Skip to comments.Robert Blakey: The Mafia Is Most Likely Culprit Behind Kennedy Assassination

Forty-nine years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy former mob buster Robert Blakey contends the most likely explanation from the available evidence is that the Mafia was responsible as reported by Tovin Lapan for the Las Vegas Sun:
"I think the mob set Oswald up as a patsy. It's not that I think (Oswald) didn't shoot (Kennedy), but that I think he was set up so (investigators) would focus on the Cuban connections (and not the mob). Did the mob do it? I don't know for sure, but it explains more of the evidence than anything else."
Blakey, currently a law professor at the Notre Dame Law School, is the author of The Plot To Kill The President which first set forth the case that the Mafia got away with assassinating Kennedy as reported by David Talbot for Salon:
"[Blakey] would emerge as the Warren Report's most authoritative critic and a firm believer that Kennedy had died as the result of a conspiracy, masterminded by [New Orleans Godfather Carlos] Marcello and his Mafia ally, Santo Trafficante, the Florida godfather who had been driven out of the lucrative Havana casino business by Castro and who had been recruited in the CIA plot to kill the Cuban leader."
Historians increasingly have embraced Blakey's analysis, and in 2008 Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann published Legacy of Secrecy in which they rather conclusively establish the mob's responsibility for the hit against the President.
Leonardo DiCaprio will star in and produce the film adaptation of Legacy of Secrecy in which "DiCaprio will play FBI informant Jack Van Laningham, who befriends the southern mafia leader, Carlos Marcello, a man the book fingers as the potential mastermind of the 1963 murder (he reportedly even confessed involvement)" as reported by Terri Schwartz for MTV.
With regard to Marcello's confession to Laningham regarding the Kennedy assassination, in reviewing Legacy of Secrecy for the Herald Sun James Campbell wrote the following:
The strongest evidence the authors produce is Marcello's confession to an FBI informant in the 1980s. "The FBI had managed to get an informant inside Marcello's cell and Marcello trusted this guy," Waldron said. According to a 1985 memo quoted in the book, the informant told the FBI: "On December 15, 1985, he (the informant) was in the company of Carlos Marcello and another inmate at the Federal Correctional Institute, Texarkana, Texas, engaged in conversation. Carlos Marcello discussed his intense dislike of former President John Kennedy as he often did. Unlike other such tirades against Kennedy, however, on this occasion Carlos Marcello said, referring to President Kennedy, 'Yeah, I had the son of bitch killed. I'm glad I did it. I'm sorry I couldn't have done it myself.'"
Anytime some mob apologist delusionally waxes romantic about how patriotic the Mafia is, just remember that the boys likely were the ones who whacked the President. Now how patriotic was that?
Marcello allegedly told Frank Ragano, his lawyer of many years, that he had JFK killed to get back at Bobby Kennedy for deporting him to Guatamala but he also lamented that he should have gone after Bobby, not Jack.
When I visited Dallas, I went to the Museum and looked through the window to the little "x" on the street. My first comment was how easy a shot this was. I'm no marksman but I am confident I could have made the shot.
And the Zero regime most likely
The Leftists media and academia writing history who were alive at the time and/or alive today will NEVER reach a conclusion that a commie conspiracy was responsible for the death of President Kennedy.....NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.
The Left will go to great lengths to prove theories that the Mafia or other entities conspired to do the deed. It will not involve Moscow or Castro in the mix.
It just so happened that unstable, attention-seeking Oswald, by chance a communist sympathizer, decided to assassinate JFK and go down in history as a hero to some and a scoundrel to others....but he WOULD get royally noticed in either case. He was a lone-wolf psycho just like the guy that popped John Lennon.
The Mafia generally and historically won't get involved in conspiracies to take out presidents, popes or policemen by assassination no matter the provocation because they never want to call attention and the spotlight to themselves in this manner. They mostly stick to killing each other.
Correction. Ragano said that Santo Trafficante said this about Marcello. It should also be noted that the FBI had notice of an assassination plot on Kennedy a few days earlier in Miami.
I will say this about Oswald - he was involved and the proof is that he left his wedding ring and almost all his money on the dresser for his wife Marina before going off to the Book Depository building. An innocent man would not have done that.
Beyond this, it’s all speculation.
It looks like it might be true—The Mob invented the “Double Hit” Oswald kills the President or is part of the plot. A second man—with terminal cancer—kills Oswald-—then dies. All the lose ends tied up in a nice bundle. I wonder why? Some say it because the Kennedy brothers killed Maryln Monroe (because she had JFK’s baby aborted and was a bout to go public with it). Or it could be payback for letting Cuba go Communist. Next big mystery—how RFK was killed?
now dog-gone it just the other night some guy on Coast to Coast said it was the crazy vietnamese lady behind it all.
I think he was killed by a Commie who had once defected to the USSR.
hom Hartmann and Lamar Waldron, authors of the recently published Legacy of Secrecy which rather conclusively establishes that three mob bosses — Carlos Marcello, Santo Trafficante, and Johnny Rosselli — were responsible for the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, are rallying behind Abraham Bolden in The Huffington Post:
A great miscarriage of justice has kept most Americas from learning about a Civil Rights pioneer who worked with President John F. Kennedy. But there is finally a way for citizens to not only right that wrong, but bring closure to the most tragic chapter of American presidential history. After an outstanding career in law enforcement, Abraham Bolden was appointed by JFK to be the first African American presidential Secret Service agent, where he served with distinction. He was part of the Secret Service effort that prevented JFK’s assassination in Chicago, three weeks before Dallas. But Bolden was framed by the Mafia and arrested on the very day he went to Washington to tell the Warren Commission staff about the Chicago attempt against JFK. * * * It’s now clear that an associate of Rosselli and Trafficante — Chicago mobster Richard Cain, who was a high official in the Cook Country/Chicago Sheriff’s department — was in the perfect position to frame Bolden.
Abraham Bolden, who spent six years in prison following his railroaded conviction on the bribery charges which were trumped up by the mob to discredit and silence him, has written The Echo From Dealey Plaza in the continued effort to clear his name
A commie acted alone, deal with it.
Dont’ forget Jo DiMaggio. That Italian sounding last name must have had connections. :/
I completely believe this theory connecting Oswald to the New Orleans mafia.
The conenctions are very well laid out in Mafia Kingfish, by John H Davis. I beleive it was published in the late 80s.
In the book he describes;
Connections of Oswald to the NO mob, plenty.
Connects Ruby to the mob.
Connects people seen and photographed in Dallas near the scene back to the NO & Dallas mob.
Set up style of the patsy parallels mob history
Motive. It was not money, mob losses due to DOJ crackdown. Related to RFKs zealous prosecution, but for Marcello, it was personal.
Sounds like these writers are onto the same trail.
The only reason Lee Harvey Oswald even had a job at the Texas School Book Depository from where he shot President Kennedy was because of a lady named Ruth Paine.
Ruth Paine is a nice Quaker lady who was looking after Marina Oswald and managed through a friend to get Lee Harvey Oswald a box-kicking warehouse job at the Texas School Book Depository during the short time the Oswalds were reconciling from a previous marital separation. The only reason Ruth Paine even knew Marina Oswald was because they were introduced by a mutual friend from a choral singing group who thought that Ruth would enjoy meeting a native Russian speaker, since Ruth Paine was a member of Quaker pen pal program between the USA and the USSR.
Ruth Paine is still alive and living in California, still doing her liberal-ass Quaker charities and stuff. She still gets interviews from time to time. For there to have been a conspiracy in the assassination of JFK, Ruth Paine would have had to have been a kingpin in either the Mafia, the CIA, the Cuban military, an anti-Castro soldier of fortune, a Pentagon deep covert agent, a Russian hit woman, or some part of any of the wild theories used by crackpots to explain their money-grubbing conspiracy.
Unfortunately for the conspiracists, the fact that Ruth Paine is/was none of those things and continues to be alive is shattering to their conspiracy theory's credibility -- so they typically just ignore all mention of her as if she never existed.
At the time of the Kennedy assassination, I owned a Club (CIRO’S) on Rush Street, on Chicago’s near north side.. The club was, among being in the center of the fast lane in Chicago’s nightlife, was a popular spot for many of the Mob 2nd tier leaders,(capo’s) to meet with their hooker/stripper, girlfriends..
Most of them tried to maintain a lower profile, you could not avoid their presence.. Several of the bosses brought out of town friends with them to talk away from their own clubs, which many of them had.. One was a strip-club owner from Dallas, Jack Ruby, who I didn’t know his identity, until after he killed Oswald..
Some of the local strippers at that time knew him and worked for him at his Dallas Strip Club.. There was no doubt that he was connected to the Chicago Outfit, through Carlos Marcello, via Joseph Campisi, the Dallas connection.. Ruby got his start and his connection on Rush Street years before..
Well, a day or two after Ruby shot Oswald, one of the strippers was sitting with a group, and had her share of drink, they appeared that they were really celebrating the Kennedy affair, said in a louder voice “didn’t you tell me that Jack (Ruby) was going to pop Oswald?”..
With that, one of the guys grabbed her by the hair, and pulled her close and whispered something to her that caused her to start crying.. Shortly after that she was escorted out and I never saw her again..
I just happened to be at the table at the time opening a bottle of Champagne.. They all looked at me, and the oxygen left the room, the big guy said not to worry about me because I grew up in the neighborhood and he knew my whole family.. GULP!
Can you prove that she's not a Reverse Vampire?
Yep, I saw that series. It was very interesting.
At the time of the assassination, I was in High School and I thought maybe Castro hired some assassins to get even with Kennedy, and that the Warren Commission whitewashed it to prevent nuclear war with Russia.
My Grandma was convinced that Johnson ordered it.
From what has emerged over the years, all I can say with certainty is that there were a lot of people who for various reasons had motive, means, and opportunity. It was just a question of which one would do it first.
One thing is for sure, they couldn’t afford to let Oswald talk or go to trial. I saw Jack Ruby shoot him live on TV. Turned to my Dad, and said, we’ll never know now. Dad nodded, and said Yep.
I do lean toward the theory that whoever did it, also was behind the killing of Bobby, but there’s no way to know beyond a shadow of doubt.
There was a piece of video I saw years ago taken of LBJ on Air Force One when he is told Kennedy has died. Johnson doesn’t know there is a camera rolling and he gets this huge ebullient grin on his face a moment before he sees the camera and instantly puts on a more appropriate somber face. Johhnson knew and probably gave the Mob intel that let them succeed.
