Sebastian and other Fudd "pragmatists" may continue to hide from this reality if they choose, but J.D. Longstreet understands this in his piece The Next American Civil War:

Look. There is so much pent-up anger in America today that if this argument over gun control ever gets beyond the talking stage it is reasonable to believe there will be violence on a scale not seen since the 1860’s in this country.

Strange but the same thing happened to me! My buddy who was with me at the time promised to mail the report to the police. Hope it gets there before they show up.

I’m getting older too. May have just laid them down somewhere or put them somewhere I’d remember but don’t. Like a hammer or something.

I understand where all of you using the “lost in a boat accident” argument are coming from. But I think you're missing the point, anybody can keep some contraband that the government declares illegal by hiding it and lying about it, heck millions of drug dealers do that every day, that doesn't take much courage at all. What we are talking about is throwing down the gauntlet, if this passes have several million gun owners say “Here is my name, here is my address, I own assault weapons and have no intention of registering them or turning them voluntarily. Now you can come and try to arrest me or take them, but there are X number of gun owners in my area that have sworn to defend me at gunpoint if necessary as I have sworn to defend them” “Balls in your court feds...”

I agree. However, we also have a body of laws that are self evident. So far this govt and others had decided those very laws don’t apply to them. That is, they are a law unto themselves. They’ve broken the contract we have with them. Those laws clearly define what authority the govt has and hasn’t. For some long time they’ve assumed powers and authority not theirs. So, it’s not as simplistic as your post might imply.
