University of Michigan student protesters demand tuition equality for illegal immigrants
Ann Arbor News, ^ | Dec 13, 2012 | Kellie Woodhouse

With red tape over their mouths, roughly 100 University of Michigan students wearing maize T-shirts pushed their chairs aside and sat on the ground during a Board of Regents meeting Thursday.

The students were silently protesting against current tuition practices at the university, which don't offer illegal immigrants who attended Michigan high schools in-state tuition. For more than a year, a large group of students have petitioned U-M for tuition equality.

"What's happening isn't right. Undocumented students unfairly have a barrier," said John D'Adamo, a U-M junior and a member of the U-M Coalition for Tuition Equality who protested during the 4 p.m. regents meeting. "They're often discouraged from coming to the University of Michigan."

Tuition equality would allow illegal immigrants who attended Michigan high schools to attend the college for in-state rates, which are $12,994 for underclassmen this year. Currently, illegal immigrants would pay $39,122, the out-of-state rate for underclassmen.

They want illegal invaders to pay less for college than someone from Wisconsin or Illinois.

Think about that “equality” thang

Why don’t Chip and Muffy just pick up the tab for the difference for their illegal alien pals. I don’t know why the hell they want the American taxpayers to pay for it.

All I can say is that if one of my kids were involved in a stunt like that, he can finance his own education. I’d be through.

But, of course, I spanked my kids when they were little, so I don’t have to worry about behavior like that.

I admit that I did not read the article. How about the students collect donations or funds from their parents to assist those in need?

Sorry.
I get the Atlas Shrugged dry heaves whenever I see those three words: "Those in need."

Or raise their tuition to offset the additional costs of the illegal aliens.

We could fix this in a hurry if we just eliminated all taxpayer funding. Then they could let whoever they want pay whatever they want.

We can call it “Right to College”.

Isn’t Obamaland great?

Now go pay your taxes. Someone needs to obey the law. :)

If they actually wanted equality they’d demand the illegals be kicked out of the country. That’s equality under the law.

It took years, years, for the University of Michigan to classify me as an in-state student. My recollection is hazy, but it might have finally classified me as such after I graduated.

Why not flood the place with illegals and tell these protesting students that the place is full and can’t accept their applications?

The state can eliminate all the kvetching by simply abolishing in-state tuition.

in looking through these issues last Spring i could not help but notice that state funding is getting mighty thin for even the top state schools.

A lot of the state involvement goes no further than operating and repairing the buildings with all the academic costs being offloaded on the tuition paying students. It looks like foreign and out of state students paying out of state tuition are subsidizing instate qualifying students.

Speaking of college towns, I hope everyone noticed the lack of college students at the Capitol in Lansing this week.

MSU is considerably more conservative than UofM.

More proof, as if we needed any, that the parasites who have never paid any net income taxes, and probably never will, will support any and all expenditure of taxes paid for by the working citizens who DO pay lots of net taxes.

Until that irritating 14th Amendment is suddenly "rediscovered."

Neither Congress nor the president nor individuals can create 'exceptions' which pretend to make "inequality" equal.

Give them what they want BUT charge everybody whatever it cost to educate a student at this college per semester hour. No subsidies.

As these criminals are not citizens of the State nor even this Country why would the school allow then to attend at rates reserved for citizens of that state??

The unconstitutional quota system remains in effect at U of M, because its administrators are above the law. BTW Johnetta, that's not "undocumented students", that's "illegal aliens" iow, criminals. But I'm 100% in favor of your giving up your spot to one of them, since you are a parasite, and the "illegal" probably actually earns a living.
