Mark Levin on Obama gun proposals: 'This is 1930s stuff'
Daily Caller ^ | January 16, 2013 | Jeff Poor

On Wednesday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” conservative talk show host Mark Levin said President Barack Obama’s executive actions to curb gun violence, which were announced during a Wednesday press event, are as “un-American” and “fascistic” as they are unhelpful.

“What do any of these 23 [executive actions] have to do with what happened in Newtown? I’ve studied all 23 of them now. They have absolutely nothing to do with the mass murder that took place in Connecticut — zero. And the president won’t be asked about it. I have gone through these. It’s a weird collection of proposals. First of all, we have Obama ordering himself to order certain members of his administration to do things they should have been doing anyway, like enforcing existing laws, talking to each other, making sure they are trained up and everything. Why does the president have to issue an executive order and call in his Cabinet and say that?"

They say that reference to fascism are taboo. But this has never worked in American history. Obama may indeed rue the day for thinking too much of his abilities as a president.

References to fascism are not taboo, no. Cliche, maybe, in the bad sense. They’ve gotten a bad reputation for inaccuracy, overstatement, and repetitiveness. I feel it is an apt term to describe our current system if government. Too bad people used it too often to refer to relatively benign things. Ruined it for the rest of us.

“Why does the president have to issue an executive order and call in his Cabinet and say that?”

It’s a complex thing. First, it absolves them of responsibility for prior events. Second, it gives more of a dictatorial control to the President, setting a precedent for him ‘directing’ exactly what they should and shouldn’t do.

The author hit the nail on the head, though, when he said that none of the EI EI EO’s had a thing to do with the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Neither did the recent ‘Sandy Bill’ that just passed.

Obama is mostly puff, pomp, and circumstance manipulation. However, about 50% of the people in the Nation, not necessarily citizens, go for this chicanery. Many of these same people will merrily celebrate the 4th of July not caring what the significance of the day is.

This was more mush from the wimp.

I'm thinking that his advisors told him that trying to EO sweeping changes would meet so much resistance that he better go a "gentler" route. It's still worrisome - dollars will get you donuts that the expanded background checks will evolve into a national registry with a lot of information to be used against the law-abiding Peoples and not hurting the criminals a whit. I'm also concerned about the item where if a gun is confiscated, law enforcement gets time to conduct a thorough background check before having to return the gun - what new and looser rules will allow arbitrary confiscation of weapons? If you have several, and one is used in self defenses, will they try to confiscate them all "just to be safe"? I'll bet it will be twisted so if a weapon gets confiscated for any reason, getting it back will be the exception rather than the rule.

Just because what came out seems tame compared to what we thought it might be doesn't mean there isn't a lot of future poison coming our way.
