Wait Until You Hear the Clever Way Private Gun Buyers Invaded a Gun Buyback Program in Seattle

The Seattle Police Department held its first gun buyback event since the 1990s this weekend, offering people gift cards for their firearms. However, dozens of private buyers showed up in an effort to acquire the guns using the so-called gun show loophole, which allows guns to be sold without a background check.

Hundreds of people showed up Saturday morning to give their rifles and shotguns as well as semi-automatic rifles to police in exchange for gift cards worth $100 and $200 respectively, KING 5 reports. The police planned to destroy the guns and use them as rebar in local construction projects.

Meanwhile, a number of private buyers set up a makeshift gun show-style event and offered cold hard cash for guns and even lured customers with donuts.

“I pay cash, I don’t give Amazon gift cards,” one dealer told a gun seller.

“It’s a historical firearm, I would hate to see it get destroyed. I’ll give you $100 cash for it,” another buyer offered a gun owner.

Many held up signs that let gun owners know they would pay cash for unwanted firearms...

I heard about this on the local AM radio news this evening. The cops aren’t happy about it and they are going to find a way to stop this.

I’m sure that some of the better guns for one reason or another is not going to end up as rebar but in some policeman’s closet.

The best gun show I have ever been to was in Washington state. The Washington Arms Collectors gun show. Of course this was in the 80’s. Gun shows have gone down hill since Clinton.

“The best gun show I have ever been to was in Washington state.”

Agreed. Spent my frosh year at UW and would drive around eastern washington where they had small gun fairs that the liberal Seattle PI and Slimes ignored.

“destroy the guns and use them as rebar in local construction projects”

I’m not a civil engineer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. I’m not going anywhere near these construction projects. That can’t be to code.

"Most people are here in the spirit of wanting to do something because of some of the tragedies that we’ve seen in our country and in our own city.”

Any gun that was brought to a gun-buyback program was likely already owned by someone who be the last person in the world to shoot someone. What good did that do? Trading an $800 dollar hunting rifle for a $100 dollar gift certificate is good for who?

The liberals in Seattle are livid that their sanctimonious gun buy back event turned into a gun show event. You should have heard them howl on the news radio programs. They are vowing to have Olympia make new laws preventing private party gun sales. We will see if they can pass such a law and have it meet the strict requirements of Washington State's Constitution.

Currently, there is no paperwork or registration requirement under WA State law regarding sale of firearms between private parties. RCW 9.41.080, does make it a felony to deliver a firearm to someone you have “reasonable cause” to believe is ineligible to possess it. They are using the Stinger type rocket launcher as the cause célèbre to use as an example of the danger such private sales posses for the safety of the community. Notice, they use the safety argument.

It is the honest citizen who would be most likely to be concerned for the safety of his fellow citizen. These are the same citizens who were bringing their weapons over to Seattle's gun buy back event. Some had weapons that were worth only a quarter of the money they would get from their $100 Amazon gift certificate. An extra $100 would help buy the wife a Kindle Paperwhite. These are the same citizens who would get CPR training just in case their fellow human needed emergency life's support. Seattle prides itself for having so many CPR certified people in the population. In my opinion, having a Concealed Carry and having a CPR training certification are functionally the same thing. In the case of having a gun available for an emergency situation, the use of a gun is for a life's saving situation. This is the use of a gun to save the life of an innocent person (which may be your own life) from the murderous criminal. This is the citizen dealing with an emergency situation until the police get there. Likewise, a person falls down from a heart attack. This is an emergency situation of a medical kind. Until the Emergency Medical Technicians arrive, you perform CPR. An medical attack is like an attack from a murderous criminal: both can bring an end to life. With one, you rescue with a gun. With the other you rescue with CPR. With both, we should encourage as many of such rescuers available as possible.

"...The liberals in Seattle are livid that their sanctimonious gun buy back event turned into a gun show event..."

We can't use the word sanctimonious often enough!

I did not stay at a Holiday In either but I am a mechanical engineering tech. with a lot of metals training. The vast majority of construction rebar is made from recycled auto bodies. Recycled steel from guns would be much higher quality.

Lol. After reading some other stories, I found that the guns would be recycled into rebar. This one made it sound like the guns themselves would be embedded in the concrete. Thanks for lending your expertise to the discussion. (Free of charge, I presume?)

Participating in a gun buy back is like having yourself castrated because you believe that the neighbors have too many kids.
