Skip to comments.Robert Blakey: The Mafia Is Most Likely Culprit Behind Kennedy Assassination

Forty-nine years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy former mob buster Robert Blakey contends the most likely explanation from the available evidence is that the Mafia was responsible as reported by Tovin Lapan for the Las Vegas Sun:
"I think the mob set Oswald up as a patsy. It's not that I think (Oswald) didn't shoot (Kennedy), but that I think he was set up so (investigators) would focus on the Cuban connections (and not the mob). Did the mob do it? I don't know for sure, but it explains more of the evidence than anything else."
Blakey, currently a law professor at the Notre Dame Law School, is the author of The Plot To Kill The President which first set forth the case that the Mafia got away with assassinating Kennedy as reported by David Talbot for Salon:
"[Blakey] would emerge as the Warren Report's most authoritative critic and a firm believer that Kennedy had died as the result of a conspiracy, masterminded by [New Orleans Godfather Carlos] Marcello and his Mafia ally, Santo Trafficante, the Florida godfather who had been driven out of the lucrative Havana casino business by Castro and who had been recruited in the CIA plot to kill the Cuban leader."
Historians increasingly have embraced Blakey's analysis, and in 2008 Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann published Legacy of Secrecy in which they rather conclusively establish the mob's responsibility for the hit against the President.
Leonardo DiCaprio will star in and produce the film adaptation of Legacy of Secrecy in which "DiCaprio will play FBI informant Jack Van Laningham, who befriends the southern mafia leader, Carlos Marcello, a man the book fingers as the potential mastermind of the 1963 murder (he reportedly even confessed involvement)" as reported by Terri Schwartz for MTV.
With regard to Marcello's confession to Laningham regarding the Kennedy assassination, in reviewing Legacy of Secrecy for the Herald Sun James Campbell wrote the following:
The strongest evidence the authors produce is Marcello's confession to an FBI informant in the 1980s. "The FBI had managed to get an informant inside Marcello's cell and Marcello trusted this guy," Waldron said. According to a 1985 memo quoted in the book, the informant told the FBI: "On December 15, 1985, he (the informant) was in the company of Carlos Marcello and another inmate at the Federal Correctional Institute, Texarkana, Texas, engaged in conversation. Carlos Marcello discussed his intense dislike of former President John Kennedy as he often did. Unlike other such tirades against Kennedy, however, on this occasion Carlos Marcello said, referring to President Kennedy, 'Yeah, I had the son of bitch killed. I'm glad I did it. I'm sorry I couldn't have done it myself.'"
Anytime some mob apologist delusionally waxes romantic about how patriotic the Mafia is, just remember that the boys likely were the ones who whacked the President. Now how patriotic was that?
The best information I have ever seen on JFK is the series called, “The Men Who Killed Kennedy.”
Of course the Mob did it. Rumrunner Joe went to the Chicago mob to fix the election. The Mob gave JFK Chicago which gave him Illinois which gave him the election. Naturally they thought this should give them some pull with the White House. Problem was Joe Kennedy had a stroke and never told his boys what he had done. When JFK appointd brother Bobby Attorney General and made prosecuting the Mafia Job Number One, the good fellas in Chicago were rightfully pissed off. PO’d enough to have Kennedy whacked for double crossing them and generally being a jerk.
One thing for sure, the only group that could have kept their mouths shut all this time would be the mob.
I agree. Great series. You cannot believe this was not a conspiracy.
Every visit to Dalls is never complete without a “moment of silence” drive-by down Elm St. Almost 50 years later and it was the perfect crime. More than JFK died that day. The bond between the government and we citizens was murdered as well.
Mafia in connection with LBJ.
I still think that Kennedy dared to have put in circulation over 200 million dollars of USA dollars which could be used in place of the Fed Reserve notes had some connection to his assassination. The Fed ‘notes’ of indebtedness which we call ‘dollars’ are in fact owned by international banking interests. The stage for this takeover was set under POTUSA Wilson with the help of the European big money controllers and aided and abetted by USA government people. Kennedy could not be allowed to up set their money cart.
Didn’t JFK sign a bill or order to audit the FED a month before?
I always thought about that, that if the Mafia didn’t kill JFK then it would be very surprising to say the least considering how the Kennedys screwed them over after they helped JFK get elected. I mean do people honestly think the mob was like “Oh it’s the Kennedys, let’s forgeddabowdit”?? I don’t think so. I think they also had Bobby wacked. The Kennedys were arrogant as all hell, still are, and that’s why there are so many dead ones. They always seem to over-estimate themselves.
Posner’s book is sooooo silly....so full of holes...he sets out to prove that Oswald acted alone...a man with no motive to kill the president he told many was “the best”...Posner simply ignores evidence that does not fit his theory and whitewashes other evidence.
All one needs to know about the Kennedy assassination is that the “single bullet” theory was invented by....Arlen Spector...enough said?
Vincent Bugliosi studied this case for more than 20 years... he put the conspiracy theories to the test and none of them added up. His book, “Reclaiming History” debunked them all.
But hey... conspiracies are fun.. they`re so much more interesting than the truth. Plus, they go on forever.
Vinnie also wrote a book saying that George W. Bush should be prosecuted for the first degree murder of US soldiers.
Opinions are still changing about details in the Lincoln assassination. So I’m sure people will be talking about Kennedy’s long after I’m gone.
The most startling thing to me is that nearly a half century has passed since that fateful day...........Where on earth did those years go?
The mob were furious that their old ally’s sons were going after them...they stole Illinois for JFK in ‘60 and helped out in the West Virginia primary delivering brown bags of cash to county officials to fix that vote...Humphrey, a Protestant, was slaughted by Kennedy, a Catholic, in W. VA, a state that was 90% Protestant...and ignorant...it had one of the lowest rates of education in the union at that time.
Of course the mob hit him...this has been general knowledge for many years...just don’t tell the msm...but they had to have the help of LBJ. They had to know there would be no serious investigation afterwards.
Johnson and the mob hated the Kennedys.
JFK was having an affair with a communist spy. The story was about to come out. Kennedy was killed in Texas, his VPs home state. Oswald gets gunned down on tv by a guy who is going to die. The Democrats killed their own President.
The mafia did it, yet the files remain sealed.
You are completely wrong...read SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TALKED...can’t think of the author right now...he explains that scores of people with knowledge have talked since the assassination...Bugalosi (sp?) ignores them all.
Not this sh*t again...
Please... “general knowledge” without a shred of evidence.
Would the mob have complete dossiers on people, ready to be turned over the minute they were needed?\
If not, who would?
Oh, mister mafia man... over here...
C`mon...people seeking attention can talk all they want... where..again.. is the evidence?
Posner is a complete fool..or worse...a liar.
Bingo! The case is closed, and rightly so.
My late wife’s theory was that Maryln Monroe’s real father ranked high in the mafia hierarchy. The mod blamed Kennedy for her death and he paid for killing her with his life. This makes it a great twofer conspiracy.
Bugliousi is another fool. He is simply very wrong and does not deal with the real evidence competently. His latest book is all about debunking the existence of God..another lie. How can you trust him? Good lord.
The guy who put it together was British and originally wanted to just do a one hour presentation. Instead, he chased down so many leads that it ended up becoming a series. He demonstrated that the Mafia did the job and that Oswald was indeed a patsy.
It answered all of my questions.
My head hurts.
Show time produced a movie about joe bonanno. After the movie there was an interview with the old don.
He said Giancarlo ordered the hit and gave location of the shooters.
An old mans glorified story or the truth?
Never saw the movie or interview repeated.
It certainly took him long enough to come around to this — years ago, Blakey identified the precipitating moment in the decision to assassinate JFK, which was RFK’s rough arrest and deportation of Carlos Marcello and dumping him off in a Central American jungle. Weird coincidence that RFK was also assassinated, huh?
Giancano. Damn autotext
Oswald murdered Kennedy with an entirely capable Italian military surplus rifle. It was a dead simple shooting feat for Oswald, combining his equipment and his USMC military marksmanship.
There's nothing else to the story.
I would add that any planner would have to know about the open car. Was Oswald or others just lucky. In killing Kennedy I think they said Kennedy told the ss the day before, no top. How could anyone rely on that?
Everybody should know by now that the Magic Bullet killed Kennedy and then it went on to fame by getting somebody a Senate seat from Pennsylvania.
I tend to agree. And then we lost Bobby. Yup...sounds right.
Marcello allegedly told Frank Ragano, his lawyer of many years, that he had JFK killed to get back at Bobby Kennedy for deporting him to Guatamala but he also lamented that he should have gone after Bobby, not Jack.
When I visited Dallas, I went to the Museum and looked through the window to the little "x" on the street. My first comment was how easy a shot this was. I'm no marksman but I am confident I could have made the shot.
And the Zero regime most likely
The Leftists media and academia writing history who were alive at the time and/or alive today will NEVER reach a conclusion that a commie conspiracy was responsible for the death of President Kennedy.....NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.
The Left will go to great lengths to prove theories that the Mafia or other entities conspired to do the deed. It will not involve Moscow or Castro in the mix.
It just so happened that unstable, attention-seeking Oswald, by chance a communist sympathizer, decided to assassinate JFK and go down in history as a hero to some and a scoundrel to others....but he WOULD get royally noticed in either case. He was a lone-wolf psycho just like the guy that popped John Lennon.
The Mafia generally and historically won't get involved in conspiracies to take out presidents, popes or policemen by assassination no matter the provocation because they never want to call attention and the spotlight to themselves in this manner. They mostly stick to killing each other.
Correction. Ragano said that Santo Trafficante said this about Marcello. It should also be noted that the FBI had notice of an assassination plot on Kennedy a few days earlier in Miami.
I will say this about Oswald - he was involved and the proof is that he left his wedding ring and almost all his money on the dresser for his wife Marina before going off to the Book Depository building. An innocent man would not have done that.
Beyond this, it’s all speculation.
It looks like it might be true—The Mob invented the “Double Hit” Oswald kills the President or is part of the plot. A second man—with terminal cancer—kills Oswald-—then dies. All the lose ends tied up in a nice bundle. I wonder why? Some say it because the Kennedy brothers killed Maryln Monroe (because she had JFK’s baby aborted and was a bout to go public with it). Or it could be payback for letting Cuba go Communist. Next big mystery—how RFK was killed?
now dog-gone it just the other night some guy on Coast to Coast said it was the crazy vietnamese lady behind it all.
I think he was killed by a Commie who had once defected to the USSR.
