This seven minute video from the New York Times shows the story of Chris Williams in Montana. This makes me really glad that I wrote in Ron Paul for President in 2008, and voted for Libertarian Gary Johnson in 2012. I also applaud Green Party candidate Jill Steins position on this issue.
For those of you who voted for Obama, well, I hope youre happy with his actions against medical marijuana. I hope youre happy that this person could get life in prison. I hope youre happy that people with AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, and other illnesses, who have prescriptions for medical marijuana from their doctors, are being denied the medicine that they need.

Oops! I did not mean to check of the “excerpt” box.
I have a problem with Obama being against Marijuana.
The Choom lord of Hawaii who smoked it like it was free and by all explanations used to Bogard the joint. A man who used Cocaine and is against Marijuana?
Doesn’t make much sense does it, but then not much of anything Obama does makes sense.
Taking illegal drugs to escape reality is cowardice, and we don’t need more cowards in this country.
I can sympathize with a pothead who feels betrayed by O.
Just know that better men have been betrayed by him too.
Agree 10,000% !
Why did the sheriffs (who supposedly supported Williams) let in the feds??!
Obama and his drug czar will always appreciate support from “conservatives.”
Why?
Medical marijuana may be illegal at the Federal level, but THC pills can be prescribed by a doctor.
Let me tell you how insane the WOD really is:
I broke my back several years ago. I have had a massive spinal surgery to correct the damage. I am in intense amounts of pain. Pain that is obvious on any MRI, x-ray or CT scan. There is no doubt of this in any medical expert’s eyes.
We recently moved from the state of Texas. I found out, right before we moved, that my family had been at risk of prison many times over.
See, the possession of so many Vicodin is a federal offense in the state of Texas. (Don’t ask me how it’s a ‘federal offense’ in Texas, but not in Arizona. That’s just the way it is.) Every time my husband picked up my prescription, he was breaking the law by transporting it back to our home. Until I was two weeks into my prescription, our home was a site of criminal activity. We had no idea. I’m not a drug abuser, I’m a woman with a broken back. I don’t take more than I’m prescribed and I suffer between doses. If anything, I’m *under* medicated.
My doctors were breaking the law by prescribing me so many Vicodin. I had hell just trying to find a new doctor after my old one left medicine.
Now that I’m in AZ, under the care of the military system, I just found out that they’re not authorized to prescribe anything stronger than Vicodin at low doses. When I was passing kidney stones, I had to go to the civilians for pain relief.
You know the adage, “It’s better a hundred guilty men go free than one innocent man be imprisoned”? Well, it’s better that a 1000 stoners get high than one suffering person be denied relief.
I am very bitter that Roe v Wade applies only to a woman killing her unborn child, but not to the dr/patient confidentiality when it comes to pain.
Right ... so let's repeal the laws that make them illegal. Problem solved.
How ‘bout taking drugs to escape bone-shattering pain?? Is that ‘cowardly’ to you??
Don't even bother.I worked for 20 years in the ER of a large hospital located in a major city.I know what drugs are all about.I've seen the devastation more times than I care to recall.Sounds like you need a better doctor.
Jus' sayin' ...
There are instances where it could be beneficial medically and in those cases, MS, CA, chronic pain I would say it should be allowed with strict regulations.
But the tide is turning and it will be legal soon enough. I think there will be problems with that. Its kind of similar to alcohol..Prohibition had serious problems and we still have problems when it is legal.
Having said all that, its really all political and there’s a lot ofmoney in drugs, whether you keep them ‘illegal” or turn them “legal”..and its not just the cartels...just like during prohibition ( politicians, local cops).
I’m sorry, Marie, that is horrible.
Funny how most major cancer and other organizations are against legalizing medical marijuana and have dismissed the so called “miracle” aspects of the drug as nothing.
No, what she needs is for do-gooders to stop hurting the innocent while “saving” evil people from themselves.
Every person who took dope that ended up in your hospital put themselves there. Marie does not deserve to suffer in pain because junkies can’t control themselves.
My wife is a personal trainer. She has seen first hand what a sedentary lifestyle coupled with poor eating habits does to people.
The differences between my wife’s scenario and yours are: 1. More people suffer and die from being sedentary and eating crap than from dope, 2. poor diet and lack of exercise costs us far more in healthcare costs than illegal dope and 3. my wife hasn’t made herself such a do-gooder that she’ll send you to prison for eating McDonalds . . . and there is no medical reason to eat McDonalds.
As Hank Williams said, “Mind your own business and you won’t be minding mine.”
Like I said...it sounds like "Marie" needs a better doctor.
You hit on something there. With pain medicine, I can function. I do my physical therapy. I can MOVE. I can control my diet.
Without pain medication, I’m sitting my chair, in agony. I’m punished for every attempt to get better. I’m eating carbs to feed the stress reaction and sleep deprivation.
Sometimes I feel like I’m being punished for being a WOD nazi. I was the anti-drug queen.
Then reality hit and I realized that I didn’t know what the hell I’d been preaching about. I’d thought that I knew what pain was.
I didn’t.
“Like I said...it sounds like “Marie” needs a better doctor.”
Please, explain to me how a ‘better doctor’ could help me. Seriously, I’m all ears.
While you’re at it, you can explain to me how a ‘better doctor’ could’ve helped my grandfather stop screaming for six straight weeks as he slowly died in agony from pancreatic cancer.
Obama opposes medical marijuana and legalized marijuana for one reason, and one reason only. Like Bill Clinton, he gets a kickback from the Mexican drug cartels, and legalization hurts their business.
In other words, he only disapproves of legal drugs. He loves illegal drugs, just like he loves illegal immigrants, because he profits by them. And, of course, the feds can still arrest an occasional illegal drug user if they feel in the mood to do so. Just as long as it’s not a cartel member!
“...people with AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, and other illnesses, who have prescriptions for medical marijuana...”
I read a study that said that 3% of people with a cronic illness use medical majijuana and 92% take prescribed pharmaceuticals.
Why is it then that within a 4 block radius of my house (North Hollywood CA) there are 12 “dispensaries” yet only 1 drug store?
Zer0 is what an 0bama promise is worth.
I am extremely sorry.
I’ve never even tried illegal dope. I’m just not interested. The ban has seen an erosion of our rights to the point where the police can take and sell our personal property with no evidence. We spend billions to keep the stuff off our streets. Criminals are making billions anyway and no one has limited access to the stuff. To make matters worse, more devastating drugs have been invented so that they can be fabricated without crossing borders. I don’t want ANYONE to use this crap, but I can’t stop someone from doing it to themselves. God gave us free will. That is a reality.
God bless you and I pray for a way for you to cope with your pain.
Now wait a minute. I’ve never tried illegal “dope” either.
I was the ANTI-DRUG NAZI QUEEN of all time for decades.
I take my PRESCRIBED medications in the PRESCRIBED dosages at the PRESCRIBED times. Even if I’m in agony, I don’t cheat and take a pill early.
NEVER.
As the drug nazi queen, I always thought that this was for the ‘other’. The ‘druggies’. People who said, “my back hurts” and have no physical tests to prove otherwise.
I have found that the WOD applies to people dying (and I mean literally DYING) of cancer, people with broken backs, people with MS... it DOESN’T matter. If you have a dozen doctors and a hundred tests confirming that YOU ARE IN PAIN, the WOD will prevent you from getting pain relief.
I have never taken pot. But I know that my grandfather’s doctor tried to give it to him when he was dying of pancreatic cancer. It would’ve made him more comfortable with chemo, helped with the nausea and lessened his pain.
People who’re healthy cannot possibly understand how much life can suck when you’re broken.
Why in hell are we so worried about saving druggies from themselves that we’re willing to slit the throats of people who’re genuinely suffering???
Let Darwin’s Law pick off the druggies and help those in need of pain relief.
Just curious, why have you not tried marijuana to see if it offers you any relief for your pain? I don’t know that it would, but I know that after having torn both my quadriceps tendons five years apart, and once relying on vicodin and oxycodone and once relying mostly on marijuana, I had much more relief from the pain and fewer side effects with the marijuana. It was also much easier to stop using when the pain was no longer there.
Nope. Never tried it.
And I don’t dare.
See, as a ‘pain patient’ I am treated as a criminal. I have to take a urinalysis every month and prove that I’m not a drug abuser. My levels can’t be too high or have THC in them or I’m an abuser. If my levels are too low, then I’m obviously selling my pills for money and I’m a dealer.
I take exactly what I’m prescribed on the dot.
What makes me sick is that I see 80 year old ladies with crippling arthritis and spinal issues treated the same way in the waiting room.
This is what happens when the government thinks they know what’s best for all of us.
You know what else makes me angry?
Every time this subject comes up on FR, the anti-drug nazis come out of the closet.
As soon as *I* pipe up with my personal situation, they shut up. The argument goes away.
They NEVER admit they’re wrong and the same people pop up on the next WOD thread, but they back down on THIS thread.
In every aspect of right-wing thought, we allow failures. (Don’t save the person who’s made bad personal life-choices.) But not drug addicts.
For some reason, THOSE people should be protected by the power of BIG government. Even if it means that people dying in agony suffer.
But try to regulate BACON, soda sizes or smoking...
Inconsistent JERKS.
I had no idea you would be subjected to urinalysis on such a constant basis just because you have chronic pain. I’m very sorry to hear that. I don’t know what I would do in your situation, outside of trying to find a doctor that was sympathetic to marijuana use.
You are a friggin’ jerk. I’ve dealt with pompous Aholes like you during my bouts with chronic pain issues. You need a different career, something better qualified to your talents...perhaps shoveling stalls at a Thoroughbred Horse Ranch.
I am so sorry about your predicament, Marie. Living in constant pain has to be a hell on earth. It must zap any energy... both physical and mental from you. Don’t worry about the anti-drug freepers. Chances are they haven’t been in your shoes or seen someone die in agony. I’ve said this before (much to the dismay and shock of some), that I considered buying marijuana when my Mother was dying from pancreatic cancer. To see a once beautiful woman... unable to eat was heart breaking. I could literally check on her in the morning and by evening.. she as smaller, more frail and weak. A good eating day consisted of two gingersnap cookies and some water. Day in, day out. The only problem is that I didn’t have any idea in the world where to get it; however, I would have purchased it in a minute if it could have helped her.
Prayers for you and relief of your pain. You are a good person and I admire that you are able to educate us of your condition and post when you can. Hugs, Mom
The first paragraph of this addle brained Libertarian’s article shows just how ignorant he is. He’s just as culpable for Zero being in office as the people he scolds in the second paragraph. He needs to look closer at a mirror and understand how voting works.
Taking illegal drugs to escape reality is cowardly. People who take illegal drugs to escape reality are cowards.
Taking illegal drugs to escape from reality is cowardly. People who take illegal drugs to escape reality are cowards. Show me one culture where cowardice is valued.
Nope. Taking illegal drugs to escape reality is cowardly. People who take illegal drugs to escape reality are cowards. Show me a single culture that honors cowardice. I have had morphine. Marijuana would not be a substitute.
I’m so sorry about your mom.
I understand completely. You jump off your high horse with a quickness when someone you love is is pain.
Both of my children made contacts in highschool to help me out. I made them both back off and they were very upset with me. They just wanted to help and I wouldn’t let them risk their future so that I could have a few hours of relief.
Trust me, your mom is alright with your intentions.
I think that, for me, the worst part is being nothing more than a lump in the lives of the people I love. My pain has to come first in everything. I can’t be depended on. I can’t be counted on. I can’t even trust myself to carry through with the most basic things.
What pisses me off is what happens when I *DO* get pain relief. Suddenly I can clean. I can get off the couch. I can laugh and enjoy my family and function like a normal human being.
And then I see where my life COULD be if I had help. Not a half-life lived, but a whole woman with everything to give her family.
Modern medicine can’t FIX me. I’m unfixable. I’m broken.
But it could give me a quality of life if the LAW would just allow it.
I find your statement funny......because I don't see anywhere in the Constitution of these United States where the .fedgov has the authority to make any type of narcotic legal or illegal.
I see where they can raise an Army, I see where they can coin money, I see where they can regulate interstate commerce.......but I'm still not seeing where the authority to make marijuana illegal is enumerated. I looked for the Amendment making marijuana illegal, but couldn't find it. Which one was it again?
I do see under the 10th Amendment where such matters are left to the states.
Montana also has a law on the books (recently passed) that basically states any firearm, or firearm accessory manufactured in the state of Montana that remains in the state of Montana is not interstate commerce and therefore is not subject to federal firearms laws and .fedgov can stick it up where the sun never shines.
Nahhhhh, who am I kidding? We don't need those pesky Bill of Rights anyway. /s
Alright. I agree with you.
People who take illegal drugs to escape reality are cowards.
And where in the Constitution does it give the government the right to keep people from behaving cowardly?
Where in the Constitution does it give the government the right to protect a person from their own cowardice?
People who abuse alcohol to escape reality are cowards....
How is the government obliged to protect them from themselves?
Then someone should take that issue to the courts.Who knows what might happen!
Anyone who uses illegal drugs to escape reality is a coward. Show me one culture that values cowardice.
Why do you keep stressing ‘to escape reality’...?
You never once address chronic pain.
You never once address where it’s the government’s responsibility to keep people from being ‘cowards’.
