Will Obama ban fast cars someday?

If a young male decided to suicide by driving 100 mph down the  interstate highway the wrong way and deliberately crashing head on into a school bus, killing 20 elementary school students, would Barack Obama issue 23 executive orders on vehicle safety and speeding while calling on Congress to ban fast cars and governor new vehicles to 70 mph? I find this analogy very informative and strikingly similar to the Sandy Hook massacre. I suspect we know the answer to the question I posed. Cars and speeding wouldn't be the issue. If Obama and liberals focused on anything, it would be mentally disturbed and suicidal youth. The truth is Obama and liberals hate guns because they help insure American's freedom from tyranny. They never let a good crisis go to waste...

Note: An indecent similar to this happened in 1988 near Carrolton, KY. Larry Wayne Mahoney crashed head on into a church bus while driving down the interstate highway in the wrong direction at a very high rate of speed. Twenty-seven, mostly young people, were killed. It was one of the most horrific vehicle accidents in American history. The accident wasn't intentional. Mahoney was intoxicated and received a sentence of 16 years in prison for his crime. There were strong calls for tougher laws on people's actions (drunk driving), but nobody suggested banning black Toyota pickup trucks.

I am sure that he would ban ALL cars if he could and force the population onto buses, trains and bicycles. Democrat Party royalty would, of course, be exempt.

There is an astounding amount of crap mandated on cars now.

Cars cost several thousand dollars more as a result.

would Barack Obama ... governor new vehicles to 70 mph?

No, he would move to resurrect the Carter-era National 55 mph speed limit, and have all cars governed to that speed.

Who needs a car that can travel 70 mph?

If you really want to save children’s lives, ban bathtubs.

They hate guns in the hands of honest, non-violent citizens more than they hate cars.

Cars will be their target too if they are given a chance.

When the proto-Obama was in office (Jimmy Carter), his head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Joan Claybrook wanted to make a regulation requiring any vehicle that was being driven over 10 mph faster than the speed limit to automatically start flashing its lights and honking its horn.

“Will Obama ban fast cars someday?”

No.

The transportation plan is to drive energy prices to the point no one will be able to afford to drive a vehicle anywhere.

Even your John Deere Lawnmower will be as good as “banned” once his energy plans are implemented.

You are far more optimistic than I if you think they will still allow us to travel on buses, trains and bicycles...

But, I’m extra cynical in the early morning hours.

Let's start a petition for Obama to ban cancer. He can use his Obamacare to do it.

They already ARE effectively outlawing fast cars by slowly increasing arbitrary mpg requirements until only go-carts will meet them.

“Be careful what you suggest.”

Exactly. With a 52+ MPG standard in 2025, they’ve already done what you fear.

"If it saves one life, it's worth it" - Barack Obama.

So following his logic, yes, he will.

Many high end fast cars do have electronic limitations on their speed/rpm’s owing to warranty issues. I believe it will eventually come to the point that you will drive past a post on the highway, which will electronically read your car’s on board computer, and it will list any times you went above a certain speed limit, and will inform on you. The technology already exists and is used by certain rental car companies, who check your speeds when you return their car. I believe I read that the Ace car rental company does this, and there is a fine built into the rental contract for each time you exceed 80 mph. As I understand it, they use a type of on-star communications equipment and automatically deduct the fine amount from your credit card. So you could go on a trip, and exceed 80 mph, many times, before you realized what you were doing, and your credit card will be maxxed before you know why.

If the 0 administration was really concerned about human life, it would seek to ban the motorcycle instead of the assault rifle.

In 2011, over 4500 people died while riding a motorcycle. No one “needs” a motorcycle, any more than anyone “needs” an AR-15.

(I hope I don’t have to say that I personally don’t favor banning either...)
