One of the biggest gun industry trade shows in America starts in Las Vegas on Tuesday, as President Obama considers proposals from Vice President Joseph Biden's task force on gun violence one month after the Newtown, Conn., school massacre.
The SHOT Show, which stands for Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade, runs from Jan. 15 to Jan. 18 and is operated by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a gun industry group that is based in Newtown.
The annual event is open only to members of the industry and not to the general public. It's being held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center for the sixth year in a row and features 1,600 exhibitors, according to the NSSF. Last year 60,000 people attended the show.
"This is where all the manufacturers meet with all the distributors and retailers," said Robert Templeton, president of the National Association of Arms Shows. Likely participants include small gun shop owners and major retailers like Cabela's (CAB) and Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS, Fortune 500), as well as weapons makers like Smith & Wesson Holding Co (SWHC) and Sturm, Ruger & Co (RGR).
The SHOT show is taking place at a politically contentious time for guns in America. Biden's gun violence task force is submitting 19 proposals to Obama, a member of Congress told CNN. They include an assault weapon ban, a cap on magazine capacity and more stringent background checks for gun buyers, and will be made public by the President on Wednesday.
On Monday, the New York State Senate approved a gun control package championed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat. The state Assembly is expected to vote Tuesday on the bill, which would strengthen New York's already strict gun laws...

I seriously doubt there will be a gun related mass attack incident at the Shot Show. Anyone wish to make a bet otherwise?
Yup. A super-duper massacre. This time there will be more actor-parents laughing before the cameras roll that their fictitious daughter “died”..
Obozo has “Plugs” Biden running the show. What kind of results do you expect?
Will Aaron Smith or CNN rail against Big Pharma
and it's psychoactive drugs used
by all the current mass murders ?
Will they also expose hollyweird
and the video game makers
for TRAINING mass murderers ??
The intersection of psychoactive drugs and
violent video games produce mass murderers !!
I pray there isn't but if there is such an idiot I'm gonna bet its the shortest mass shooting attempt in history.
I'd say 60 seconds max before there is massive armed response.
Maybe....since all of the guns there have had the firing pins removed. Essentially a gun-free zone...
At least that’s what they say on their website.
That may be the case for all displayed / promotion materials, but somehow I don’t think Concealed Carry is included in that statement.
Huge Gun Show at the AZ State Fair Grounds in Phoenix this weekend, 19-20 January. See’ya there.
The Pravda Media sickens me. There is more hysteria about guns than there ever was about the influence of Communists in the US trying to influence foreign policy and public opinion.
The Left is already trying to get blacklists of such meetings in "public" civic halls. Meanwhile Mary Manson can tear pages out of Christian Bibles while standing behind a pseudo Nazi podium and the Left cries censorship if you dare think it is inappropriate at civic owned theaters/arenas/stadiums.
A bucketload of celebrities, from the A&Es Duck Dynasty family through to NASCAR driver Jason White, will also be making an appearance this year. The show will also host legendary Vietnam War sniper Chuck Mawhinney, Medal of Honor recipient Jon Cavaiani, pro shooter Doug Koenig, country music singer Mark Wills and SEAL Team 3 sniper Chris Kyle.
