Representative Hank Johnson (D-Ga) demanded that the US Constitution be amended to strip businesses of their right to oppose government actions they deem detrimental to their interests. Johnson says that under his proposed amendment the government would be authorized to block the airing of opinions that would tend to undermine the governments efforts to achieve a more socially just society.
Im not saying that freedom of speech is a totally bad idea, Johnson said. Individuals shouldnt be prohibited from expressing their preference for, say, chocolate over vanilla or football over baseball. However, when it comes to issues that affect how this country is governed the airing of uncooperative views can throw a monkey wrench into our policy making decision apparatus.
Johnson was particularly incensed by businesses trying to persuade voters against the enactment of regulations for public benefit and rich people trying to prevent us from accomplishing a fairer distribution of the nations wealth. These corporations, these fat cats have the resources to buy ads on TV that could turn voters against progressive policies. We shouldnt let out-dated attachment to free speech impede the march of history.

In a couple of years, there is going to be a strong push for this.

It’s hard to satirize this guy. He’s the same genius who asked a general if Okinawa would tip over if we put too much equipment there.
First take away free speech.... Then our guns... Then our freedom.
Most likely we will sit there and let them.
I agree. With ideas like his, I propose the first person to be muzzled is Hank Johnson.
Like those Marines flipping over Guam hassle Hank too.
It’ll be much sooner than that.
I thought it was Guam??
Im not saying that freedom of speech is a totally bad idea, Johnson said...................
???????? What planet does this guy live on any way? Is he a true American, born and raised here? Does he not understand the how and the why of the American Rebolution? Apparently not!
“...shouldnt be prohibited from expressing their preference for, say, chocolate over vanilla or football over baseball. However, when it comes to issues...”
that have impact on people’s lives....
Was old George Orwell wrong about anything besides the date?
And that about sums it up.
Well, no sh!t Sherlock! Yet another 'Democrat' proving yet again that the rats are totalitarian in their outlook on life. Pray for America- this detritus has America by the b*!!s for the next two years and we have boner to defend us.
Where’s this asshole been for the last 20 years? That ship has sailed; freedom of speech has been curtailed in America for decades.
I wonder if this air head thought the people that gave us freedom of speech cared much about chocolate vs. vanilla...or was it political speech they wanted to be free?
This idiot should immediately be baniished to Siberia.
Sounds realistic to me
:)
The media will rush to bury this bit of honesty from the befuddled congressional Democrat, Hank Johnson, and I give it 24 hours before he issues a 'clarification' of his anti-constitutional proposal. I expect he'll be walking it back at top speed any minute now as the media tells us to ignore it.
You are correct. My bad.
Its kinda sad the the citizens are such a burden to the Government. But for then pesky nuisance of liberty life would be so much better for them.
Their bad ideas need all the oppositions that can be mustered on them ! Getting to the point where the only free speech that will be allowed is speech that agrees with the party line.
The Mayflower?
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^
He was sworn in to uphold the constitution of the U.S.. Congress should impeach him for breaking his oath or stating that he wants to. Congress need to stop pussy footing around and start getting tough.
John, ya almost got me!
It looks to me like Orwell was 40years early.
I had it and lost it.
He’s actually pushing to amend the Constitution.
What pisses me off is that people like this might get their wish.
A few years ago I would never have believed I’d be looking at most of what is going on right now.
It is Obamaland. :(
They aren’t going to amend the Constitution, how many states would pass this thing?
Well, that’s not sufficiently improbable to be satire, John...

NSA Whistleblower: Everyone in US under virtual surveillance, all ...
You see, once you upset them, they simply “investigate” you, until they find something to blow out of proportion.
This 12 minute interview is worth watching to the end.
Obviously this a**clown has never read the Constitution he swore under oath to uphold and defend as a member of Congress. The US is rapidly turning into a clone of the former communist East Germany.
Another brain dead congress critter, elected by a flat lined constituency; both of whom have never read the Constitution and if any of them have, they were incapable of understanding anything beyond single syllable words.
Another good one John.
sarcastic reply !
he is being perfectly rational based on his marxist world view. It appears quite brazen but now that they see that socialism itself was not rejected in the last election they are empowered to go to the next level. all we have between them and us are RINOs and a few ineffective conservatives
Nope....just to the “heavy end” of Guam....

I shudder to think how anyone could vote for this confirmed idiot!
Dissent is patriotic.
While I know this is satire, this Congressman would be the first to do as this article says. And I don’t have to guess what party or what race we’re talking about. I sad that today when you hear of some clown calling for the most rabid of Communist measures, that person is more than likely black. How did we get here? The descendants of slaves want to enslave the entire American continent.
?? It’s in the header of article, the type of thread!! Simmer down!
Damn! Infighting!
Two years ago, I was listening to the same arguments about Healthcare.
You mean we have freedom of speech now?
Right on! The “They can’t do that” crowd will sit on their collective butts doing nothing but repeating their motto of they can’t do that over and over just as they did when Zippie confiscated GM bonds for the UAW, gave control of Chrysler to Fiat and closed GM dealers—principally those owned by Republican donors! The 47% are in control of the government and are not likely to give it up even when we become Greece.
