Propark America, which operates 31 parking garages and lots around New Haven, is laying off 186 employees in January.
The Hartford-based company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice Nov. 20 with the Connecticut Department of Labor. The notice indicates that the layoffs are scheduled to begin on Jan. 20 and does not indicate whether all of the employees are being laid off at once.
The WARN Act is a federal law requiring employers of 100 or more full-time workers to give 60 days advance notice of a plant closing or mass layoff...

From now on, whenever I hear of layoffs and plant closings in blue states I will grin like Liberace and say, “I hope you like your new country......You voted for it!”.................

When it comes to my family and the America I grew up in, I am very vindictive. I would love to see all the deep blue states and their citizens fall into bankruptcy, chaos, and despair. Screw them.
I'm right with you, LH. This is nothing less than war. And in war, it is imperative that you HATE the enemy, almost to a frenzy. You cannot win otherwise. (see my tag line.)
This is going to be deeply problematic for the employers down the road if this is their strategy. 1099 "contractors" must meet very specific IRS criteria - you can't just make an employee a "contractor" with a magic wave of your wand because there are certain perks you want to avoid.
Not saying any of this protectionism isn't right, I'm just pointing to the fine line of prosecution they are walking.
