Mass Killings Stopped by Armed Citizens
Gun Watch ^ | 16 December, 2012 | Dean Weingarten

There are several documented cases where armed citizens have stopped mass attacks by gunmen. Let me list a few: The Pearl, Mississippi school shooting was stopped by the vice principal Joel Myrick with a Colt .45, The Appalachian School shooting was stopped by two students with handguns. Both of the above incidents were stopped by the armed citizens threatening the shooter without firing.

Appalacian Law School Link

Plans to slay everyone in the Muskegon, Michigan, store and steal enough cash and jewelry to feed their "gnawing hunger for crack cocaine" fell apart for a band of would-be killers after one of their victims fought back.

The mass church shooting in Colorado Springs was stopped by the shooter being shot by a church member with a CCW permit.

The Santa Clara gunshop shooting in 1999 was stopped by an armed citizen after the shooter declared that he was going to kill everyone. Police found a list of intended victims in his car. Only the perpetrator, Richard Gable Stevens was shot.

The December, 1991, Aniston, Alabama defense where a CCW holder stopped armed robbers who were herding employees, customers, and his wife into a cooler. He shot both robbers, killing one.

July 13, 2009, in Virginia at the Golden Food Market: The gunman tried to shoot several people, was stopped by a CCW carrier.

Just recently, in Early Texas, armed citizen Vic Stacy shot and stopped a deranged man who had just murdered two neighbors and was firing at police with a rifle. Stacy made a very long shot with his revolver, three times as far as the perpetrator was from the police officer, who had an AR-15 type rifle.

That sounds like a very good story... but it never made the national news.

I wonder who made the decision to spike that story.

Of course, when a mass shooting is stopped by an armed citizen, there are not as many victims. This leads to the charge that it would not really have been a “mass shooting”.

Sauce for the goose! ... We who carry legally should have these stories tucked awy in our memory banks, so when the twisted freak liberal progressives demand more gun control (read banning of defensive handguns, shotguns, and rifles) we can cite the usefulness of said defensive tools.

To: marktwain; All
the GUN_CONTROL PATROL - from the Pres. on down - hit the airwaves while those little bodies were still in the school!("Never let a crisis go to waste" on steroids)

How about MENTAL HEALTH control? These tragedies started after the mental health hospitals closed and put the mentally sick loose on the public - and treatment of choice is Prozac, etc, - these shooters have almost 100% been on Prozac and related drugs, which have a PROVEN side effect of suicide and violence.!

Yet none of these sleazy politicians mention we need more control and treatment over the mentally ill - and who triggered turning the mentally ill loose on the public? Pres. Jimmy Carter. - which is another reason it's never mentioned. If these mental cases can't get a gun, they use other means - like pipe bombs... It's not the guns. I remember when the mental hospitals were closed - and mentally sick couldn't be committed without THEIR permission! That's like saying the drunk driver can't be arrested without their permission.

post this link everywhere and anywhere you can - There are not many people today who know or remember why the mentally ill not only don't get the treatment THEY need, but who explode with such violence on the Innocent.

Be careful about that Carter posting. We got rid of most of the funding for the programs to treat mentally ill under Reagan, including that federal program for community mental health treatment. And frankly I don’t want the government funding more mental health projects like Carter tried to do. It’s a huge boondoggle of government expenditure to house and/or treat them. We block granted it and cut the funding to the states. So it’s up to the states to fund this stuff and if they don’t want to do it, so be it. I know this was a lot of kids but this is the price we pay. It’s not all that high on a yearly average, only about 10k people or so.
