References to fascism are not taboo, no. Cliche, maybe, in the bad sense. They’ve gotten a bad reputation for inaccuracy, overstatement, and repetitiveness. I feel it is an apt term to describe our current system if government. Too bad people used it too often to refer to relatively benign things. Ruined it for the rest of us.

It’s a complex thing. First, it absolves them of responsibility for prior events. Second, it gives more of a dictatorial control to the President, setting a precedent for him ‘directing’ exactly what they should and shouldn’t do.

Obama is mostly puff, pomp, and circumstance manipulation. However, about 50% of the people in the Nation,not necessarily citizens, go for this chicanery. Many of these same people will merrily celebrate the 4th of July not caring what the significance of the day is.
