There’s actually a growing number of FReeper Linux users. I’m still just a novice myself. Glad it’s working out for you.

Been using ubuntu for quite a few years now, NEVER have ANY PROBLEMS, and as always everything just works, unlike winblows, in fact I just returned a Brand New Laptop because even with secure boot disabled in bios I could not install Linux or downgrade to Win7. I Bought the Last Laptop at Frys with win7 and loaded Ubuntu 12.04, life is good as long as you don’t have to look through windows. In a few short months you will never go back to winblows unless you have no choice, and then it will be sporadic at best. I use winblows for only 2 things, Quickbooks and UPS, getting ready to dump UPS and goto FedEx, wish I could do the same for quickbooks but there really is no equal in Linux.

If you get stuck on a machine with “Window” 8, it’s fairly simple to upgrade to Linux or Windows 7.

Once Window 8 is up, access the BIOS as follows:

Go to: Charms > Settings > Change PC Settings > General > Advanced Startup > Restart Now.
Then select: Troubleshoot > Advanced Options.
Scroll down, and select: UEFI Firmware Settings, and then select the “Restart.”

Once the system restarts, you will now have access to the BIOS. Depending on your machine, go to “Boot Mode”, which is probably set to “UEFI”, you need to change this to “Legacy BIOS”.

Make sure your Windows 7 or Linux CD is in the CD/DVD drive. (You may need to change the boot order to CD/DVD first.)

Now you’re ready to upgrade to either Windows 7 or Linux.

I still was unable to install Linux even with secure boot disabled..... And the laptop I bought had no option for legacy bios.

with zorin 6 you download to a disk as an ISO file then set boot menu to DVD/cd player...then re-start computer..It will give you an option to try the operating system “live” off the disc WITHOUT installing..

I actually never heard of zorin, but there are hundreds of flavors of Linux out there. Ubuntu does the same though, and 10.04 is pretty similar to windows so basic operation is the same. There is a definite learning curve when switching to linux though, command line scares a lot of people, but in the end you will never go back to Windows as your main operating system. you will run end up running windows in Virtual Box when necessary if at all.
