Having been a member of Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) for several years, I utilized the discontinued feature that allowed for recommending films to friends and family. Surprisingly, it went beyond expectations as it essentially made every aspect of one's rental queue available to those invited into a customers friends list.

I subscribed to Netflix to watch movies, not to see what movies other people wanted to see. First they split the DVD-by-mail off from the streaming video and effectively doubled the price. Then, the streaming content was reduced to the point where you needed to speak Thai, Mandarin, or a variety of Scandanavian languages to watch anything without a subtitle. Needless to say, I cancelled my subscription several months ago. Turning it into Facebook will NOT lure me back!
Especially since Netflix just lost another mass of subscribers as they ‘accidentally’ locked out every Windows Media Center customer for 4 days, blaming it on Microsoft. That's ok, for those customers that didn't leave, they gave them a special rate for adding on DVD subscriptions - BluRay subscriptions for a month for free, following months less than half off the prevailing rate.
Oh, right, Netflix is poised for a gain...of debt.
I wasn’t pleased with the “Quickster” debacle either. The thing about Netflix “watch now” that is nice is that I too cancel my subscription from time to time but there’s no “re-connection fee” as with cable and utility services. So it is month to month. You can take a break for a while, come back - and it saves your old queue when you come back. And it is easy to cancel online and restart (unlike with some web based companies who deliberately make canceling torture).
Despite the imperfections of NFLX, I have tried the other options like Amazon, YouTube & Hulu and they all BLOW compared to Netflix.
I made that logical mistake years ago. One of my only 2 recs about which I was wrong in my 17 years in the business was shorting Amazon.
I seriously doubted Bezos and could not get past the lack of barriers to entry on the prosaic business model of selling crap on the Internet. As it turned out, the critical mass they had and the manner in which they operate and facilitate transactions (like ebay) kept loyalty and growth for many years. They executed well.
The funny thing was that I closed out my short position (Put options) with a 30% gain in the short term and never re-engaged. So I got lucky.
I believe Netflix will continue to make the right deals (as with Disney) and continue to grow, defying the doubters. We shall see.

Agree. I, too, was a subscriber until they split the DVD and jacked up rates.
Have not been back since. They promised more great titles on the streaming side, but have never delivered.
Our family became netflix subscribers about 9 mos. ago. I’m STILL THRILLED with it. Granted, there are some movies I wish were streaming that are DVD-only, but for the price, and the fact that it streams through our Wii, or on any of our comps via internet is great, too.
Don’t understand what people were complaining about regarding all the foreign movies and such. I do think that their customer interface could be better - instead of changing up what they recommend based on your last movie actually let the customers see ALL of their choices.
Not sure I’ll ever use a FB application. Usually people just post in a status when they watch a good movie or documentary. No need to make it an actual application...

Did you sign up after the split? Because if you didn’t, then you used to have streaming as part of that $15. Now you pay $13 for two at a time, and would have to pay another $8 for streaming.
I’ve had Netflix for several years now and enjoy it. I get one DVD at a time, and also have live streaming via a Roku box my son bought me for Christmas a couple of years ago. For me, it’s still a good deal, and I’ll probably never live long enough to watch all the movies/TV programs in my “instant queue.” I don’t do any social networking either, so that option isn’t something I would bother with.
That's not been my experience. I've found a ton of new streaming videos lately. The Jesse Stone movies come immediately to mind, but I've found literally hundreds more movies and TV episodes I like in the past few weeks. For me, Netflix is one of the best services I've ever signed up for.

I have enjoyed watching them.
It is incredibly annoying to be in the middle of watching a series and to have it just disappear from the Netflix lineup. Even a little warning would make it easier to stand.
Try using instantwatcher.com to check for new arrivals and deletions for Netflix.

I have watched and enjoyed televison crime series from the UK, Sweden and Denmark.
Wallender, George Gently, The Eagle, etc. Movies “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy in Swedish—better than Daniel Craig.
I am fine with subsitles. Like them in fact, since I’m a slightly hearing impaired, UK dialects/slang, etc.
NetFlix streaming is great! At $8/month, it’s the best entertainment value out there.

Very good customer service. I agree on that. But, the streaming content is pathetic. But as a streaming customer, I pay for content, not for customer service so I can’t agree that it is a great company.
