... To be clear, our family has differing views on gun rights and gun control. What we do agree on is that those who wish to score political points should not use a confused, misguided, 15-year old boy to make their case.
We ask those in the media and those who would use the media to make their political case, to not use Nehemiah as a pawn for ratings or to score political points. He is a troubled young man who made a terrible decision that will haunt him and his family forever. ...
These are the words of New Mexico State Senator Eric Griego, speaking on behalf of his family. The senator's nephew, Nehemiah Griego, "is accused of killing his parents Greg and Sarah Griego, along with 9-year-old Zephania, 5-year-old Jael and 2-year-old Angelina. The weapons used in the killings a .22 rifle and an AR-15 rifle - belonged to his parents and were in the home legally... ." Despite the horrific nature of Nehemiah's crime, despite the fact that the murders occurred just days ago, and despite the fact that an inaccurately labelled "assault rifle" was used, Senator Griego refuses to take up the panicked and simple-minded cause of "gun control."
Guns don't jump into people's hands. Guns don't have the power to control people's minds. Gun control has no effect on reducing crime. For example, "the homicide rate in England and Wales has averaged 52% higher since the outset of the 1968 gun control law and 15% higher since the outset of the 1997 handgun ban." Disarming citizens, forcing gun owners to get finger-printed and/or be put on lists, and banning semi-automatic weapons won't do anything to stop violent crime. The crazies and thugs of our society will never register their guns nor will they be deprived from obtaining guns as they will just continue to get their weapons on the black market.
Those who advocate "gun control" are: 1) looking for quick fixes to complex problems, and/or 2) trying to seize/maintain political power by disarming good citizens. TAKE ACTION NOW TO PROTECT GUN RIGHTS.
Only a total idiot would think gun control is the answer when a 15 year old kills his parents and siblings. At this rate, they’ll always be massacres. The commie ‘RATS are going after the wrong target. As usual.
Exactly. The rats want to disarm good citizens not to protect them, but to control them. Our Founders knew that citizens must have a fighting chance against a super-well-armed govt. “Assault weapons” are nothing of the sort. They’re just semi-autos - one trigger pull shoots one bullet. The Mexican cartels now infiltrating the U.S. have automatic machine guns.
It is not about guns. It’s about control.
Very principled people.
A man who no doubt, is crushed by the weight of a family tragedy, and yet maintains clarity of vision and rigid adherence to his ideals.
This ladies and gentlemen is leadership. When I read this, I could not help but think of Kipling's poem, If.
We’ll never see this in the leftstream obamedia.
We’re not getting through to them. Order up a few more shootings!
If you do go to the link, there is comment section at the end of the statement. I left a comment and I think others should as well to support the family and thank the senator for having the intelligence and guts to make the statement. Bless his extended family and prayers for the deceased.
Someone will change their mind. You can take that to the bank!
Full statement from Senator Griego:
“Our family is heartbroken over this senseless tragedy. We have not been able to comprehend what led to this incredibly sad situation. However, we are deeply concerned about the portrayal in some media of Nehemiah as some kind of a monster.
It is clear to those of us who know and love him that something went terribly wrong. Whether it was a mental breakdown or some deeper undiagnosed psychological issue, we cant be sure yet. What we do know is that none of us, even in our wildest nightmare, could have imagined that he could do something like this.
There is so much more to the Nehemiah we know than what the media is portraying. We know him as a bright, curious, and incredibly talented young man. He was a brother, nephew, grandson, and cousin.
From the time he was a young boy, his father Greg supported his love for music. Thanks to his interest, practice and natural ability, Nehemiah has become a very accomplished musician. He plays guitar, drums and bass. For years he has played at youth and other church services at Calvary and elsewhere.
The idea that he was a loner also has been manufactured by the media and those who simply did not know him. He had many friends at Calvary where he spent most of his free time playing basketball or music . Like his father, who was a champion wrestler and coach, Nehemiah also competed in wrestling tournaments throughout the state and country.
His parents were always involved at Calvary, and Nehemiah shared their commitment to community service. He accompanied his father on missions to Mexico, where they helped local faith communities. He helped with Calvarys youth ministry and played his guitar or drums whenever someone needed him, including his aunts wedding. At home, he helped care for his younger siblings and the many animals the family kept.
Like his great grandfather, grandfather, father, and several aunts, uncles and cousins who are either veterans or on active duty, he wanted to serve his country. Because of this long family tradition of military service, he wanted to enlist when he was old enough. He dreamed of attending NMMI and talked of studying engineering or history. The pictures of him being circulated in his dads old fatigues were part of his interest in someday being a soldier.
Five lives have been senselessly and needlessly ended. Ruining one more without trying to get to the bottom of what really happened and more importantly —why - -would be equally tragic.”
Yes, it always has been. Our self appointed masters do not want to see the peasants armed.
An interesting wrinkle is that now it has been announced that the only weapons brought into the school were 4 handguns. There was no AR-15 used at all.
The long gun found in the car truck was supposedly an AR-15 but on the video from a news helicopter it sure looked more like a shotgun.
Ronald Reagan refused to let his shooting be used as propaganda by the gun grabbers.
And if my son got killed by a Chevy I would ban GM cars?
