It's nice to see a progressive admit that their old hero is a hypocrite:
Yesterday morning, the still shell shocked staff at Current TV was called to an all hands staff meeting at its San Francisco headquarters, which was teleconferenced to their offices in LA and NYC, to meet their new bosses.
That would be two of Al Jazeeras top guys: Ehab Al Shihabi, executive director of international operations, and Muftah AlSuwaidan, general manager of the London bureau.
Ominously missing was the creator of Current, the self proclaimed inventor of the Internet and savior of clean energy, Al Gore, although his partner, Joel Hyatt, stood proudly with the Al Jazeera honchos.
Of course Al didnt show up, said one high placed Current staffer. He has no credibility.
Hes supposed to be the face of clean energy and just sold [the channel] to very big oil, the emir of Qatar! Current never even took big oil advertisingand Al Gore, that bulls***ter sells to the emir?
The meeting, while not contentious, was, according to staffers who spoke on the condition of anonymity, miserable.
The mostly left-leaning groupsome still in denial werent buying what Al Jazeera was selling.
And what are they selling? Al Jazeeras image of are you ready? inform, inspire and entertain!
I'm sorry, I can't help it. These dummies fell for the crap ManBearPig shoveled at them years ago when most everyone knew he was full of crap and now they are a tad upset.
Oh wait a minute, I guess they aren't:
Though the deals been widely criticized on the right, most of my progressive friends have a more tolerant attitude towards the transaction: After what happened to him, in the recount of 2000, one friend remarked, Id forgive him almost anything.A politically active environmentalist, too, was taking the news in stride: I dont think the community is too upset, he said. My personal sense is he got a good deal.
Hypocrisy...thy name is progressive.

So how many of those employees have resigned or are they still working for big oil?
Not too upset to be sure ... they still want a paycheck.
I give it 24 hours before all the gays , tree huggers, and bicycle to work grooves are out in the streets and the Hamas/ Egyptian brotherhood labor pool is brought in !
TV by mainstream democrats / TV by Al Jazeera terrorist TV. No big difference.
The silver lining here is, Algore’s reputation as the climate change czar is gone. He’s now a greedy “consultant” to a Middle Eastern “BIG oil” state. Go Al! Gotta love those big bucks Bubba!
Glenn beck.. Big oil.. Beck.. Oil...
Boy their heads must have exploded with those choices.
Are we supposed to surmise that his employees are so stupid they didn’t know what a hypocrite he is (and always has been)?
i really question if algore is sleeping well at night ,with all those hundreds of millions of dirty oil money.
maybe he’s a pod person.
I’m still riled up at that toadie Bob Beckle telling Bill O’Reilly that Joel Hyatt is a ‘conservative’ businessman. No one fact checks them!
I was reading today that 7 of the 15 people who worked for Beck all the way back when he was on Headline News are working for him today.
They want a severance or a cut on the deal. They know algore is a blowhard.
On the left, at worst, you can only be is a Hip!-o-crite...your forgiven anything because your are an enlighten being...and just so damm cool!
Al “jazeera” Gore.
Thinking back... I can not think of any other “event” that is more hypocritical than this....
owlGore fundamentally changed this country by pushing his global warming bull chit.... Affected our lives in negative ways for generations to come....cost us billions of dollars...
Almost every aspect of our lives in some form or fashion is tied into some bull chit regulation or policy dealing with this nonsense....
owlGore in my book should be tried for treason but instead walks away with millions and is a complete sell out...
Gotta be kidding me. Hyatt is slimeball socialist howard metzenbaum's crooked psychopath son in law.
Joel Z. Hyatt (born Joel Hyatt Zylberberg; 1950) is a prominent businessman and former attorney and American politician of the Democratic party. He is the founder of Hyatt Legal Services, and was featured in the law firm’s television commercials speaking the slogan, “I’m Joel Hyatt and you have my word on it.” Hyatt is also the co-founder of Current TV.
Hyatt graduated from Dartmouth College and Yale Law School. He briefly practiced law as an associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.
Hyatt co-founded Hyatt Legal Services in 1977 as a low-cost legal service and later founded Hyatt Legal Plans, which became the country’s largest provider of employer-sponsored group legal services. Hyatt Legal Plans was acquired by MetLife in 1997.
Hyatt was a founding member of the U.S. Senate Democratic Leadership Circle and was a member of that group from 1981 to 1986. He was the Democratic National Committee’s assistant treasurer from 1981 to 1983.
He is the son-in-law of former U.S. Sen. Howard Metzenbaum and in 1994, when Metzenbaum decided to retire from the Senate, Hyatt ran to replace him. Hyatt won the Democratic nomination, but lost to then Ohio Lt. Gov. R. Michael DeWine in the general election.
Hyatt was appointed to the California Public Utilities Commission in June 1999, by Governor Gray Davis. He served six months of a six-year term, resigning in December 1999.
Hyatt served as National Finance Chair for the Democratic party in 2000, and is a business partner of former U.S. Vice President Al Gore In 2004, Hyatt and Gore purchased Newsworld International, a cable news channel, programmed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which aired news programming from around the world. On August 1, 2005, Gore and Hyatt relaunched the network as Current TV, a young adult-programmed news and information service which pioneered the concept of user generated content on cable TV.
Hyatt taught entrepreneurship at Stanford University Graduate School of Business from 1998 to 2003. He is a member of the board of trustees of Morehouse College and of The Brookings Institution. Hyatt was elected to the board of directors of Hewlett-Packard Company in May 2007.
In 1990, Hyatt Legal Services paid a $157,000 judgment for illegally firing an attorney in their Philadelphia offices, Clarence B. Cain, because of his AIDS diagnosis. This case became the basis for the 1993 Tom Hanks film Philadelphia.
I honestly don’t understand how anybody could be surprised by Al’s actions. The guy has been a hypocritical asshole as far back as I can remember. Al wants to force people to live with a lower standard of living so he could get rich off them and live like a king. He is real scumbag.
