I plan for Foot Reconstruction Surgery, bunionectomies too

I am against ObamaCare, due mainly to it's uninvited intrusiveness into the well being of every American presently born, and then some. At the same time, I will say there are instances when it is appropriate to take and utilize government services, especially when one has been an employee of the government at some time in their life.

That said, I am so glad to have health insurance through the govt. I served in the Navy back in the Carter/Reagan years. I began on a wooden (yes, wooden!) Minesweeper in Charleston South Carolina, 174 feet in length, and finished my active time on The Enterprise, in Alameda, California, a recently retired aircraft carrier. When I was a sailor, health insurance (how "boring")was less than the last thing on my mind. It is not totally free, as W could see it was too expensive to remain completely free for life. I can afford the co-pay.

This year of 2012 has been a time of learning how to deal with chronic pain. Starting on January 10th, 2012, and every day since then, I began having what felt like a sprained left ankle. That pain was soon joined by other thorny impressions whenever I stood or walked a great distance. After much testing by the doctors and complaining by me, I had a diagnosis; it was'nt cancer, thank God, but I have what is called Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction, Well now! That was going to be my second guess.

After recieving custom made shoe cushions, simlilar to Dr. Scholls, after receiving Physical Therapy exercises, after receiving wrap around ankle supports, I am ready to go radical. My Navy Podiatrist is referring me to a Orthopedic Foot Surgeon. I believe they will consider a procedure called MBA- Arthroereisis, where tiny implants of titanium are inserted in certain areas of the foot so as to reduce my flat feet tendancy to pronate, or to bend inward as I walk. I also hope to get bunionectomies on each foot. The buinions themselves are unsightly, but do not hurt in and of themselves. My problem with the bunions is they make my feet so wide and oddly shaped that it is almost impossible to find shoes that fit. When I must but new shoes, I have become used to the long, long break in period. I where tight shoes for weeks until the leather finally softens and conforms to the shape of my big flat bunioned, clownlike feet. This a also hope to change. The bunion op may have to wait a few months after the MBA implants I guess. I don't want to miss to much work. Oh, I hope they use lots and lots of anesthetic! I'm not ashamed to ask for it either.

Anyone else have a similar experience or know of the healing times? This is not yet scheduled at all, may not occur till, what? Easter or thereabouts.

You must’ve been in about the time I was. Remember how much things changed after President Reagan had been in office for awhile? Of course President Carter looks like President Teddy Roosevelt compared to Mr. Obama!

When not have the bunions taken care of first before the implants.

I had bunion surgery a few years ago. Do not walk, only to the bathroom. My doctor told me to make a nest at my bed with all I would need: water snacks, reading material, remote, etc. I did this and the healing was fast and fine. Good luck.

My wife had bunion surgery on both feet, inside and outside, over the course of two years. Left foot both sides, then right foot both sides, then screws & pins out left, then screws & pins out right.

Lots of time in a walking boot, but now she’s fine and pain is mostly gone.

Her advice:
1) Don’t walk for about a week after the surgery, but after that you can hobble around in the boot.
2) She swears by Dansko shoes. They’re ugly as hell, but last forever and your feet will thank you. They’re not cheap, but she has never worn a pair out. Her first pair still looks as good as new and they’re 8 years old.
