Florida lawmakers are holding committee meetings in the state capital this week, preparing for the start of the legislative session on March 5th.
So far, just a handful of education-related bills have been filed in the Florida House of Representatives.
The big issue is complying with a federal court ruling that says Florida can not charge out-of-state tuition to the U.S.-born or U.S. citizen children of undocumented immigrants. Typically, out-of-state tuition is at least three times more expensive than in-state tuition.
HB 29 would grant any U.S. citizen who graduates from a Florida high school after attending for one year in-state tuition at Florida colleges and universities.
HB 17 would set stricter rules to qualify for in-state tuition. Students would have to attend a Florida high school for four consecutive years to qualify for the lower tuition. HB 11 also mandates dependents of undocumented immigrants who are U.S. citizens also qualify for in-state tuition, but would leave it to the State Board of Education to set the rules.
Schools with more low-income students would receive more funding if lawmakers approve HB 31. The bill was filed by three Republicans and a Democrat and creates a poverty-based school funding category.

What court ruling ?
No one appealed it !
Why hasn’t that idiot Pam Bondi appealed the ruling yet ?
They are not immigrants.
Are Americans not tired of being told they will soon be in the minority due to this insane illegal “immigration”?
The DemocRATS can’t wait to get the Mexican Nationals into all of our schools. To hell with American kids. They had their chance.
It is only a matter of time before we have 15-30 million newly minted RAT voters. There is no stopping this with the GOP on board.
The Republicans reelected Boehner as Speaker. If you ever had any doubt as to whether the cause of Republican ineffectualness was ability or desire, it clearly is desire.
The R/D Party IS THE PROBLEM. THEY MUST GO. They have institutionalized themselves as “the two party system” yet there is no such provision in our government.
The Republicans are in the way. The Democrats are organized subversion. The two are united. The two combined are domestic enemies who have seized the powers of government and turned it upon us.
Sorry folks, as the rules are written right now, though some want to change it, children born in the US are US citizens, and if they can show they are residents of Florida, for whatever length of time they require, by law they deserve in-state tuition, just like any other citizen.
Even if both parents are illegals, it doesn’t matter, again, the way the law is currently written. So don’t get riled up against those who enforce the law, demand a change to the law.
Because until the law is changed, they are playing by the rules.
This is a big red herring....and a push for Illegal Alien Amnesty
A court ruling last year from Dade County prohibited colleges from charging out-of-state tuition to US born students of Illegal Aliens...when the Illegal Alien parents refuse to provide adresses and proof of Florida residency (which is required by all Florida colleges from those who claim residency). Since the Illegal Alien parents refused to provide proof of Florida residency...the school had no choice but to charge out of state rates
There is no need to pass a bill to change anything. Make the Illegal Alien parent prove Florida residency...or charge out of state tuition.
Sounds like more push to grant DREAM ACT Amnesty to give all Illegal Aliens in state tuition....regardless of any status.
All of the State of Florida Universities have an overflow of applicants already. UF denied one of our children when they applied for early decision even though an older child had already graduated from there. The younger child had better SAT scores, had an equal gradepoint average to the other child which was high but with more AP classes. U.S. Citizens need to take priority. Illegals need to be returned to their Country and get in line like everyone else and wait their turn! This makes my blood BOIL!!!
