Great writeup-really explains in detail all you need to know about what is going on in Syria. Much better than most of the crap the MSM produces.
Looking at the map, the Sunni part of the country would have no access to the Mediterranean. I don’t know how they would allow that. I’m afraid for Lebanon again. Now they have to worry about 3 Syrian neighbours instead of just 1!
And what is wrong with a Syria broken up into Alawite, Druze and other sectors?
The smaller and weaker they are, they less power Al Qaeda and the Islamists have, and the more ability to keep them all off balance, no?
Dividing Iraq into parts, at least creating an independent Kurdistan, had some merit when hind-sight is applied. Was Slow Joe right? Hard to tell since Obama abandoned Iraq early on.
Sounds like the location of the Russian naval base in a former Alawite “independent” state during the French mandate was a consideration when the Russians got it.
While this report has lots of charges we still don’t know who the players are. There must be other means to get info about what is going on over there. Wonder about Catholic/Christian reaction/resources same with the Druze or better yet Jewish sources..
Arab news sources are cans of crawly things. Lota work hard to get insights and intelligence from MSM. Thanks for the map and background
Does anyone know what came of the reporting last week that the Syrian government was mixing chemicals to install into the missile warheads in anticipation of firing them off when things came to a head?
In the meantime, the country’s top officials and army officers have formed an Alawite-dominated security council to manage the war and -now it appears- slowly extract officials, their families, and as many regime assets as possible so as to relocate them in the mountainous Alawi areas in the north-west of the country- all perhaps in preparation for a new Alawite mini-state north of Lebanon, on the Mediterranean coast .
