I’ll bring them home, but only if they’re smoking hot. And make pork chile verde.

[Jack Kemp] specifically and exuberantly made the case that Hispanics belonged in the GOP. He passionately argued that the work ethic and entrepreneurialism of Mexican Americans is quintessentially American—and very Republican. He understood that our parents and grandparents came north for economic freedom, not more government. He recognized that Hispanics are inherently pro-life and very traditional in their principles and values.

Yes, and Kemp personally was also very good at communicating this. BTW, he was very white-bread himself, I think was brought up as a Christian Scientist in Southern California, and built a small business before going into politics. So the type of spokesman is not the problem: it's that we have to have a good message and a good, intelligent communicator to carry it, not just one of the "right" ethnic group.

The GOP has been systematically eliminating all these people because what the party prefers are...well, the old white guys who haven't had an idea for decades. They can't reach out, not because they're bigots, but because they are half-dead and have no ideas except what they think will benefit them in the short term. So how can they carry a message to anybody (including working class whites, who didn't vote for Romney either).

Republicans will gain 2 Hispanics and lose 4 of their base doing it.

I’ve had a crush on Rachel going back to when she was on “The Real World.” Unfortunately, one had to sit through those moments with those execrable and demented moonbat roommates of hers. We should’ve drafted her to run for Senator in Wisconsin. Now that poor state is saddled with a cretin to rival her ex-roommates in San Francisco. Maybe in 2018 she’ll have a go...

This is a really interesting article with some real concrete suggestions. It also points out that the GOP goes into hibernation after each election cycle and only torpidly stirs to life six months or so out from election day. The Rats meanwhile are always operating in battle mode and keeping the faithful reminded of who their daddy is.

Also this fascinating quote:

Mexican Americans raised in the ’50s and ’60s were encouraged to love America and to become a part of it. Post-’70s popular culture has had no such quaint aspirations. My parents instilled the American Dream in me, but over and over throughout my college years, I was told that America wasn’t the land of opportunity and that I needed government assistance and affirmative action to overcome the institutional barriers that were holding me back.
Today’s “dreamer” kids are steeped in a multicultural, bilingual public school curriculum that’s heavy on victimhood and light, if not altogether silent, on our Founding Fathers and the Constitution. A return to American history and civics in the classroom for all children, including ESL students, is imperative to righting this ship.

Latinos vote for Democrats for the same reason everyone who votes Democrat does; they love big government. It's a part of their culture.

Unless you're Cuban, you're coming from a culture that loves big powerful dictatorial governments. On the left you've got the beloved Peron, Chavez, or Castro regimes, but even on the right you've got Fujimori and Pinochet. Limited government and individual liberty are foreign concepts south of the border.

Hispanics in my Central California Coastal town have the American Dream. 87% of the births at the local hospital are to Hispanics on MediCal. 87% of the kids in the local schools are Hispanic and 87% of them are on the free lunch program. SSI for grandma, free day care for the kids, MediCal provided dental care, Section 8 housing, EBT card and monthly welfare checks. They already have the American Dream.

We must surrender the U.S. to the undocumented Hispanic hordes to save the U.S. I get it.

Suggesting of course that Americans of Hispanic descent are inveterate law-breakers. People never explain why they feeeeeeeeeeeeel that way.

Oh nevermind.. 1986 redux -- amnesty and open borders -- a.k.a., comprehensive "reform."

BTW, I remember Jack Kemp, Jeb Bush, and William Bennett out here screaming at Republicans for passing Prop 187 in 1994 -- 1994 also elected a Republican governor and Republican control of the Assembly for the first time in ages. About one-third of the voters were there voting just to "Save Our State."

The Republican Party of California followed Kemp's, et al advice and since the late 1990s, IIRC, they've won just three statewide elections.. two of them by SchwarzenKennedy

Hispanic Voters = Illegal Alien Amnesty

The GOP needs to get off their Fetish for Hispanics and Illegal Aliens, or they will keep losing more of their base

Get real GOP...or get Whig

I am afraid all this breast-beating over the Hispanics, moderates vs. conservatives, swing states, Reagan Democrats... blah, blah, blad is totally a waste of time. The GOP is finished unless it learns to get its hands dirty and do some serious street fighting. The base is in rapid retreat from all things RINO and DC and unlikely to every rally again without a real war cry, not more limp-wristed ‘analysis.’

Fine, I’m all for trying to get the message to Hispanics or any other “minority” voters. But I don’t expect great results. Probably the only way many will change their socialist ways is if the country goes through a deep depression. And if we keep electing people like Obama, that won’t too far in the future.

Great article!

Her words:

For too long, the party’s strategy has been to hire a few Beltway conservative Latinos six months before an election and call it “outreach.” What’s needed is permanent outreach at the grassroots levels between elections. Conservative Hispanic activists on the ground know that the GOP needs to take a few cues from successful groups like the far-left La Raza, which has made its mark by bringing public policy to the neighborhood level.

Not a chance. We have lost the Hispanic vote. (not suggesting that we change to get it). Look no further than CA to see it. on this, CA is absolutely a microcosm. We haven’t had the Hispanic vote since Prop 13 and never will. Anyone who thinks we can get it is fooling themselves terribly.

This is a deluded fantasy. The GOP is not going to win the “Hispanic Vote”. Here is the best strategy for GOP (and American) survival:
1. Put the military on the boder.
2. Cut off all benefits to illegals.
3. Deport, deport, deport.
4. Jail employers of illegals.
5. Close up the anchor baby loophole.
6. Cut down legal immigration to about 100,000 annually.
7. Make English the official language of government.
8. Abolish Affirmative Action.
If we did all this, we might have a chance.

Gee all of what she is saying sounds soooooo good. Hispanics are natural Republicans but they just don't know it. I'm sure the author believes this but in election after election the truth comes out. That truth is that 2 out of 3 Hispanics are NOT conservatives they are looking for free stuff PERIOD. They vote Democrat to get free stuff. We have not been remiss in telling them about conservatism. They have rejected conservatism. They proved to be like the Jews. Polls showed Jews moving toward the GOP but they were not telling the pollsters the truth. They care as little about Israel as the Hispanics that watched the Univison stories about Mexicans being killed by Fast and Furious guns care about Mexico. The Jews watched Obama cripple Israel's ability to save herself and shrugged. The Hispanics learned about Fast and Furious and shrugged. What is the difference? They both will vote Democrat - all be it for different reasons for ever. Sorry author but this just doesn't pan out in the real world of “free stuff over patriotism.”
