Having ridden on the Madrid subways, I am amazed that the train could stop so quickly. They move at high speeds and approaches to stations are often steep curves.

Actually, there was a story just like this a few years ago on the NYC subway, except that the rescuer was just an ordinary subway rider, not LEO.

the policeman went on to his scheduled class (he's trying to get a promotion). I expect he will. He's surely shown his worth.
If a private company set up a subway the way governments do, they would be roundly and justifiably excoriated for allowing the public so near hazardous conditions.
