Now that Obama has secured another four years in the White House, it is time for the administration to crank out more Obamacare propaganda, specifically arguments about the cost ineffectiveness of keeping old people alive.
Enter the internets liberal bellwether, Salon.com. Earlier today, the website posted an article by Matthew Yglesias, a blogger and Democrat operative who spent time at the Soros project, ThinkProgress.
According to Yglesias, old folks are the key issue in the federal budget and their welfare accounts for the remarkable lack of apparent cost effectiveness of the American health care system.
When the patient is already over 80, the simple fact of the matter is that no amount of treatment is going to work miracles in terms of life expectancy or quality of life, he writes.
Yglesias offers a chart to make his point.

Indeed, the chart reaches its steepest incline between the ages of 80 and 90. For the actuarial minded, however, the problem begins with those who have crossed the 60-year-old threshold.
In other words, following Mr. Yglesias logic, if the government is going to address the remarkable lack of apparent cost effectiveness of the American health care system, steps need to be taken to reduce cost at the lower end of the curve.
We can now expect more and more Democrats to talk about what was heretofore unmentionable death panels. Yglesias, in fact, uses the phrase in his headline...

Yglesias: “Kill your parents, and give my illegal friends the money!”
If they have no problem killing babies, they have no problem killing the elderly. That is the quickest way for them to solve their entitlement problem.
Seriously? Who cares what the nut jobs over there say/think/post?
Dingbat is loose with the technical. Steepest incline looks between 68-78.
My buddy is in his 80s and just got a spinal cord fix. He is shooting 80s at golf and enjoying life.
Liberals are murderers.
She usually is...
.
Ok, let’s start with the senile b@stards in Congress.
The author, Yglesias, is a very old 31-32 year old. He’s gonna regret the sh-t out of his writings in about 15 years. He’ll be an old fart by 50. Death panelled by 60.
And now his buddies from the 60s are in charge...
Come on man, not everyone with a spanish surname is an illegal alien. It’s crap like this that has us painted as racist idiots and we need to knock it off. Going after the man’s bullshit politics is one thing, but assuming he is an illegal is over the top.

My sister had the power to say "no more tests".
This is where your old people monies go....not to "care"...but to milk the system.
Actually it looks like the steepest incline is from 65 to 80.
Let’s start with George Soros. He’s over 80. Time for him to go.
Can’t wait for the idiot liberals to fall victim to their own carefully laid plans. He’ll awaits another idiot.
Can’t wait for the idiot liberals to fall victim to their own carefully laid plans. Hell awaits another idiot.
This is the same party that holds Margret Sanger up as a heroine.
So we can all have government healthcare—except for when we really need it!
One of the reasons congress excluded themselves. They plan on drawing the taxpayer fund pension as long as they can.
I translated his position as, “give my illegal friends the money.” I did not say that he is an illegal. But he is one of many liberal progressives who argue that we should give unlimited amnesty and free medical care to illegals.
Or, to mention another example, give in-state tuition rates to illegals from other countries, but not to American citizens from other states.
Yet again.
This is literally a thank you Baby Boomers for voting for me, now drop dead.
Matthew Yglesias huh? Somebody needs to tell that boy. Running around talking about who he thinks needs to just die, is a good way to get his own lamp blowed out.
People are sometimes funny like that.
And i know it’s a shock, but some people over 80 are happy thay are alive.
This is gonna end in a war being forced upon us as the only alternative to death. They are determined to attack us on all fronts, and even discuss our death. They are sure we will knuckle under,, i don’t think we will.
Any member of a “ Death Panel” that decides any member of my family is to be “eliminated” had better be prepared to join them!
Cant wait for the idiot liberals to fall victim to their own carefully laid plans.
Old rich liberals are exempt, but once they achieve their goals the old poor liberals are no longer needed.
Unfortunately the vast majority of "blue staters" do.
Salon is one of the left's most influential thought leaders.
Implement it you fascists and we old people will be coming for you...you won’t survive it.
FUBO & FAD
I read somewhere that a country can be morally judged simply by the way it treats it’s very young and very old. Let’s see we murder millions of babies in the womb, and soon we will be like Britian who had a doctor report that they encourage the death of at least 130,000 elderly per year. I guess those who are calling for the death panels now don’t ever think that they will ever be old.

Good that he got it now because in a few years, he might not have that option.
I cringe at our future.
Of course. It was obvious from the start. I predicted they would let the old people die, refuse treatment to men with prostate cancer, and use the money instead for sex-”change” operations, AIDS treatments, and abortion.
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.

I see this same abuse with my parents-in-law who are both in their 80s. Their doctors have recommended every test imaginable for them. Finally, my father-in-law said, “no more”. They were driving an hour one-way for most appointments, depleting their minimal resources and tiring them out further...
One of my great aunts was in an auto accident (not her fault incidentally, she was a passenger) that broke her hip and pelvis. She was 82 at the time. Got both completely reworked and lived, independently, until she was 97. Gardened in her own backyard and grew veggies for all her neighbors, cooked meals for ‘shut ins’ in her church that a neighbor delivered. Crocheted my kids baby blankets. Should we have just let her die with the pain pills at 82?
My own grandfather had kidney failure at 78. Six months of dialysis and his kidneys started working again. He lived, independently, until he was 90. He also gardened extensively, split his own firewood and led bible study classes. Should we have just terminated him at 78 instead?
Not at all! I do not want them to die... The doctors put them through all these tests, though, and then tell them nothing can be done as the health conditions of their bodies could not withstand the surgeries... Just makes no sense to me, and I applaud my father-in-law for standing up to them.
The people you’re agreeing with re: healthcare for the elderly don’t make any such distinctions. They view *any* intervention as ‘unnecessary’ and ‘wasteful’. In the UK, NOBODY over the age of 60 receives dialysis unless they pay for it. Because the authorities have stated, forthrightly, that there isn’t any return on the investment in that procedure for people so close to retirement.
Once you view medical care in terms of the states ‘return on investment’ you’ve lost any humanitarian argument.
I am completely in favor of allowing anyone, especially the elderly, to *voluntarily* refuse medical care or tests if they so desire. Refusing to give granny a new hip because she’s over 65 isn’t voluntary. But it’s entirely in our future.
Hope your mom (and mine) has a ‘new hip’ nest egg set aside. In something other than FRN’s. She will probably need it. Along with plane fare to some more civilized country as I look for Ocare to completely outlaw private transactions of that sort. They’d rather get their 55% of grandma’s nestegg when she dies than let her spend it as she sees fit while she’s here.
Psalms 103:1 ¶ [[[A Psalm] of David.]] Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, [bless] his holy name.
103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
103:4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
103:5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good [things; so that] thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

The really stupid thing is that when people look at that graph they do not ask the questions that are screaming to be answered: Why are the costs of the aging in the USA so much higher than other countries? What are we doing that is different? What can we do differently so as to not need or be getting all of this medical attention? How much of it is pushed on us by the medical field that wants to soak up all the government money that it can? Why are they charging Americans so much more for the same drugs and health care than they are charging people of other countries? Are we eating things here that other nations do not eat, at least not nearly as much of as other nations, such as tons of highly processed foods full of chemical additives and low on actual nutrition? There are so many questions that need to be answered and they are not even being asked. It is so much easier to just kill old people than to do our homework and change what obviously needs changing. Never is there ever an excuse or reason for murder, but these people seem to love it.
Guess they don’t know about God’s Commandment:
“Honor thy Father and thy Mother.”
