watching Leave it to Beaver and Gunsmoke, my official ruling is “ineligible”. Both by age, and by culture. A one time thing might be explained away by war service,,, but this is a pattern.
Wasn’t he busted. and fired from CNN for plagarism then rehired after a couple of weeks?
Let’s see a known liar and intellectual property thief, an Arab and muslimb for Barry Soetero’s SS? Yep, perfect fit!
This, Israel, Egypt.... Are you people cluing in to what God is up to? As a watchman on the wall, it is obvious to me....
It would not be surprising if Obama were to pick Zakaria as Sec. of State as it would help the Democrats with the Indian American vote.
Oh, come on folks.
Who better ?
After all, he sits on the Board Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations, right along with Madeleine Albright, Tom Brokaw and Penny Pritzker.
He would obviously be aligned quite well with the best interests of every citizen of the World Order that the best and brightest elites have laid out for us.
at least K was on our side.
The scariest thing about Fareed Zakaria is that he and Free Trader Globalists agree on a lot of things....and the left-moderate GOP in the Senate will vote for his confirmation.
An In-experienced Globalist NutJob is the last thing we need as Sec of State....and Zakaria would get politically rolled by other nation’s diplomats
...as Secretary of State?
Even Mitch McConnell (Impotence Queen-KY) ought to be able to get riled up over this.
Article, and comments # 1 through 16.
Actually, not much different from Hillary in his attitude toward our various enemies.
Which is not intended as a compliment.
I think he has in mind sticking something else in another bodily orifice.
Which is likely why he appeals to The Won.
