NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo pushes bill allowing abortions after 24 weeks
The Examiner ^ | January 20, 2013 | Howard Portnoy

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo made headlines last week by cramming a gun law through the state legislature that is so restrictive that it limits the amount of ammunition members of law enforcement can carry on the job. Clearly, though, New Yorkers ain’t seen nothing yet. Cuomo’s next act, addressed in a news conference on Saturday – pushing through the 6-year-old Reproductive Health Care bill – if accomplished, will represent the biggest assault on the liberties of residents conceivably in the Empire State’s 236-year history.

The National Catholic Register (h/t Weasel Zippers) notes that the bill has become a facet of the governor’s own “10-point ‘women’s equality’ agenda, which includes a raise in the minimum wage, tougher anti-housing discrimination laws and measures against domestic violence and sex-trafficking.”

The most stunning part of the legislation, however, is its removal of criminal penalties for abortions after 24 weeks by adding a broad health exception. Currently, late-term abortions are allowable when carrying the fetus to term poses a danger to the mother’s life.

The article quotes Chris Slattery, director of the pro-life Expectant Mother Care (EMC) pregnancy centers in New York City, who says, the new law will make the city the late-term abortion capital of the world...

Thanks to advances in medical science, a baby born at 24 weeks has a higher chance of survival than ever before. The Life of a Baby Born at 24 Weeks

Twenty-four weeks puts your baby close to the end of your second trimester. By now, all your baby's organs are intact, and, basically, this time is being used for critical stages in development. Organs such as the brain are growing, the lungs are still developing, and there are many vital processes taking place regarding the maturity of your infant's body. Hence, when a baby is born at 24 weeks gestation, it is a huge cause for alarm. Most babies at this point barely weigh one and a half pounds. In this case, when a mother goes into preterm labor at this point in the second trimester, if the infant survives the birthing process (very often a cesarean is required at this gestational stage), he or she will be shipped off to the neonatal unit immediately. A baby born at 24 weeks will require a respirator immediately, as the lungs are not yet equipped to handle breathing outside the womb.

You can also expect surgeries due to insufficiently developed organs causing problems in your baby's body. Your infant will likely spend months under neonatal supervision, and it is possible that certain long-term health problems will arise due to this preterm labor. However, these health issues are not necessarily a given. Some babies born prematurely survive the process after a long NICU stay and emerge healthy overall, but it is normal to expect that the infant to toddler years may involve more concern and care.

Not only is he living with a woman — not his wife — he’s openly pushing abortion. Does he still call himself Catholic? Cardinal Dolan needs to call him in for a little talk. And we thought the last two governors who openly used hhookers were bad! Sheesh!

Unbelievable.

So much for “if it saves the life of one child”, eh, leftists?

You forgot that he shoved same-sex marriage down our throats. And yes, he calls himself a catholic. Dolan needs to grow a pair. He was married to a Kennedy so he learned how to manipulate the church to get away with what he wants.

Then why don’t they start by all the Gaia worshipers committing suicide—just to save the planet, of course.

Today’s Gospel was about the Wedding at Cana and Jesus’ first miracle. We don’t know the names of the happy couple, but I’ll bet they weren’t Joe and John!

The democrats are truly drunk on their power and why shouldn’t they be? There is no one stopping them. No one in any position will say a word about any of it.

This was what Mitt Romney ran on, and the libertarian position is much worse, than this.

CBS News interview, August 27, 2012:
PELLEY: Well, the platform as written at this convention for the Republicans does not allow for exceptions on abortion with regard to the health of the mother or rape or incest. Is that where you are?

ROMNEY: No. My position has been clear throughout this campaign. I’m in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother.

There is nothing to wait for, the republicans just ran on this abortion position 10 weeks ago, and the GOP not only nominated this pro-abortion position, but it is embracing and adopting libertarian leftist views on these issues, and is still at war against pro-life conservatives.

Post 33 will be the most relevant post on this thread.

Ban guns that cha ho;d more than 7 rounds but allow the murder of babies viable outside the womb. Screwtape is writing a letter home about this.

Yes, and I’m sure Wormwood is listening.

If I'm not mistaken, Romney clarified his Statement to Rape, Incest and the Life of the Mother. He said he misspoke about the Mother's Health, (which would include anything from Headaches to Hemorrhoids).

Of course this whole exercise is futile. The die is cast and a majority of our fellow Citizens (and a whole bunch of Illegals) think Obama is the future of America.

All this crap happening and Obama has a 50% Approval Rating? We are doomed. Stupid has won the day.

I never saw Romney retracting that very deliberate statement as he was rejecting the republican pro-life party platform, when he was asked straight out if he supported it, he said no, and then stated his personal pro-abortion position that you just read, but I did learn a couple of days ago that he was running pro-choice TV ads in Ohio.

As I said, it doesn't matter anymore.

The Ship has sailed.

The Fat Lady has sung.

It's water under the Bridge.

It's all over but the crying.

The Rats will easily get the House back in 2014 and that will be that. The Nation is splintered beyond repair. Not sure if we'll end up in a shooting War, but there will be Martyrs defending pockets of resistance at some point, of that I have no doubt.

As soon as possible, which will be a while due to current Family commitments, I will end up moving to whatever Red State still exists and live out the rest of my years thinking back on times past.

Democrats, Liberals, Progressives or whatever you call them have won the Battle and will win the War once Obama and his Minions takeover the whole Enchilada in 2014, especially since they will have the SCOTUS in their control for generations to come.

Good luck with the Romney blame game. He wasn't Reagan, but he isn't an enemy of Free People like Obama is.

You mean that it is over, that the GOP has renounced Mitt Romney and future pro-choice candidates, and admitted that they are destroying the party, and that they have embraced the tea party and Governor Palin and the social conservative base, and that the election of 10 weeks ago is something that has not chance at all of being repeated in any near future?

This is the level of our resistance? You think the Romney wing has given up?

Oh well... that whole pro-choice Romney selection for the GOP nominee thing was so, 10 weeks ago.
