Now that the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department is on record that it told NBC News not to use the high capacity magazine in its segment with Wayne LaPierre, the big media is paying attention and taking this seriously.
TMZ is running interference claiming that NBC News was told by ATF that the D.C. Police said it was okay, but the D.C. Police say they were asked directly by NBC News for permission and that permission was denied.
The NY Times actually has a sensible and informative story on it:

Arrest him. No more excuses.
Hey, at ease, maggots! The rules do not apply to your betters. Back to work!!
ATTENTION, CITIZENS OF THE NATIONS’ CAPITOL:
The laws of this country will no longer be enforced in your area! Carry on.
People should be phoning the DC police and asking why he hasn’t been arrested. The man committed a crime on national tv.
Not surprisingly, there’s a white house petition:
Selective enforcement is the ability that executors of the law (such as police officers or administrative agencies, in some cases) have to arbitrarily select choice individuals as being outside of the law. The use of enforcement discretion in an arbitrary way is referred to as selective enforcement or selective prosecution.
Historically, selective enforcement is recognized as a sign of tyranny, and an abuse of power, because it violates rule of law, allowing men to apply justice only when they choose. Aside from this being inherently unjust, it almost inevitably must lead to favoritism and extortion, with those empowered to choose being able to help their friends, take bribes, and threaten those from they desire favors.
If he was a “white hispanic”, NBC would edit his TV record and make him a murder, like they did it to Zimmerman.
You have to put this into prospective....if you arrest |David Gregory, then NBC would think about re-locating their studio....to Maryland or Arlington. DC wouldn’t dare screw up on this....like they did with the Redskins.
where have you been this has been the rule as long as I can remember. Hate Crime is the one that just jumps to the top of the list.
And the mighty NBC wouldn't send anyone to bail me out, either.
Well, there's no such ladies' group that I attend, and my whole scenario is somewhat of a stretch for effect, but you get my drift. The long arm of the law only stretches out to grab our peon-istic necks, not the svelte, swan-like necks of the political and media aristocracy.
