Obamacare Layoffs, Hiring Freezes Begin
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | January 5, 2013 | Wynton Hall

Obamacare opponents warned that forcing companies employing 50 or more full-time workers to buy healthcare would prompt employers to slash jobs and worker hours. And that’s exactly what’s happening, says one of President Barack Obama’s favorite economists, Mark Zandi of Moody’s Analytics.

“It will have a negative impact on job creation” this year, says Mr. Zandi.

The Obamacare employer mandate doesn’t go into effect until January 1, 2014, but the government requires businesses to track worker schedules for three to 12 months in advance. That means many employers plan to get a jump start on avoiding Obamacare’s $2,000 per-worker fine by firing workers now, reducing employee hours, or replacing full-time employees with part-time workers.

A survey by the International Franchise Association finds that 31% of franchisees say they plan to cut staff to duck under Obamacare’s 50-employer mandate. And another study by Mercer consulting firm found that half of businesses who don’t presently offer health insurance plan to reduce employee hours to avert triggering Obamacare’s penalties.

As Breitbart News has reported, Pennsylvania Community College of Allegheny County has already slashed the hours of 400 adjunct instructors, support staff, and part-time teachers to sidestep the Obamacare fines. Doing so will save the already cash-strapped college an estimated $6 million.

Other Obamacare provisions, like the medical devise excise tax, have forced Stryker medical supply to cut 1,170 positions, despite the fact that the founder of the company’s grandson was among Mr. Obama’s biggest campaign donors....

No problem, we'll just blame it on the Republicans. They won't argue the point and the voters will believe us.

My “company” just layed off a bunch last week. The main reasons were that our customers aren’t ordering as much because they are cutting costs because thier customers can’t afford Obamacare.

I think God I just got a new job that pays well, 9 month assignment but with a good chance of getting hired. It is in the mortgage/loan industry and I’ll do my best to get hired outright.

lets see...
> 60% of US economy is consumer driven
> 50% of US live paycheck to paycheck no savings at all
Smaller paychecks due to tax increases, smaller paychecks
due to reduced working hours.
We are seeing 2008 all over again

Obama voters are just idiots. If we allowed young children to vote, I doubt there would be much difference between voting preferences of a 9 year old boy and those of a 26 year old single “professional” woman.

I disagree.

Show a brief movie of an abortion and the 9 year old will know it is heinous crime and not a "constitutional right"

The 9 year old will know that taking guns from the law abiding will do nothing to stop criminals

The 9 year old will understand that taking 50% of his allowance money to give to his slacker brother to buy his vote is just plain bribery

Even Pravda called him a commie.

Impeach the kenyan or secession.

Ditto on thanks to God. I’ve done a contract gig at a manufacturing facility that paid fair. I went perm as of the 1st and was (pleasntly) stunned at what they offered me to stay.

I will hang on as long as I can. My base plan is to bank every other check starting out to rebuild savings.

Good thing the voters cannot add 2 and 2, see the consequences of their own votes, or we’d have a revolution.

No one will say anything, nothing will happen. Period. Get used to it. It’s the new order of things. The list of things that have gone wrong and ignored over the last four years is almost incalculable. Whether it’s a forged birth certificate, a moribund economy, or the deaths of American personnel in a foreign diplomatic establishment, it’s not getting any play time. We’re f****d. Totally and completely f****d.

Probably 95% of them voted for Obama. But I can't take much pleasure from that, because everyone is getting screwed, including my family and friends, and the whole economy is going to tank.

Good heavens, has no other college done this? This particular college's actions keep getting repeated time after time. Makes it seem all alone.

Let’s say you own “Bob’s Machine Shop” with 52 employees and 2 divisions—engineering, and manufacturing. Could you circumvent the law by starting a new company, “Bob’s Engineering”, then divide the company in two with the machinists staying with the original company and the engineers working for the “new” company?

You would now have two companies, each with fewer than the arbitrary 50 designated in the law.

As a public service I would like to remind these adjunct instructors that although their pay has been cut they will still be required by law to buy health insurance or pay the Federal penaltax.

If anyone wants to see how workers are treated in a liberal utopia, just talk to some adjunct instructors. McDonalds workers are probably paid more, and they don't require master's degrees or more.

Obamacare is going to implode.

The legislation calls for the poor to be assisted in affording health insurance through the exchanges. Thirty some-odd states have already indicated they’re not going there. This leaves the Feds to provide an exchange, the funds for which were not authorized in the legislation.

We have the House, the Fed exchange will not be funded, meaning the poor will squeal like stuck pigs if the mandate is implemented. This means the mandate cannot be implemented in a consequence-free manner for the Democrats.

The Supreme Court upheld the mandate, but took away the ability of the feds to coerce the states into complying by declaring that Medicaid could not be withheld from the states.

Without the mandate, insurance companies have what is known as “adverse selection”, in other words, they will have to astronomically raise prices. I don’t think people will put up with it. There will be a “cliff” soon, if Obama doesn’t kick the can down the road, or sit down and negotiate for the reforms Republicans have already suggested. If Obama is obstinate, and he may well be, he will kill the Democratic party.

A huge rift is coming, no, a train wreck, in my opinion, between Obama and his own party.
