David Mamet: Assault Weapons Ban an Appeal to the Ignorant
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | January 26, 2013 | AWR Hawkins

Writer and film director David Mamet has weighed in on the current gun control push, and what he sees as government overreach couched in an "assault weapons" ban that is actually "a political appeal to the ignorant."

Mamet describes it as a "hoax"– a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, because "assault weapons" are used in few crimes, and the very designation "assault weapon" is based on a gun's cosmetics--i.e., does it look menacing?

Going after such guns makes some people feel safer because they have slowly, and perhaps unknowingly, traded their independence for a "government knows best" mentality.

Think about Ronald Reagan's 10 most dangerous words in the English language--"Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Reagan saw these words as dangerous because they were indicative of an encroaching government that had taken unto itself the role of determining what was best for you and for me: a role for which our government simply was not designed.

Mamet sees the government doing this very thing with an "assault weapons" ban, in that he sees it determining what guns we can and can't own based on what has been determined that we do or don't need. And as Mamet so ably points out, government officials exercise Marxist principles when they limit our exercise of freedom based on what they think we need...

Try not to use the this is not an assault rifle argument, because I saw a pro gunner get his butt handed to him by a gun control person. The AR-15 is not an assault rifle was defeated with the gun control supporter showing copies of gun ads by gun dealers that market the AR-15 as an assault rifle. I always force soft gun control supporters to think about the times he/she lives in before they want to give up high capacity capable semi auto rifles. Many are aware that the US gov is piling debt on top of debt, and such a policy cannot go on forever before something starts to give. Stagnate economy with 47 percent on food stamps and etc. Local gov cutting back services including police. What happens if the system freezes up and the food stamp cards are frozen. Can we say SHTF? Other scenario, inflation starts to hit the US, and food stamps no longer cover all the needs of the ones on it. Can we say robbery, home invasion of upper middle class homes on the rise. The rich have doormen and gated security. The rest of us are on our own. Home invaders usually operate in groups and want to hit the home with the owner and family in it. That way hostages can be taken while husband must go to bank and withdraw money. Or worst family is tortured for ATM password, and all valuables that can be taken on the spot before family is killed. Home invaders like to hit upper middle class homes, especially those in rural suburbia like the ones in Newtowne. MacMansions in woods. The rich in CT will regret the day they chose to disarm down to single shot rifles and shotguns. One of my friends jokes, the whole family must form British square and discharge weapon by rank in order to produce volume of fire and have a chance to reload while other rank provides cover volley. Meantime the home invaders will have illegal semi auto pistols and hose the family in the process.

Try not to use the this is not an assault rifle argument

Like I've said a number of times, that's a loser right out of the gate. When are we going to stop being on the defensive responding to questions carefully framed in the tradition of "When did you stop abusing your wife?"

The right response is "Who the hell are you to tell me what I need or don't need? How about we go over to your house and I'll tell YOU what you don't need and take it off your hands, okay? " Or, like this guy said "This is just a political appeal to the ignorant." The chances of logically convincing someone who now thinks otherwise that 30 round mags and "assault rifles" should remain legal are zero.

When anyone asks why I NEED something they cannot understand I point out that Marx also was concerned with defining the needs of the people. When you are told what your needs are from a government, you are a slave. You only NEED to live in a cramped apartment sharing a bathroom and kitchen with another family, fed on gruel and a nice floor mat to sleep on and a bicycle to go to work.

Just google around to “free china” sites. Depending on if you stumble upon a ChiCom controlled site, or an anti-Chicom site, the woman is either a dissident, a drug dealer, or a murderer. I’m not sure about the date either, but all reports say this is a typical Chinese execution. The only thing different was that the woman in the white jacket would not submit to kneeling for an easy shot, but had to be restrained by the other two soldiers. This is how China executes thousands per year.
