Cook Co Obamacare to start for uninsured adults January 1

COOK COUNTY - Starting January 1, Cook County will be one of the nation's first counties to immerse itself in Obamacare after the General Assembly agreed earlier this year to request a special federal advance. The desired waiver would help to bail out Illinois' most populated county budget overwhelmed with health care costs.

The feds agreed to kick Cook County in to the Obamacare system ahead of the rest of the nation to pay for adults 18 through 65 not covered by Family Care or Medicaid that are childless, not handicapped, not making more than 133 percent over the poverty level or not covered by their employers' plan. Cook County suggests there's nearly 100,000 that fit that description living in their jurisdiction. They hope the federal government stepping in will save half of the county's bill for providing health care for the uninsured.

The waiver on the program's application explains how CountyCare will work:

I'm going to bet all single females, and other “persons color” will be getting a special exemption from paying the fine.

Mayor Emmanuel will be the first to inaugurate Obamacare and Illinois taxpayers will once again fund Cook County.

Illinois laying off 18 medical regulators
Agency asking for cash infusion and fee increase
By Patrick Yeagle
-
Seven state workers in Springfield could lose their jobs at the end of the year as regulators scramble to cover the increasing cost of overseeing doctors in Illinois. That’s because the fund that pays for doctor regulation and discipline is expected to dry up this month, forcing the layoff of 18 regulatory workers total in Springfield and Chicago.

After those layoffs, only eight workers would be left to regulate the tens of thousands of doctors currently licensed to practice in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations, which regulates doctors and numerous other trades in Illinois, currently has 26 workers devoted to licensing, investigating and prosecuting doctors. Seven workers in Springfield could be laid off at the end of the year, along with 11 in Chicago.

The entire department is funded by licensing fees paid by the professionals it regulates, but DFPR says the fees for doctors aren’t high enough to cover the cost of regulating.

“We just can’t maintain current staff levels,” said Susan Hofer, spokeswoman for DFPR. The department wants state lawmakers to increase the licensing fee for doctors, which hasn’t increased since 1987. “Things cost more money now. We have to pay more than we did in 1987 and we’ve had additional responsibilities put on the department.”

While DFPR pushes for higher fees, the Illinois State Medical Society says higher fees could drive new doctors out of Illinois.

Might as well get in and get free health care before everyone else make it go bankrupt

I wish they would REQUIRE all 100% of Obamacare to go into effect right now

Let them see what they voted for

Wasn’t Michelle O actively involved in the health care movement in Chicago?

Again and again I have been told to move to Iowa to rid my family of increasing taxation and no hope whatsoever of ridding the state of Democratic control.

Every election from here out will be about the Repubs trying to take away your "free" healthcare (pushing granny in a wheelchair over a cliff and about the Dems trying to give you more healthcare.
